Love Under The Apple Tree
Episode 1
Sitting at a cafe near the window
Maggie Wall
What do you wanna do then?
June Lee
What do you mean?
Maggie huffs as if June was supposed to read her mind.
Maggie Wall
Y’know… after college? The future?
June shakes his head, he hadn’t thought about it much.
June Lee
Uhm… get a job? Be financially stable?
Maggie rolled her eyes, frowned and looked at the doe eyed, brown haired boy in front of her.
Maggie Wall
Obviously I’m asking for more than that! Think deeper!
Maggie Wall
I’m thinking… I’m going to start my own business one day or maybe travel the world! So… what about you?
June fiddled with the coffee cup in front of him. He really hadn’t thought that far. The only thing he was worried about was graduating.
Whatever happens in the future happens, that’s what he’s always thought.
June Lee
Ah then I guess get out of this town? I mean there isn’t really anything here, just a few shops so…
Maggie Wall
Yeah, yeah, I know.
After a brief pause Maggie rests her hand on June’s left arm on the table. Grabbing Junes attention forcing him to make eye contact.
Maggie Wall
Why don’t you come with me?
June looked at her, confusion written all over his face.
Maggie Wall
Come with me on my next adventure.
She looked at him, seriousness in her eyes.
Maggie liked going on little adventures, where she goes and tries out new things to see if she’ll like to do whatever it is, in the future.
She’d be away one week to a few months and she’s always asking June to go with her but he’d always refuse.
Seeing her with such seriousness that she’s never truly had before, it really pulled June’s heartstrings.
Maggie’s eyes light up as she grabs his arm a little tighter from excitement.
June quickly quiets her down to avoid more stares from others in the cafe.
The smile she had could light up the world.
Maggie Wall
June Lee, you won’t regret this.
He nods and gives her a small smile.
Maggie had been his best friend since his first year of high school, they’d been through thick and thin together.
They enrolled into the same university, but that’s not saying much since in this small town there was only one university nearby.
He couldn’t imagine not having her in his life, she was the only person he’d ever been so close to and he wouldn’t want it any other way.
June Lee
So where are we going for this fantastic adventure?
Maggie Wall
A farm! Wilkins’ Farm!
All June could do was stare.
He didn’t know what to say, of all the places they could go. TOGETHER. A farm??
Maybe he would regret saying yes…
A/N: I don’t own any of the photos used. Credit goes to the artists and I will have my own photos drawn for the characters very soon.
Episode 2
Maggie Wall
Uh… yes? A farm.
Maggie looked at him like he had asked a dumb question.
Maggie Wall
What? You backing out now?
June Lee
No… I just don’t know a thing about farming…
She lets out a short and quick laugh
Maggie Wall
June, neither do I!
Maggie Wall
I’m not asking you to come with me just to do some work. I’m going to do that. I’m asking you to come with, to get you away from all this.
She rotates her hand, pointing in every direction.
Maggie Wall
Unless you want to do some work, then that’s fine too.
June was quick to shake his head.
Maggie Wall
So? You still coming or not?
After thinking, June really needed a break from this town and going with Maggie would give that to him.
She pulls out her phone, texting him the date for when they’d leave.
Maggie Wall
This Saturday should be fine right? I mean we don’t have any classes for the next couple weeks cause it’s holiday so…
June Lee
Yeah it’s fine. I’ll just make sure I have all my things set and ready.
Maggie nods before looking at her phone again, eyes widening.
Maggie Wall
Ahhhhh I forgot I had a tutoring session with Alfred…
She gets out of her seat looking at him with a apologetic smile.
Maggie Wall
I have to go… see you Saturday?
June Lee
Yeah. See you Saturday Maggie.
She waves goodbye as she leaves the cafe.
With Maggie gone June gets up to leave too.
Maybe farming would be his thing too, maybe he’d end up having fun and decide that’s his future.
June almost bursts out laughing from his own thoughts. Farming life? No way.
He’d go and read, take it as a break from social media and this town.
