Once upon a time in a small village there lived an poor brahmin (peoples of highest caste in India)named Hari with his old mother in a cottage. They were poor therefore Hari went to different villages to beg for food daily, and his mother went to do house chores at rich people's house.

One day Hari visited a nearby village, he went door to door but wasn't able to collect food. After getting tired he went near the village pond and sat at the bank looking at the water. Then he got an idea, he said to himself,"I cant go home with empty stomach, then let's take this water as delicious foods and dig in'. Then he drank a palmful of water and said ," wow delicious curry... " , then he took drank another palm ful of water and said "' delicious pudding"... "warm rice" ... "sweet cakes" ... and so on .

He wasn't aware that all his movements were quietly observed by the goddess who lived in pond(jal devi). Jal devi pitied Hari , and thought about helping him a bit. Then she brought a earthen pot and put all the dishes inside whatever Hari was speaking about. Then she closed the pot and pushed it towards shore. Hari saw a pot coming towards him and picked it up. When he opened the pot to his surprise there were all those food he wanted to eat . He became happy and devoured the food and took some food for his old mother.He thanked the Jal devi and went home.

When he reached home his mother wasn't back from work so he hanged the pot and took a nap. Then at the evening his mother came back . When she opened the pot she was overjoyed and are those foods.

During the night Hari was sitting outside and looking at the stars . She came near him and asked him about the food.He told everything to her . Then his mother told him ," it's a perfect idea...even god is helping us...son we don't need to work anymore ... you just need to go and sit near the pond every day and repeat the same...we wont be poor anymore " . Hari thought it was an good idea to become rich...and he could ask for sweets and sell it for money...and become rich..."

Days passed and Hari did the same . The mother and son were rich now without working. One day Jal devi noticed it and thought to teach him a lesson. Because Hari became a greedy man. Then that day when Hari came near the pond and did the same... Jal devi brought the pot and packed different types of beatings inside it like slap,punch, kick,pinch etc. And send it towards the shore . As usual Hari took the pot. But when he opened it he was beaten up from nowhere . Now he realised his mistakes and apologised to the jal devi. Then he covered the pot and all the beatings stopped. Then he thought my mother gave me this idea. She was more greedier than me. She also needs a lesson. Then he took the covered pot to his home and hanged it at the usual place. At evening his mother came back from the work but when she opened the pot she got beaten badly . She closed the pot . She learnt her lesson and was sorry for her did.

From then on Hari never went to that pond.He became a hardworking man instead of a beggar and his mother again went to do the chores and they spent their days simply and happily.
