A life like this is just not what I wanted. I may just collapse in a second if nothing good happens. Why am I actually like this? Where did I go wrong?
Back then I was the top ranked assassin, and yet now. Really, you can't let your guard down. Even though you're successful, nature won't let you be what you want. Nature always makes its way so as to challenge you. As for me, I quit even without trying.
Tomorrow I'm turning ninety two but I feel like I won't be staying any longer. It feels like I'm dying. If only there's a next life. I would totally be the best assassin that everyone likes. Compared to my current situation, I am all alone. No family, no friends, no children, no lover, nothing, I'm filled with empty darkness. So I'm hoping there is a next life for me. I feel dizzy. Maybe I just have to take a little nap.
Laying down on the ground, under the strong heat of the sun. Had thought it’s the end of my life, but a bright light appeared calling a name that I'm not familiar with. As I opened my eyes, a young girl was crying and begging for me to wake up. As she was so loud weeping that I blocked her mouth with my hand. She raises her head and jumps to hug me. I couldn't move, I was a bit shocked. But, how did this girl know me? And, how then do I end up being in the middle of a forest?
We're back into "my family's" house. But I'm still confused. How did I end up here? Am I actually reincarnated or something?
As far as I know, I am Cycris Dé Ferlan. The first daughter of Dé Ferlan's Family. A family of hunters.
At that time in the forest, I was actually being trained by Edmond Dé Ferlan, my father. But a wild boar appeared behind me. Ended up being tossed by father as to be saved.
It's been a month since I transmigrated to another world. No, maybe I'm in the same world but in a different era.
People here seem to have a strong faith in god. I walked on a long street the other day and noticed that people here sought to revitalize their culture. What's more is that in every distance you took you could see people's artistic works and enjoy all sorts of entertainment. But the main struggle was day to day survival, in a sense like modern families who live from paycheck to paycheck or homeless people who live from the rummaging of the day. Fathers had to ensure security while mothers had to sit back and listen to their orders. I've seen nuns teaching the power of looking to the past for insights and inspiration in dealing with today's issues. By looking to the past for guidance today, not only can we find potential sources of answers, but also ways to address current challenges that previous societies have faced.
Humanists in this era sought to create a citizenry able to speak and write with eloquence and clarity, thus capable of engaging in the civic life of their communities and persuading others to virtuous and prudent actions.
To think that some aristocrats could build a mansion that's as big as two villages combined. But the villagers were the ones to suffer great losses, it just pissed me off.
"A new target unleashed"
March 19. I'm lacking in strength so I decided to go along with my father and hunt for a big prey. It's a bit difficult for me to move since I wasn't used to the body I'm into. Climbing trees should be a good way to practice since assassins must be good at acrobatic moves. Calculating distance of a prey and distance to make the trap should enhance my mental skills.
March 31. My practice routine seemed to have some improvement since I can now move swiftly. Climbing trees is a piece of cake. In addition, I can move from one tree to another.
April 2. It's my mother's birthday. My sister Mathua was planning on something and asked me to go buy some things with her. She planned on giving our mother Silvarine a precious gift but all we could see in stores isn't that kind of a precious thing. And so my sister discovered a place where she could buy some glimmering stones and ask me to go along with her. We both took steps to enter that place. It was a café for sweets. Muthua was kind of disappointed since the location she received wasn't a shop or something but a café for sweets instead. So as not to waste our time going to the café I sat down and sighed and ordered two strawberry parfait. And thank goodness she likes it. But it feels like they're all watching us. Muthua fainted and I was so late to realize that the parfait was drugged, I actually put my guard down and so a stranger covered my head with a sack. I can't breathe, I was suffocating, I lost consciousness.
The day they removed the sack on my head, I was actually in an abandoned place where a hundred children were in. I feel the coldness and fear on every child's weep.
One criminal was laughing while walking towards the young boy crying and slitting his neck as he was annoyed by it's whine but it was also a way of him saying that if any of us dares to plan on escaping he wouldn't hesitate to kill. The boy on my side was so terrified that he wet his pants. Muthua was in a deep trance, I could clearly see that she was so scared that she was freezing. I could only cover her eyes to calm her down. I clenched my fist and could only grit my teeth, I don't have a plan.
A little observation took me three days. There's no food, no water. Children's stomachs were growling way too loud.
"Dammit! I already have my first target and yet now," I uttered as I grit my teeth and clench my fist.
This kind of kidnapping is weird. Obviously not some kind of kidnapping for ransom since the kids' clothing is a bit shabby. In addition to that, we have been treated unfairly for three days now.
