"Get away from here!" screamed the crying woman who layed down, almost lifeless.
A little girl, barely the age of 13, stood hopeless. The houses were burning down, falling down one by one while the raging fire began to spread faster and faster. The village of Yin was being burned down, covered in blood. The stench of blood lingered around every inch of the air. What was she suppose to do?
"Zixio! Run! Run away from here, Hurr-", the dying woman failed to finished her sentence as more and more blood flooded out.
With tears overfilling her deep blue eyes, she turned her back and ran. Her tears blurred her vision but she didn't dare stop. Her lungs stung and ached but her legs kept running. She faced the dark woods and adrenaline flushed out. She ran in.
Zixio didn't stop until she accidentally tripped on her ashed dress. Her foot stung from aggressively stomping on sharp tree branches and stones. She glanced behind her, only to see the darkness. The only source of light was the full moon gleaming on Zixio's silver and smooth hair.
Yin was a large village who respected the Tians, who are said to be the Goddess' favorite children. Their unique silver hair made them stand out and were said to bring prosperity and good fortune. Their beauty and talent made the neighbouring states envious, but they didn't dare offend the Tians for it is said they shall be punished. The people of Yin all had deep blue eyes, but only the Tians had silver hair. Zixio Tian, was the only daughter of the Tians and was beloved by all. Or so she had thought.
Who was trying to kill her? Why did they want her? Zixio was surrounded by the questions she wanted answers to. She missed her parents, her friends, and the people of Yin, who had sworn their loyalty to her. Her eyes closed, and her body became numb.
Zixio was awoken by the sound of galloping horses and yells of the soldiers. Instinctively, she hid behind a large tree and grabbed the mud which she covered her hair so she wouldn't get noticed. With her muddy hands, she covered her mouth to quiet her breathing.
"Search for that girl!" ordered a deep voice from one of the soldiers
Zixio guessed that he was the Commander since he was giving out the order
"If you do not find that girl, all of you shall be beheaded!" said the Commander
Zixio was frightened for her life, and layed low as possible. After couple of minutes later, the soldiers headed back. Zixio didn't know why, but she had an urge to follow them. With all her courage, she stood up and quietly followed them.
When she reached her village, everything was burned. Her people, though most dead, some were chained and was forced to follow the enemy. Angrily, Zixio swore she would bring justice to their death.
Zixio sat up, startled by her consent dream. It was the middle of the night, the unchanging moon gleamed bright to the city of Cheng. Zixio had grown custom to living there, even if it was as a maid. Luckily, she found a job to work for the Duke and Duchess Gu, and their daughter Ling Gu. Although the conditions were bad, the money outweighed it.
Zixio sat up and carefully went down to the kitchen. The charcoal dye had begun to fade, showing the shiny silver hair. She went to the fireplace and got some charcoal that were already used and started redoing her hair.
The dream was a reminder for her to take revenge.
But how could I possibly take revenge as a maid? She thought. Although she did hear things about her village, there was no evidence of who massacred the village. The maids and workers of the Gu family gossiped about the rumours. Many believed that the Tians were the cause of the misfortune, and that they has lost the Goddess's favor.
Zixio sighed and washed her hands. How could they possibly know about the Tians daughter? The Cheng city was quite close to the Village of Yin, but no one knew the daughter escaped. So they must've covered it up. Zixio had a gut feeling that someone in the city of Cheng were responsible for the many deaths, because they were the only ones who even knew about her. The Tians next heir were kept a secret, which meant no outsider knew of her. Upset for the high statuses of Cheng.
It has been 4 years since that incident occurred, but it still came back to haunt Zixio. There wasn't a single day where she was made fun of the by workers for having deep blue eyes, just like the people of Yin. Although she could stand the criticism, she yearned to know where her family and people were. Tears streamed down her face, remembering the lives that were taken. Could it have been her fault? If she hadn't fled, would they still be alive? The weight of the burden latched onto her shoulders.
Time was running out, and she knew she had to save her people. She sat of the floor of the kitchen and continued her plan. She had saved up the money she had earned for the last 4 years, and it was now enough to support her. I should try to convince the lady to let me go out, then I'll be able to escape from here.
Zixio went back to her room and began packing her few clothings and the money she had. Her stomach grumbled, as she barely ate food to save up. Even so, she ignored it and prayed that things will go well when the sun rose up. It had to go well.
