I never really understood my older sister and what's going on in her mind, sometimes she acts like a child despite being in her second year of high school. And sometimes she acts a bit too mature for her age.
I was laying on my bed thinking about the weird shit she tells me. She almost sounded like she was in her sixties.
She has always told me to think before I do anything so I don't regret the consequences. "HANAKO!" My thoughts were cut off by my mother's voice. I looked at the door to my room only to see her on the floor panting.
"Hanako, get dressed or you'll be late for school!" I gave her a slight chuckle "Alright mom" I said as I helped her up "Don't forget to wake your sister up"
I nodded "Yes I will mom" that was the last thing she said before she left my room. I yawned "Enough thinking about that, I should get ready!"
I got dressed up, the school uniform was quite simple just a white shirt and black jeans. I combed my hair and tried to fix my bangs.
"Hey, Asami..." I said as I opened the door. She was laying on her bed sleeping peacefully. I tiny smile was carved on my face. It would be a crime to wake her up in this state. I sighed then shook her body hoping for a reaction.
She only whimpered "Two more minutes mom!" She murmured while muttering weird crap about how she hasn't slept for a while.
"Asami! Get up!" I yelled, she was still sleeping. "Hey Asami, dad's home!" I said. She slowly opened her eyes "Dad's here?" She then got up "Where?" She looked around only to see me standing there. "Hana!" She whined.
"Stop calling me by that annoying nickname. It sounds like a girl's name" I said and looked away. "Come on Hana~"
"Asami, I'm not a child anymore!" I kept on whining and she kept on teasing. "Come on you two you'll be late!" Mom yelled from the kitchen downstairs. "Get ready Asami..." I said and got out of her room glad that the teasing is over.
A few minutes later Asami came out of the room wearing her school uniform, she didn't even bother to brush her hair.
She was a messy one she never took care of her hair nor herself. It did annoy mom how she can be so careless all the time. It won't because she had better things to do she mostly locked herself in her room and binge-watched shows she thought were worth watching.
She wasn't all on sports either and her grades weren't all that great either. She used to care about such stuff but now she's absent-minded, inactive and sloppy.
"Asami, fix your hair or you'll get scolded again..." I warned. She then nodded and ran back to her room. After a while, she got out of her room.
Her hair was neat and made nicely. Her hair was rather long, way too long for normal. We tried convincing her to cut it a bit shorter but she cherished it way too much.
According to her dad once told her that he loved her long hair because it reminded him of mom's. She mostly looked like mom but her eyes were dad's eyes.
She had mom's long brown wavy hair and dad'sgray ash-like eyes. Our father wasn't around much since he worked as a pilot. She loved her hair more than me for all I know.
"Won't you consider cutting your hair?" I said but she immediately got upset "But I like my long hair!".
"Yeah, but isn't it getting a bit too long?" She only shrugged at my statement. "Fine don't get all grumpy and upset over that I'm just worried that it'll overgrow and you won't be able to handle it," I said while going downstairs.
She was quick to follow and we both put on our shoes. "Alright here is your lunch" Mom said and handed us our lunches.
"Thank you, mom!" We both said together at the same time. "Now go! You're both already late" she complained. We nodded in agreement and walked outside of our house. It wasn't a long way to school. We lived near both of our schools.
We were walking on the sidewalk. It was quiet for a while. That's when I decided to start a conversation.
"Asami, why are you such a messy person! It's so annoying!" I complained out of the blue. She tilted her head to face me, till we made eye contact. She was silent for a while. Was I too rude?
"I'm not sure. I mean I'm not all that messy I'm just a bit lazy to take care of myself" She reasoned. Her response didn't make sense. "Anyways, you're interested in space?" She said trying to change the subject
"Astronomy" I corrected her. "Yeah, that's what I said" She mumbled as her gaze shifted to the fall huge building that was a few blocks away. "Looks like you've arrived," She said.
"Yeah" I responded, we were meters away from the school's main gate. "I'll see you after school, Hana!" She cheered and started running on the sidewalk. "Good luck!" I yelled hoping she heard me.
Asami's POV :
I started running right after I dropped Hanako off at his school. I was gonna be late and my dear teacher wouldn't like that.
