There was a brave soldier who fought in several wars to fulfill his promise of keeping America safe from enemies, unfortunately he couldnât make it in the Kosovo war (1998-1999), when one of the enemies has stabbed Georgeâs neck with a sharp knife resulting in ending his life painfully.
On January 9th 1999, Grace was doing laundry and singing âbelieveâ by Cher, which was hugely popular back then. On the other part of the house, the daughter Mary was watching her favorite movie âThe Titanicâ for the fifth time. Mary has always wished to find the right person who loves her as Jack does towards rose in the movie and as her father towards her mother in real life.
At 4 pm on the same day, Grace and Mary have heard someone knocking on the door, so Grace has walked towards the door and opened it. Georgeâs colleague in the army Tom was standing and staring sadly into the eyes of Grace.
âHi Tom, it has been a year since the last time you were here in Los Angeles, I hope you are feeling good cuz your facial expressions donât say the same hehe.â Grace started the conversation.
Tom was asking himself silently about what is the proper way to transfer the sad news to his friendâs wife.
âIs everything good Tom? Youâre acting so weird, which doesnât make me feel comfortable right now and by the way where is my husband George? I donât see him beside you and thatâs unusual!â Grace continued the chat.
âDear Grace, I hadnât wished to transfer such news to anyone especially you believe me, but thatâs my duty to do and I need you to be strong when you hear what Iâm about to utterâ Tom talked trying to cover his tears by staring at the ground.
Grace has always knew that the job of being a soldier can end safely or kill you, so she was always ready psychologically and physically to hear the death news about her husband, or thatâs what she has used to think. However, people canât get used to the possibility of losing a precious person. Therefore, Graceâs body has started shaking and said âdonât continue and stop there pleaseâ.
Suddenly out of nowhere, the 16 years old Mary has grabbed the formal uniform of Tom towards her and shouted âwho killed my father?â
The mother was trying to calm her daughter, but she couldn't cuz Mary was densely trained and taught all fighting and defending styles since she was 5 by her father himself.
âHe was stabbed to death by a German, but we have killed that monster immediately, Iâm sorry to both of you for not protecting him back thenâ Tom said staring at his empty hands, which he thought were useless.
Mary left Tomâs shirt and kept staring at her motherâs eyes painfully.
âIt was his fate to die on that specific day and itâs not your fault Tom or your team of what has happened to him. Thank you very much for standing beside him all these past yearsâ Grace said, then looked towards her daughter and continued her words â Honey, we have to be proud of what your dad has done till now trying to protect this country. Weâll continue living our lives as your father has wished, and the first step thatâs going to happen is moving to Miami tomorrowâ.
At 7 pm, Grace was packing her clothes and the other necessary things, while Mary stood beside her mother trying to figure out what's happening.
âMom, whatâs the relationship between my dadâs death and moving to Miami? I donât want to leave the place that I was born in as well as most of my relatives and friends are hereâ Mary said in a sad tone of voice.
Grace stopped packing, looked at the Picture of George that was hanged on the wall, and said âdarling Mary, George has a brother who lives in Miami and your father used to tell me for millions of times that if something bad has occurred to him, we have to go to your uncle Gerryâ. Grace has continued her talk saying âI know it's hard for you to change your whole life so quickly, but you're my baby and I'm gonna protect you, and doing what your dad wants is considered a protection for youâ.
âIâve got what you mean mom, I canât believe how he thought about our lives more than his all this time, I love you father enormously, and please rest in peaceâ. Mary said and looked at her mom saying âIâll go packing my stuff and sleep, we have a long day tomorrowâ.
âThatâs my girlâ Grace shouted.
While Mary was packing her clothes, she was remembering the memory of when she was a little girl and crying because one of the students had bullied her at school, and then at home George noticed Maryâs tears and shouted âMy Mary doesn't cry cuz she's the most freaking brave human existed on this earth and no one is allowed to hurt my soul or she will kick his *** to death, and I'll make sure of that, come hereâ George opened his arms widely to hug his daughter. Also, Mary has remembered how she was trained as a soldier by her dad to protect herself. Before she got to sleep, she held her dad's photo which was in her necklace, and said: âdonât worry about us dad, your brave girl will protect herself and her mother, love youâ.
