Near-death experiences happened to Daniel almost every couple of months. He almost died in a car crash when he was 7 years old. He almost drowned in a river when he was 13. Now he has brought his best friend Sammi into his life of near-death experiences. He tried writing a letter to apologize, but they always returned unopened and having a big red X on them. He wrote:
Dear Sammi,
I am sorry for dragging you into my problems. I tried to keep you from my horrifying life. I almost got you killed when I picked a fight with that bully. There is nothing I can do to make things right and go back and fix what happened. You ended up in the hospital because of me with a broken leg, broken ribs, and a punctured lung. I will be moving away next month and you will never see me again. I am leaving so I won’t bring you any more trouble. Please don’t think about coming after me because this is for the best. For both of us. During the years that we have been friends, I have kept a secret from you and here it is I have liked you for 5 years and I know there is no way we can be together. Goodbye.
Your Friend,
Daniel Prairie
You may be thinking he was crazy to leave but it was the best decision he made with his mother in his life. He may have left the one he loved behind, but did it to protect them. Daniel rode in his mother’s car looking out the window as they went to California. His mom pulled into a McDonald's parking lot. They got out of the car and went inside. As they walked in the salty smell of fresh french fries wafted through the air. He got a two cheeseburgers meal and Sprite to drink. His mother got a buttermilk crispy chicken meal and Fanta to drink. They sat down in the back. Daniel didn’t know it yet but he was about to be on his way to the hospital again. Daniel opened his eyes and found himself in a hospital room and his mom sleeping in a chair next to the window. A nurse walked into the room, saw him, and called for a doctor to come quickly.
He shouldn’t be up yet he had been in a coma for 3 weeks. It should have been 4 weeks or never, the doctor said. He walked up to Daniel’s mother and shook her awake. She opened her eyes. They went wide right away when she saw Daniel awake. She walked towards Daniel as tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I feared you would never wake up again!” she whimpered. The doctor took her back to the seat she had been sleeping in.
“Mom, what happened? Why am I here?” Daniel asked.
“You choked on the french fries you were eating because they were crispy and not soft like they should be. So that is why you are here,” she said. He lay on the hospital bed looking up at the ceiling in shock.
After a couple of days went by the doctor released Daniel from the hospital. Still having the dry and disgusting taste of hospital food in their mouths, they went to a Culver's nearby. They both got chicken tenders with ranch and french fries. As they went to find a table, Daniel grabbed some salt packets for the fries. Within 10 minutes their food came out and they went to get their drinks. After they ate all their food, they left for Oakland, California. They were on the road for 3 days and finally arrived at Daniel’s mother’s parent’s house. Their house was a mansion. It was white and had a big water fountain in the middle of the driveway. A butler opened the door and told them to come in. His grandparents came rushing to the door to see their grandson for the first time in 10 long years. They looked him up and down and then told them to have a seat in the living room.
“We have hired a bodyguard for you, Daniel. He will make sure you are safe and that whatever you eat is safe as well. He will protect you from any danger. You will start school tomorrow,” his grandmother said. His grandparents had one of their maids show him to his room to sleep. In the morning his clothes were laid at the front of the bed. Daniel took a shower, brushed his teeth and got dressed. He headed downstairs to the dining room for breakfast. From the dining room came the smell of maple syrup, pancakes, browned toast, crispy bacon, and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
“Good morning my son,” Daniels mother said.
“Good morning, Mom,” he said. He sat down next to his mother. He grabbed a little bit of everything and ate it. He was in breakfast heaven. As the cook came in with some danishes, a wet dog came running in the room and sent the cook flying and the danishes landed all over the floor and table. One of the danishes landed right on Daniel’s plate. He took a bite, and his mouth exploded with a tangy blueberry flavor.
“Sorry everybody, but I have a letter that I have to go write,” Daniel’s mom said.
“Ok, have fun Lia,” Daniel’s grandmother said. Lia went to her room and started writing a letter to Sammi:
Dear Sammi,
Hi, I am Lia, Daniel’s mom. I just wanted to let you know that we are at my parent's house in Oakland, California. He may have told you not to come to look for him but I know he loves you and I won’t let him tear himself down just so you can be happy and he ends up sad and alone. I know you like him as well. You two are great together and I have never seen a better two people more perfect for each other.
Sincerely,
Lia Prairie
Lia went back downstairs and nobody was to be found anywhere. She walked outside and found them all in the garden. The sweet smell of roses and daisies wafted through the air.
After a couple of days, there was a ring at the doorbell of the mansion. The butler answered the door and a girl was there. He took her to the living room where everyone was.
“Sammi!” Daniel said with the sound of surprise in his voice.
“Hi, Daniel. I know you told me not to look for you but you couldn’t do anything about what happened. I will never let you go. I love you,” Sammi said. As they were talking, a crashing sound came from the dining room. Everyone ran to the dining room to find everything smashed and thrown all over the place. A man ran into the kitchen, and they all followed him. They found the cook fighting with the intruder. Daniel pulled the intruder off the cook and punched him. He got a few good hits on him until the intruder drew out a knife. Daniel got stabbed in the leg, arm, and stomach. Daniel’s bodyguard came rushing into the kitchen and stopped the intruder while Sammi called an ambulance. The paramedics came rushing in with a doctor. They took him to a guest room and did the surgery in the mansion. Sammi cried by his bedside as he lay there asleep. Sammi feared that he was gone for good until he woke up one day and went downstairs.
“How many times are you going to scare me? No more! I won’t let you go so try not to get yourself killed anymore,” Sammi said.
After that day all the near-death experiences stopped and Sammi and Daniel started dating. After three years of dating, they got married. Sammi wore a long white dress with beads sewn on all over it. The dress looked like snow. Daniel wore a black tux and it made him look like a real prince. They had two little girls after some years and they looked as beautiful as their mother with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Daniel feared that one of them would eventually experience near-death experiences. Happily, neither of the girls experienced anything close to any near-death experiences.