This old and abandoned warehouse that was filled with a hundred children, doesn't have any windows. The ceiling was too far to climb up and no light came from above. It's total darkness. But the cold wind that's coming from under makes us shiver.
Every wall has the same size. The door is made with steel. The ceiling, probably made with cement since it's too fine.
It seems like the place is a cube shaped like a warehouse.
"Si-sister there is something that's pitching my leg," Muthua whispered in a painful voice.
I slowly touched her waist down to her legs as I couldn't see well. It was a sharp like thing that can move.
I groaned as it bit me.
The boy from my left curiously asked what I was doing.
"I'm searching for something" I answered with a gentle soft voice.
"Here" the boy implied as he passed me the torch.
I lit on the torch, it's light scattered. I can see clearly, crabs surrounded me. Instead of having the feeling of fright my eyes open wide as I'm filled up with satisfaction. Crabs are full of protein so it would be of a great help to fill up a starving stomach. I fed everyone's mouth with a little bite and it wasn't enough to fill one person but at least it could ease the pain. The fact that we can't make fire is just a pain to the ***. Fortunately we can eat the Crab's raw.
Took a closer look at the floor but it's just normal, nothing special. Turning back, slowly touching the wall, I can feel it's coldness. I noticed something, at every end of the wall there were barred windows. Each barred window is enough for one child to pass through. The problem is, I have no weapon to cut such a strong bar. A saw-like thing should be enough but it must be sharp.
Someone opens the door. It's creaking. Light's flicker. A man in black steps into and walks towards the boy from my left. His cuffing the poor boy's hand with a rope.
"Be good, or I'll end you" he stated as his eyes looked fury down to the boy.
The boy could only weep as his hands were cuffed in front.
I stared at the man in black and noticed the shred of light around his waist. Intentionally bump into him.
I was so pissed off and disgusted because he spit phlegm on my shirt.
"Too bad, I didn't expect to grab this toy thingy." I murmured.
"How I wish to grab at least a nail file."
"Tch, a bow like toy. Why would he bring such useless thi-" a click of realization comes into my mind.
I carefully touched it's wire and just as I thought. It's a coping saw, it's way better than what I had imagined. It's a mini coping saw that's the same size as my foot, a seven aged girl.
Cut the barred windows in it's end so as not to get wounded if I pass through it.
I was planning on escaping through the cut down bars and asking for help from the high authorities. I intend on leaving my little sister while I will risk my life to escape. But it doesn't look like it. Thought it would be easier to escape and ask for help but it wasn't. It was like a game where you have to pass through on five different stages. On stage one, a lousy old boy was my opponent. It wasn't hard at all, it just took me a while to take him down. On stage two, a ***** was there to challenge me. It gives me a chilly feeling down to my spine, I turn around. Her lewd face grossed me out. I wanted to puke. She was actually throwing white weird slimes that's toxin, it smells like body liquid. I got hit, and it's burning hot. Luckily, it's just a scratch, nothing serious. It didn't take me long. I just have to pierce my knife on her belly button. On my third stage, it's a maze-like room. Too many doors, too many ways.
I entered the middle door without noticing something. It feels chilly. As I turned around, I covered my mouth, I was so shocked by what I saw.
A young boy must be around sixteen years young. Covered in blood, tied up in the wall. Curiously touch his cheeks. It feels smooth but cold. He then slowly opened his eyes, teared up without even noticing. He wasn't making any sounds. His eyes were full of sorrow.
"Does it hurt?" I asked as I gently caressed his cheeks.
"N-numb"
"Don't worry, just bear with it a little more and I'll be back to get you out of here."
His eyes gently shut.
I sneak opened the door. No one's around.
I've been wandering around for a while now and it feels like I'm just walking in a circle.
I choose another path.
It's a total darkness, no light. I walk on backwards and bump into something soft. And a ray of light appeared. I shut my eyes as it was too lucid. It was ceramic or metal oil lamps, with a wick protruding above the lip of the vessel that a girl (maybe she's about six years older than me) has been holding. Wearing such aristocratic clothes. I then immediately grab into my coping saw for self defense. They seem to be suspicious.
A footsteps coming from the other side. The girl then blows off the lamp. The place is too narrow. No place to hide.
The footsteps stopped right in front of me. I hold my breath, but I can't control any longer.
I sneakily attack the target. Cut it's neck using the coping saw I'm holding.
The girl then steps forward towards me.
The girl then steps forward towards me.
"I'm Abigail Eccles, sorry to frighten you earlier. We're actually here to save someone."
"We're?"
"Oh! The boy in my back is Rafael Eccles, he's my brother. Don't underestimate him just because he is nine."
(I actually don't notice him there.)
"From the way you look, you must be from a known family" I asked.