The night was hard and long on both Grace and Mary, and they were thinking curiously of what the next days are hiding for them.
At 8 am on Sunday, Grace and Mary got on the train that was going to Miami, and when they arrived there they noticed Maryâs uncle who was standing beside the train stationâs main gate waving his hand towards them. Mary wasnât sure at first if that person whoâs waving and smiling was her uncle Gerry because she hasnât seen him except one time when she was four. âItâs your uncle out there letâs goâ Grace said excitedly.
Gerry is 55 years who's tall and has gray hair, he's the CEO of the famous company of cars industry âshoriâ, the companyâs name is a Japanese word that means âvictoryâ.
â Iâm so happy to see my brotherâs wife and my beautiful niece here, I wish I had met you guys before on good occasions, but let George sleep peacefully and let us go home cuz my wife and son are dying to meet youâ George started the conversation.
âItâs glad to see your face Garry after all these years, I have messed being here and I canât wait to see Sara and little Sebastianâ Grace continued her words saying â I think Mary canât remember you because she hasnât come here for years, but she will get to know everyone gradually with days, say hi Mimi to your uncleâ.
âHi uncle Gerry, Iâm thankful to you for letting me and my mother live in your house, and Iâll pay for everything when I get a job, I promise youâ Mary said farmly.
Gerry laughed out loud and said â Mary, you're a true copy of your father, dear I'm not a stranger who collects money from people, I'm your uncle who loves you and consider you as his own daughterâ.
âThank you, it means a lot to me being your daughterâ Mary replied.
Gerry drove Grace and Mary to his huge villa, which is located in the center of Maimi.
When Grace and Mary arrived at Gerryâs villa, they saw a Gorgeous woman and a little boy standing beside the beautiful fountain waving their hands and smiling enthusiastically exactly as Maryâs uncle have done in the train station. Mary was astonished by Saraâs beauty, where she was wearing a red dress with two Golden earrings and a pair of black heels. Geeryâs wife and her son have welcomed both Grace and Mary warmly.
âI've missed you so much Grace and itâs been so long since the last time we chatted together, and of course the little Mary is not little anymore, look at you sweetie youâre now all grown up and beautifulâ Sara continued saying â Iâm so sorry for what happened to George, he was a kind person who dedicated his life in serving America and his efforts will never be forgottenâ.
âIâve missed too Sara, you havenât changed at all you still this glorious and glowing woman, thank you for your words about my husband, I appreciate your kindness and hospitalityâ Grace said and then looked at Sebastian saying âhow is the smartest kid In Miami?â
Sebastian was in the sixth grade, and he got many certificates for his excellent grades and behaviors from the dean of his school. He precisely got his beauty from his mother, and his brain from his father.
âI'm doing great aunt Grace, thank you very much for asking and being sweetâ Sebastian replied, and then he stared at Mary for five seconds and said â you must be Mary, my uncleâs daughter, Iâm so sorry for what has occurred to him in the Kosovo war, but he died as a champion and will be reminded as a champion, we all are proud of himâ.
Mary smiled seeing both Sara and Sebastian, and replied âThank you enormously for your words, Iâm grateful to have such nice people in my lifeâ.
Sara invited Grace and Mary to enter the huge villa, which has four floors. Once Mary entered the main hall, she was amazed by all the beautiful details the place has. The house is architecturally modern and comfortable.
âYou guys will live on the second floor, and your rooms are beside each otherâ Sara said, and then she loudly called one of the housekeepers âWendyâ.
The housekeeper came and replied âYes Maâam, How can I help you?â
âDear Wendy, from now and on you will be helping those guests with everything they need, now take their bags and guide them to their roomsâ Sara ordered.
âNoted maâamâ the housekeeper replied, took the bags, and said politely to Grace and Mary â please follow me, from this wayâ.
âWowâ Mary said after seeing her beautiful new room, which was painted with Maryâs favorite color blue.
âYour room is gorgeous darlingâ Grace said and continued her chat saying â rest now cuz Wendy will do a villa tour to make us familiar with the place later on, also donât forget that tomorrow is your first day in your new schoolâ.
âOkay mummyâ Mary replied.