I have always envied Hanako. He was quite the student. He got amazing grades and was pretty social. I on the other hand had an unnatural life.
Even though we both ate the same food, got a good education, slept in the same house and got the same parents he was always the perfect child. He was loved and adored by many people.
It wasn't like I wasn't loved and didn't have friends. I guess I envied him cause he didn't experience what I had experienced at his age.
What I've experienced was too much for atwelve year old child. He was the reason for this. I'm glad that Hanako didn't experience what I've experienced.
It was too much to take in though I still feel bad. No matter how many times he got blood on his hands I would've been able to help him.
But I was afraid of him. It's a secret I liked to keep, a memory I wanted to forget.
I finally arrived at the school's front gate I got inside and started running to my class, I was already five minutes late for my first class chemistry. Mrs Nakamura wasn't an easy one.
I always felt like she hated me or held a grudge against me. I mean I was a very irresponsible student, I never did my homework not assignments and I never studied.
It's only natural for her to dislike me and despise my existence.
I was now facing the door of my classroom. I was hesitant to open it, afraid of my teacher's reaction.
I took a deep breath and opened the door calmly. All my classmates' attention was turned to me. Their eyes were fixated on my figure. "Sorry for being late" I apologized.
Their eyes drifted back to their textbooks. "I'm honestly not surprised" Mrs Nakamura commented bluntly. I looked down, ashamed of myself.
A few giggles were heard. "Please go take a seat, Sato" Mrs Nakamura ordered. I only obeyed and sat in my seat in the back.
"Hey, Asami" Mary whisper yelled. Mary was one of the popular students in this school. She was considered a symbol of beauty in this school.
Every day at least five students would confess their undying love for her but she'd turn them down and reject them rudely.
Her family was pretty wealthy as well. She had perfect scores as well. She was a model student yet she still hung out with someone like me.
When she first attended this school, we were both first years. I was the one to start a conversation with her.
Then we still hung out till now, our second year of high school. She wasn't the type to be friendly with people yet she was glued to me.
"Why are you so late today?" She asked. "I overslept" I answered her.
"You never change, you stupid idiot" Rumi commented. She was one of our classmates who hung out with us often. She was fun to be around.
"Rumi please don't berude." said Kiyoko, she was around Rumi all the time so she hung out with us.
"Come on Kiyo" Rumi started whining.
"I'd appreciate it if you guys didn't talk during myclass" Mrs Nakamura said and fixed her glasses.
"Sorry" the four of us apologized. We stayed quiet for the rest of the class. Classes have passed until it was lunchtime.
"I'm starving!" Rumi whined. "Hey Asami, what do you have for lunch?"
"Just some sandwiches" I answered. "You always eat plain shit!" Rumi spat at me which earned her a slap from Kiyoko.
"Watch your mouth,Rumi." Kiyoko said. "Kiyo! We're not middle schoolers! I can say what I want!"
"Just don't curse in school." Rumi nodded at Kiyoko's statement.
"I have to gosomewhere." I said and got up. "Where are you going?" Mary questioned.
"I promised someone that I'll help them with something!" I answered before walking away.
I was heading to the gym, I promised an upperclassman that I'll be cheering for him.
I was pretty familiar with him since my chemistry teacher Mrs Nakamura is his mother. And he was also muchneighbour. Yes, my chemistry teacher is myneighbour how ironic.
I've seen him around the school here and there but we've never gotten any closer. He was pretty popular which kind of caused me trouble around here.
Having his insane fangirls hovering around me because he chose to be nice to me.
I have never encountered one of his crazy fans till now, I've only gotten death glares from some girls when I walk into the school's gym or class.
"Nakamura!" I yelled hoping to catch the male's attention. I received stares from some females and some other players on the school's basketball team.
"Sorry for being late." I apologised. Nakamura gave me an awkward smile and scratched the nape of his neck.
"Don't apologise, I asked a weird request. I know you probably have better things to do right now and I'm just bothering you." He started mumbling about how he's sorry for what he calls 'bothering' me.
"It'salringht, Nakamura. You're not bothering me at all" I ensured him. He gave me a slight nod "Can you please drop the formality? I'd rather you call me by my first name." He started
"Alright then! Makabe." I smiled at him. He smiled back and was about to say something till he was cut off by one of his teammates, Chikamichi Tamaki, Rumi's older brother.
