In a fantasy world of ancient China, where magic and kung fu exist, there is a love story between the heavenly prince and a lotus nymph. This love story takes place with a mistake, but will it end a mistake? To answer that question, we must go back to the beginning, before the mistake.
There is a cottage in the middle of nowhere with a pond in front of it. In this pond, where nothing can survive in its murky waters, a lotus blooms beautifully. Many passersby call this flower the eternal lotus because it never wilts, even in the winter. The caretaker of this lotus and the inhabitant of the cottage is a young human man, an orphan. The kind young human man cares for this lotus deeply, for it is the only thing he can talk to. The man lives alone and far away from others, so the lotus was his only friend. Sometimes he questions if he is crazy for talking to a lotus, but little did he know that the lotus was not just a flower; it is a nymph. After years under the man's love and care, the nymph grew to love the man. She eventually managed to transform into her human form every full moon. On those full moon, she would weave lotus silk for the man. When he wakes up, there would be a fine piece of lotus silk on his table. The man had no idea who left the silk there, but he was grateful. This continued for many years until the young man was well into his forties.
During this time, the heavenly prince was overlooking the human world. When he saw the lotus nymph weave at night, he would be mesmerized by her beauty and kindness. His love for her grew as the amount of silk she weaves increases. Eventually, the heavenly prince could not stand the distance between them anymore, so he begged his father to allow her to ascend heaven, for she is a kind being. The heavenly emperor agreed to his son's request. When the lotus nymph ascends to heaven, the silk stopped appearing on the human man's table. As such, the man took the silk that he has saved over the years and sold them. They were rare silk that sold for a large sum of money. With the money he received from the silk, he built a school in a small village to help less fortunate kids receive a proper education.
The lotus nymph was granted the name Lianhua when she ascended to heaven, and her assigned job was to work alongside other flower nymphs to grant the wishes of deceased heroes. There are rules that these nymphs must follow, for some wishes cannot be granted. However, emotions can blind people's judgment, and some mistakes may be made for love. The love story of Lianhua and Cheng Ying will have many obstacles and whether these two can survive the hardship and fall in love depends on if they can understand each other's sacrifices.
"Welcome to our wishing temple, hero Zhen. I am Lianhua. We flower nymphs must follow the rules, so any wish that deals with extending or shortening one's predestined life span are impossible. We cannot resurrect the dead, so there is no way for us to revive you. Lastly, we cannot force people to fall in love," Lianhua explained with a kind and sweet smile.
She has gotten used to working as a wish granter in heaven, but there are moments when she would think of the human man who took care of her.
"I have been at war all my life, and seeing the lives that are taken by human desires and greed makes me believe that gods do not exist. Now that I am here, I realize my mistake. My only wish is to have peace for my country so that my son may not have his life ended as early as mine. As a general of the Zhou country, I must live and die for my country, but my son is innocent. He has a future ahead of him. I want him to live in a peaceful world and enjoy life."
"I understand your feelings, hero Zhen. Please allow me a moment to check your son's predestined life span. I will grant your wish if it does not mess with another person's predestined life span," Lianhua responded gently.
A predestined life span is the number of years a person can live for. However, they can die earlier or later, depending on external forces. For example, a god may extend or shorten another person's life span, but this has never been done before. Another possible factor that may shorten one's predestined life span is their doom flags. Everyone has willpower, and this willpower will help them get past their doom flags. However, if they give up, they may die earlier. People who die from their predestined life span will die peacefully in their sleep. In contrast, those who die due to their doom flags will die painfully while they are conscious.
"As stated here by your son's life thread, he may live to 60 years old if he has the willpower to pass all of the doom flags in his life. Your son will indeed face a major doom flag in his thirties that has a very high chance of killing him. If his willpower is not strong enough, he may die at the age of 34 in war. "
"Please, Miss Lianhua, save my son. He is already 10 years old. I cannot let him die so early. Is there a way for you to increase his willpower?"
"Is your wish for your son to live a full life?" Lianhua asked softly.
"Yes," the man responded through his tears.
"I can increase his luck with god's blessing to help him surpass all of his doom flags. However, peace is something that I cannot do since gods have no control over the human mind and heart."
"Yes, please give him god's blessing. This lowly one thanks you" hero Zhen bowed, but before he could go down all the way, Lianhua stopped him.
"Please do not worry, hero Zhen. This is my job. I will grant your wish, so please move onto your next life at ease."
After granting hero Zhen's wish, Lianhua left the wishing temple. She felt happy that she could help another person move on with no regret. On her way back to her room, Lianhua was occupied by her own thoughts of the human man who took care of her when she was a lotus. Not paying attention to the road, she slipped on a pebble and fell back. Before her body falls to the ground, someone caught her. His arms wrapped around her waist to prevent her from falling.
"Beauty, you should pay attention to the road ahead. You wouldn't want to fall from heaven," he said with a wink.
Lianhua pulled herself up and out of his grasp.
"Lianhua greets your highness the dragon prince" she bowed.
"I told you that you don't have to be formal towards me. Look! I've brought you your favorite snack," he said with a big smile as he lifts a wooden box.
Lianhua looks at him with a sweet smile before responding, "Prince Cheng, is that dried mango?"
Cheng Ying nodded his head and stretched his arms out to give her the box. She gave him a warm smile and accepted his gift.
"Let's sit over there and enjoy it together," Lianhua suggested.
She pointed over to the tree on the other side of the bridge. The two walked over and sat under the tree. Cheng Ying opened the box to reveal a plate of dry mango slices. He picked up a slice and gave it to Lianhua.
"How was wish-granting today?" he asked as he picks up a slice for himself.
"It went smoothly. I granted general Zhen's wish today," she responded with joy in every word.
"Then are you done for today? I want to take you somewhere."
Lianhua stopped eating and looked at Cheng Ying.
"Where?" she asked.
"That is a secret for you to find out," he responded mischievously.
Lianhua playfully hits his shoulder and states, "you're always full of mischiefs."
"Ow!" Cheng Ying pretended to be hurt by her attack.
He rubbed his arm and joked, "If you break my arm, you'll have to take care of me."
"Alright, it's just taking care of you for a while" she played along with his joke.
"I would love to have a beauty by my side, tending to my injury," he said as he leans in close.
The two stared at each other for a split second before Lianhua pushes him away.
"Playboy," she mumbled under her breath.
"What? I am an honest man who will only love his soulmate," he declared.
"Whos your soulmate? Stop talking nonsense," Lianhua responded
She pushed herself off the ground and walked away.
"Hey! I'll meet you tonight at this tree! Don't stand me up! I have a surprise for you!" he stood up and shouted.
Cheng Ying smiled as he recalled the close distance between them just earlier.
"I'll take you star picking," he whispered to himself.
He bent down to pick up the box of dried mango and walked away. His smile was big and full of happiness, but how long can this smile last when a man from the past enters the picture? A mistake that can only be fixed at the place that this love started from, Earth.