When he gets home he’s met with silence. His small apartment was empty and didn’t have many things but he liked it this way, he didn’t have to clean too much.
His phone starts ringing after he sits on the small couch.
June’s Mom
June! I’m calling to ask how everything’s doing?
June’s Mom
It’s been awhile since we’ve talked.
June Lee
Ah… everything’s fine mom. I’m passing all my classes so there’s nothing to worry about there.
June’s Mom
Mm… how about friends? Maggie?
This was his moms second topic every time she called. His mom had always wanted Maggie and him to end up together even though he’s told her many times it was impossible.
June Lee
Maggie’s fine mom. Actually we’re planning on taking a trip somewhere this weekend..
June’s Mom
Oh really? That’s nice! I’m glad you’re going out, I feel you really need it. Where to?
June Lee
Ahh some place, we haven’t decided yet.
He wasn’t going to tell his mom it was a farm they were going to. He didn’t want to hear the questions and pestering.
June’s Mom
Ah… well I hope you stay safe when you go and remember I love you June. You know you can call me for whatever… right?
June Lee
I will and yes mom. I love you too.
His mom only called about twice a month and he’d only call her once. He loved his mom, very much but he often found it difficult to find things to talk about with her.
Sighing he gets up and starts packing his bags. Might as well pack earlier so he wouldn’t forget later.
Episode 3
Maggie is waiting outside of June’s apartment but it seems that he forgot the time they were going to leave. She pulls out her phone and calls him.
Maggie Wall
June! Did you forget??
She let out a huge sigh, he really forgot.
June Lee
Oh!! I’m sorry Maggie! I knew I’d forget so I packed the day we talked…
Maggie didn’t know what to say.
Maggie Wall
June. We literally talked about this three day ago… how do you always manage to forget things so easily???
She wasn’t upset, just a bit concerned.
She heard a sigh on the other end.
June Lee
I’m really sorry Maggie. I don’t know how I do it…
Maggie Wall
Well… just get out here. I’ve been waiting for twenty minutes and it’s freezing out here.
She could see her breath as she spoke as she waiting in the car. She didn’t want to waste gas so she had turned it off ten minutes ago.
Right when she turned the car back on, June came out. Bags in hand.
He quickly put his things in the trunk before sitting with her in the front.
June Lee
Ahhhhhh sorry Maggie…
Maggie Wall
It’s fine June. I’m not angry.
She pulls out of the parking space and starts driving to their destination.
She chuckles, keeping her eyes on the road.
Maggie Wall
Why not? I mean, I just wanna see what it’s like.
June Lee
Ah okay well… why a farm during winter?
She smiles slightly before replying.
Maggie Wall
I know it’s not a smart move right? I don’t know, I kinda just decided to go to a farm at the spur of a moment. Wasn’t really thinking of the weather or season. Who knows if we, I mean if I will be able to do work.
June nodded, thinking about what she had said.
June Lee
I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to.
June Lee
Do the owners of the farm know we’re coming?
He had been thinking this since they started driving.
Maggie Wall
You may not believe this but I’m friends with the farm owners son, John.
June couldn’t help but look at her, not because he didn’t believe her but because she’d think he wouldn’t believe her.
June Lee
Uh I believe you.. I mean you do tutor a lot of people so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was one of them.
Maggie Wall
Yeah… he’s kinda on the silent side. Doesn’t really talk. I had a bit of trouble when I had started tutoring him a few months ago because it was so silent.
June Lee
Can’t imagine. You talk a lot.
Maggie let out a laugh. June just smiled thinking about the pair.
Maggie Wall
I know I do and that’s what sucked. He didn’t talk and all I wanted to do was talk but he ended up actually opening up to me about a month ago. It was about time!
Maggie Wall
I had found out his parents had a farm and then I asked “hey can I go to your farm sometime?” And yeah…
June looked out the car window thinking about the guy, John. Wondering if he’d be there, most likely and if they’d talk. June wasn’t talkative either but not to that extent.
It’d be nice to make a new friend…
Without knowing when, he fell asleep.
