Have you ever wondered where would you like to celebrate your 15th birthday or what gift would you like to receive from your parents, relatives and friends?

well Emery Willow had many wises. But now she's sitting in the church with some relatives and neighbors with sobs and eyes welled with water on her birthday. And as a gift she received a curse. Her parent's death news. she became an orphan. the day they gave birth to her they left her alone that very day.

And alone means really alone.

a day after the funeral

"Miss Willow, it's seems that none of your relatives are willing to take you in. " the lady of the child protection agency said in sad tone.

Emery didn't need to be told that by her. she already over heard them last night that how troubled they are with this situation and how none of them want to take her in. she's just burden afterall.

she knew it before hand what the lady said but it still hurt to hear it from someone that how everyone seeing her as a burden but no one is seeing her pain. even Emery's 2 years old pet dog, Berry can understand her pain who is also mourning by putting his face down on the floor. sharing a same expression as Emery.

For the past 15 years, Emery grew up in a warm home with loving parents. But now that they are not here she is finally seeing the real face of everyone.

"well we can wait 1 more day in hopes if there's maybe a distance relative who would like to take you in. if not... then we have to put you in foster care."

this just added to her depression and gloominess.

With a panicked expression she spoke for the first time in so long.

" ca.. can't I st..stay here?" her voice came harsh because of all the crying.

" I'm sorry miss Willow but you are still a minor. according to the law we can't allow that."

she didn't like the idea of going to an unfamiliar place. Among unfamiliar people.

she took a quick glance at Berry. and again look at the lady.

"what.. about... Berry?"

this question even broke the lady's heart. afterall even she can see that the dog is maybe the only one who is actually sad about Emery's loss.

"well we can find someone to take care of him too .." she was unsure of her own statement.but she didn't wanted to upset the poor little girl.

This made Emery more gloomy. afterall berry is the only family she had left.

I don't want it . I don't want it! I don't want it!!!

was all her mind was screaming.

"I think that's it for today. I'll take my leave. I'll see you tomorrow evening . take care, Emery."

she just slowly nodded .

everyone left by saying good bye. no one even care how she's gonna live in this place even for a day and night.

at night she was so scared that she hugged berry all night close to her.

the next day went in blur and it was almost evening.

Emery was scared. she couldn't think anymore. she even start to think of her self as a burden.

And Emery knew it was finally time to face the reality when she heard the doorbell rang.

she didn't wanted to let them in. she didn't wanted them to put her in foster care.

she didn't wanted any of these.

but still with heavy feet she went towards the door and opened it.

but what she saw , she definitely wasn't expecting that.

instead of the lady of yesterday, there was a tall man standing at her doorstep.

she looked at him confused.

and what he said made her even more confused.

"sorry I'm late."

why is he sorry? what is he late for? who is he?

"sorry I'm late"

why is he sorry? what is he late for? most importantly who is he?

she was very confused. there were many questions in Emery's mind. but as for the identification she guessed he's a new agent sent for her.

Emery looked at him for few seconds and noticed he's eyes showed sadness. but there was something else in his eyes . a familiarity she guessed but didn't paid mind to it.

"can we come in?" ,he spoke again .

wait.. we? now that she looked behind him there were two more men standing.

then she realized that she was holding them outside for too long.

she step aside from the door .

"please come in"

the man slightly nodded and walked inside and took sit on the couch in the living room. the other two stand behind him. they didn't sit.

she went to sit opposite to them. Berry came to sit near her feet.

she looked at the man and noticed that he was looking around the house.

he finally locked eyes with her and softly asked, "are you living alone?"

why is he asking that? shouldn't he already know?

she was thinking that but didn't said anything and just nodded to his question.

"Emery do you know what am I here for?"

again another confusing question.

she thought. she looked down and answered slowly

"to get me to foster care.."

"that's not what I'm here for, Emery. "

this made her looked at him again in confusion.

this man is full of confusions.

"aren't you from the agency?"

" no I'm not. we obviously never met before but we are actually related. "

"oh. then who are you?"

" My name is Ezra McCall."

McCall?

a distance relative or friend she guessed.

"so you are here to show your condolences I guess. thank you for coming."

"part of it ofcourse but that's not all I'm here for, Emery. "

she was going to ask him then what but then the bell rang again. she excused herself and went to answer the door. this time the one came is the lady from yesterday.

as soon as the lady saw Emery she embarrassed her with a big smile.