In all honesty, both of the Chikamichi siblings were assholes. The only difference was that Tamaki Chikamichi was an introverted jerk.
While Rumi Chikamichi was an extroverted idiot. I would never share my thoughts on people with others. That's probably why I'm considered 'innocent'.
I take it all in and act like the sweet little girl everyone thinks I am but I mentally curse them. That doesn't mean I dislike them of some sort.
I just hide the negativity and show positivity.
"Hey Nakamura, quite chit-chating and get to work!" yelled Chikamichi, he looked pissed.
"Sorry Chikamichi!" Makabe said then gave me a warm smile. Great another reason for the insane fangirls to hate my existence.
I sat there watching him play. Iobviously didn't know how the game worked. I only stared and cheered when he looked at me.
I lost track of time while watching him play and score. I looked at my phone just to realize that my geometry class has already started ten minutes ago.
"Crap! I whisper yelled. I ran out of the gym without saying a word. I was getting closer to my class but suddenly had the urge togot to the bathroom.
To myluck there was a bathroom right in front of me. I got inside and did my business. I was washing my handsthen I saw the bathroom door open.
That's when I saw her, Yumi. Let's say we weren't that much of goodfriends. As I said Makabe had insane fangirls and she was just an example.
"I saw you cheering Nakamuratoday" She said breaking the silence. I gave her a warm smile and nodded "Mhm! Makabe asked me himself to cheer for him!" I said acting innocent.
I made sure to use his first name, just to watch her blood boil. I carelessly mentioned that he was the one who asked me, just to see her face turn red out of anger.
And most importantly I smiled innocently. I acted as if I was unaware and naive. Her nails dug into her palm while I still wore the same smile.
"Is something wrong?" I said still keeping the innocent act up. "I have ato go bye, Yumisee youarou—" I tried to walk away to leave the bathroom and then it happened.
She pulled my hair. I only have myself to blame. I pissed her off. I asked her to set me free but she didn't even bother.
"You know I heard Nakamura doesn't like girls with short hair." She mumbled and reached for her skirt's pocket. When I heard her mumble, I had an idea of what was about to happen.
Scissors. She pulled a pair of scissors out of her pocket. She had a tight grip on my hair. She then cut it off like it was nothing.
I then fellon the ground while my hair was still in her hand. She then let my hair go. It was all over the floor. She dropped the scissors while I sawstaring at my hair that was now no longer connected to me.
I was trying to process what had happened. Tears threatening to fall, throughout all those years I refused to even cutit's tips.
My father always said that he liked my long hair. I cherished it, it was so long it could reach my ankles. Now it was all over the bathroom's floor. The thing that I cherished the most and took care of is now gone.
That's when tears started to run down my cheeks. It was probably such a pathetic view to look at. A high schooler sobbing over her hair. To most people, it wasn't something to get all emotional about but to me, my long hair was what I loved about myself.
Yumi looked at me awkwardly "Quit crying! It's just hair!" She said trying to get me to stop my sobbing. "Ugh! You'rereally annoying!" She said before walking out of the bathroom leaving me on the floor.
After a while, I got up and looked at myself, in themirror. Myonce long hair that used to reach my ankles was now barely making it to my shoulders. It was uneven. I got out of the bathroom and then went to the principal's office.
I knocked on the door weakly. "Come in..." After I hear those two words I entered. "What is it?" The principal said while her attention was drawn to a piece of paper.
She raised her head to look at me "What the hell happened to hair, kid?" She scoffed. "Nothing, it's always like that" I lied. "Was your hairstylist blindfolded while doing your hair." Her words were like knives.
But I didn't blame her I looked like a dog was chewing on my hair. "Make sure to fix it cause you look hideous." She commented.
"Iactually came here because I feeling a bit dizzy and I vomited just a while ago. I was wondering if I can go home"
"Yeah sure just get out, you look like someone just hit your face with a hammer, your eyes are buffy and stuff" She complained. I smiled and nodded.
"Can you please not tell my parents about this I don't want them to get all worked up about something silly like this." She nodded.