"Yes, we're just here to save someone"
It was awkward. She's too straightforward.
"Who's this someone you say?"
"Abigail's husband"
I'm dumbfounded. A thirteen years old girl is actually married? And I myself lived for almost a hundred years but still living as a ******. It shocked me to hell.
"We've been married since the day I was born. My husband is Martin. We used to be childhood sweethearts."
"How about Rafael? Are you also married?"
"No"
A sigh of relief.
"But I'm already engaged"
I was astounded and felt like there's a knife piercing through me.
"I see," I utter as I turned around.
"From the way you move and speak you must be a well trained slayer"
Those words stop me.
"Cycris, my name's Cycris. You can call me Cris."
"Cycris, such a unique name" as Rafael praised.
"Well then, can you give us a hand?"
It pissed me off. She has no manners at all. All she could do was to demand. If only I could smack her. Ugh!
"I thought you're from a well educated family and are well mannered, didn't think you would be like this."
"Sorry for my sister's rudeness. Please accept my apology" Rafael bows in beg for forgiveness.
"The one that has to ask my forgiveness shouldn't be you but your sister instead."
"You litt-" she dashed towards me.
Luckily I duck, and jump to slap her face.
She was groaning in pain. Trying to raise her right foot as she wants to kick me. But Rafael stops her.
"We should be moving," Rafael demands.
We took different paths.
After a minute of walking I bumped into someone. I hold my coping saw tightly. But the voice is too familiar.
As expected, I bumped into those siblings again. Rafael then greets me.
Took different ways, again. Bumped into them, again. Took different ways, again. Bumped into them, again.
"Are you somehow lost?" Rafael asked.
The word lost just makes me feel irritated. I was frustrated. So weak to stand up.
"I told you, it would be best if you join hands with us" Abigail murmured.
Rafael nodded his head. And saying that Abigail is good at calculating distance and strength while he himself is good at using sharp weapons and guns.
The conversation stopped as we heard loud footsteps.
It stops. The footsteps are gone. I took a deep sigh in relief. But Rafael covered my mouth. I feel hot and red. My heart skips a beat.
No. Wait. This isn't right. I swear I don't have any feelings for him. Gross! I'm too old. Yuck, I'm going to puke. It's child abuse. I'm abusing a child. What to do? I feel dizzy.
The ceiling got a weird creaking sound. I look up.
It's a human. A lizard. Maybe a human lizard. And it has long hair with good body curves. A lady human lizard. I'm totally confused on what I had witnessed.
It's crawling on the ceiling. And pass us through. Finally gone.
"I can see that you come here intentionally. So, you probably know what kind of situation you're going to face. Now, my question is," I stop as I take a deep breath.
"What was that thingy lizard like a human crawling on the ceiling? I know that you know the answer." I burst on my speech.
"You're from another country?" Rafael asked.
"Nnn, I-" saying such lame response with an awkward smile.
"Well, it's all because of that wicked physician. It started when her son got infected by some strange disease caused by the bite of an infected flea. That develops a sudden onset of fever, headache, chills, and weakness and one or more swollen, tender and painful lymph nodes. As she noticed something black appearing on her son's skin she then was researching for an effective cure for her child. But what she discovered was some demonic way of curing patients. She feeds her son with the pure child's blood. Nothing happened. Her son is still infected by that unknown disease. Somehow she uses human bodies to experiment. And what you saw just now is the outcome."
"Then Abigail, why didn't you ask the high authorities for help?"
Abigail sighed. "They were too busy dealing with the war in the countryside."
"Oh! So my escape plan is useless" I mumble.
Rafael glanced at me and Abigail.
Rafael then curiously asked how I ended up here. I'm observing the path while answering him.
The path is weird. Going down to the hallway you can see two paths. In going to the narrow path, it's a dead end. But what kills my curiosity is that, how could that creature walk through this area if it's a dead end?
I began searching for something, something like a hidden key to open up a secret door.
And boom! I trigger something. A door opens. I could see light from the outside. We three took steps. But what we have seen is something we don't expect.
It's a human body being surrounded by lamps. Beside the lamp there's a formation of stains in maroon color. The scent was too strong to bear. I could smell it's stinky odor of blood.
We heard a tapping sound approaching. Quickly searching for a place to hide.
I've seen it. The physician they're saying. Wearing a dirty white dress. Silver hair. She has a wide, round face with a pointed chin. Her eyes are big and darkish-brown, with dark eyelashes and a shapely figure.
I thought she would look old, covered in wrinkles. But her beauty was alluring. I seemed to be bewitched. I can't get my eyes off her. Can't control my body. It wants to go near her.
Rafael flicks my forehead to awaken my senses.