Emery got confused why is she so happy. but it felt good to be hugged.

she let Emery go and held her shoulders and said,

"congrats Emery. we finally found someone willing to be your guardian."

this made Emery so shocked that she couldn't even form words.

"w..what??!!... w..who...!!??"

"I'll tell you let's go inside."

"oh.. right. I'm sorry.."

"it's alright.. so we received a call this morning and..." she paused when she saw there were people setting on the couch.

"oh you have guest. and who might this be?"

"uhmm...this is..."

Emery got cut off

" I am Ezra McCall. I'm guessing you are from the agency. I was the one who talked to you this morning."

she saw that he was now standing beside her and extended his hand.

the lady took the hand and Shaked and said," oh hello . I'm Elenore. my god I didn't expect you to be so young. nice to meet you"

"same here" he said with a small smile.

"you are here earlier than I expected."

he released a sigh and said, "no.. I'm already two days late." now he's looking at Emery with a sad face.

"I can understand. "

"wait why did you call miss Elenore this morning, Mr. McCall? " Emery finally asked .

" you still didn't talk to her Mr. McCall"

"I just got here a few minutes ago. we were just going to talk about it"

then the lady turn to Emery and said,

"Emery, Mr. McCall is here to be your guardian."

"Emery, Mr. McCall is here to be your guardian."

this made Emery completely dumbstruck.

she keep looking at Elenore and Ezra back and forth trying to understand the situation.

she couldn't understand why would a complete stranger want to take her in.

so she asked still in her shocked state," bu..but.. why would you be my guardian? who are you?"

she was looking at Ezra in shock.

Elenore hold her shoulders and made Emery look at her.

"Emery , it's okay. don't worry. I know you don't know him but Mr. Ezra McCall here is actually your uncle. he's your mother's younger brother."

brother!?

"no I think there's a mistake here. mom's name isn't McCall. it's Brooke."

"well I think it would be better to leave that story for later but there's no mistake that Mary McCall or Brooke as you say is indeed my older sister."

"mom never mentioned anyone from her parent's house"

"that's sad( sad smile). but that doesn't change the fact that we are related. if you really need proof I think this should be enough"

he said and show me a picture on his phone.

there's a girl in her late teenage who had a hand snaked around the shoulder of a boy who looked just the younger version of Ezra. Both had a bright smile on there face. there are more people in the picture too but she didn't pay mind to them.

now she understood why she felt a familiarity in his eyes.that little boy looked almost identical with the girl. he had grown since then but there's still very much similarities.

Emery's eyes were mostly focused on the girl. she could recognize her any moment of a day.

Emery almost had tears in her eyes seeing the smile on her mother's face.

Ezra came beside her and said pointing towards the picture.

"that's your mother right? on her left the boy she is holding is me and beside me is our father, your grand father and beside your mom is your grandmother. is this enough to make you believe?"

now Emery was crying. she was missing her mother. she thought there was no more people who cared about her.

but the question still remains. why is he here now.? why didn't they keep contact all this year's?

with all these things in her mind she still couldn't put her trust in Ezra.

but she herself felt bad that finally she found someone who cares about her but she couldn't put her trust in them. she couldn't think of him as a good person.

Ezra took the phone from Emery and made look at him by holding her shoulders lightly and said, " I know you have many things you want to ask. and I think you deserve the answers. I also know that you are not trusting me yet but please just give a chance. "

"I don't want to make the same mistake twice. " he mumbled.

Emery looked at with watery eyes and saw that his eyes were full of emotions. sadness, guilt , helplessness, begging and so on. what did he mean by that? she thought but didn't said anything.

Ezra was still holding her in place . maybe I can try my luck. she thought.

looking down, she sobbed one last time and slightly nodded her head.

Ezra was beyond happy. "is that a yes?"

she nodded again and mumbled yes.

Ezra sighed in relief. "thank you so much, Emery . I promise you won't regret your decision"

"miss Elenore I think now we can proceed with the paperworks."

"wonderful. I am so happy for you Emery"

"how long will it take to finish the whole work . we have to go back as soon as possible."

" wait .we ....go back?? go where?" Emery asked in confusion.

"I live in New York, Emery. if I'm going to be your guardian you should live with me right. so we'll be going back to my house in New York."
