The Girl On The Tale

The King

The sun is setting. Four people are sitting on one of the benches of Central Plaza.

Sia is wearing a black robe and is reading a book on her right hand while playing with her hair. Omega, wearing her green robe, with her usual curious look, is peeking on Sia's book. Loise wearing his not too brown robe is sitting on the ground while piling up small rocks while Leroy wearing his dark red robe is laying on the other bench staring at the sky.

"Sia, the letters are dancing now. Ah my head aches." Omega sighed.

"Come on, O. Don't exaggerate. Shit! " Loise saiid when his piled stones suddenly fall. Omega rolled her eyeballs and released another sigh.

"Tell us a story." She said, addressing Sia. Sia closed her book and stopped playing with her hair. She sits straight and breath deeply.

"Long, long ago..." she started and stopped.

"Guess. A history? Again? We all know that." Loise said.

"Maybe not this time." Sia smiled before continuing.

"After the war, the protector vanished. The Valiance chose their own king to stand as their protector. And the King appointed his own rulers— the Stalwart, the Acumen, the Healer and the Fortifier. The Stalwart is known for their strength, the one responsible for protecting the outer border of the Land. The Acumen for their intelligence and reasoning are responsible in planning and strategy. The Healer for their healing. And the Fortifier for strengthening one's will. While the King stays at the Central, with his appointed willer of fire, air, earth and water. They serve as the heart of the Land. They protect the people.

"After years, they found out that they could no longer pass their will. The only way left to pass one's will is through giving birth. Inheritance. Another problem arose— there is a larger possibility of having one will rather than two. What's worse is that... there is also a possibility of inheriting none. That's why today, there are people who don't have any will. Most people say it's a curse. Some say it's not, but the guardian's decision as payment for starting a war. But the problem didn't end there. The throne must be passed from the appointed king to his child. Generation to generation. Until... One king, made a queen. But the Queen died. And she bore no child."

"You mean, the current King, right? He's been living for two hundred years now and he still looks like on his 40's. Ah I wonder why. What's the secret for immortality." Omega said while yawning.

"That's where the real curse comes in. No one proves this yet, but everyone believes that the curse is that... the King should have a child. The king must pass the throne. Or else he would n't age." Sia answered.

"Man, that's fun. I wonder if I don't have a child. Will I stay young as well?" Loise asked.

"More likely. But being immortal is a curse. It'll hunt you every night, every day. Time will come, and you will long to die. To rest. To stop. To be old. To age. You will forever carry the weights of protecting the people. And when you fail, you will forever be sad. Guilty. Of being unable to protect your people." She said almost whispering.

"The king..." Leroy uttered. Everyone looked at him with a questioning face.

"There's another story." Sia said.

"Aaaah let's save that for next time. It's almost dinner! Let's part ways!" Omega shouted before standing.

Everyone enters a white circular light and vanished with their thoughts of the king. The portal closes.

Central Kingdom

"Say, she's still practicing at this late hour?" the King asked, while staring at the girl who swings her sword backward and forward, dripping with sweat, not minding the numbness of her palm.

The man in azure blue robe, the father of the girl, can't feel anything but sympathy on his own child said, "She was born with nothing, Aloy. I don't know what i did in the past that the deity is—"

"You did well in the past, Theon. You did well in the past that the deity blessed you a Tena, who works the hardest among the people of this land." King Aloy said while tapping his cousin's shoulder and still staring at the girl named Tena.

Despite being a child of one of the legendary willers and the great healer of the land, Tena was born with no will. And so Tena, feeling desperate to prove that she is a daughter of the two known willers and royalties works every single day to practice her combat skills.

She said, "If I dont have a will, I must have the skills."

The King favors Tena a lot. Not because she is his cousin's daughter but because he can see Tena's eagerness to prove her abilities. She has the courage to fight, eventhough she has nothing, and to protect her loved ones.

The King smiled with his thought. And went near to Tena.

"Want to spar, Tena?" he asked. Tena bowed and smile.

The Central City is a city that never closes. when every light is off, the central city still has its lights on. This is where all the trades happen. It connects all the kingdoms in the land of Valiant. It has all the passages . A person couldn't go to any kingdom without passing on the Central City.

At the Central City are four elemental royalties roaming and looking for fun by trying everything that catches their eyes. Though the night is deep, they disguised themselves in grey hoods, afraid that people would recognize them.

The four elemental royalties are known as The Four Mischiefs of the Land of Valiant. Among all the royalties, they are the rule breakers and the most stubborn. They tend to offend other people yet still recognized for having the strongest will.

Leia of the air clan, has the strongest will to control the air. She always wears her steel blue robe and always raises her right eyebrow whenever she's amused. Wale of the water clan has the strongest will to control water and is not fond of wearing his deep sky blue robe but still wears it because he thinks it is the color of his kingdom. Ares of the earth clan has the strongest will to control earth, and loves designing her own sapphire robe. And the one wearing the ocean blue robe is the one who has the strongest will to control fire. He is believed to be the most powerful among the other mischiefs, since he has the most control of will.

These four have been causing a headache to the kingdom itself and the people of the city. They love playing tricks yet they lived up to their names of being the strongest.

"Say, Tena, why dont you make friends? There are other royalties around your age?" the King asked Tena.

"Royalties are powerful. They are dangerous. There's always a boundary between the weak and the powerful." She stated while focusing on the end of her arrow and her target. Today, the friendly game between the king and Tena is bow and arrow.

"What do you mean?" the king asked, confused.

"I'm weak. That's what I mean." She said and then released her arrow, before looking at the king. The king then positioned himself and started targeting.

"You are strong. You have no will but you are strong. I've seen how you grow. And how you work hard to have your skills. And Id say, even the Stalwart couldn't say anything against you." The king pinpointed.

Tena laughed. The King smiled.

"The entrance exam for Knight of Valiant will start next week," the King said, "I'm want to see you there."

Tena shrugged and said, "I'll try."

"That's an order, Tena." The king said before laughing.

Tena shook her head with disbelief of the King's tricky behavior.
