"Wake up Lin, you're getting late for school. If you don't hurry you'll have to walk to school since your dad can't be late for his meeting too."

It's still so early in the morning, I don't know what mom keeps going on about.

"Give me ten minutes." I shouted.

"You don't have time honey, it's already past 8. Wash up and get ready in 5." My mom replied.

Oh, my clock's battery is dead.

I realised that I really am late today .

It is not that I'm always late but last night there was this new show playing and I couldn't miss it. Mom was quite mad at me for that but hey I'm already 13, I'm old enough to stay up late aren't I?

"Mom did you pack my lunch?." I asked as I get ready for school.

"Yes, I already put it in your backpack. Now hurry up, dad is waiting for you in the car."

I hurriedly grabbed my bag and got into the car.

"This won't do Lin, you have your responsibilities and so do I. Mine is to get to the office on time and do my work properly while yours is to go to school and learn. As a man you cannot make these minor compromises. Do you understand?" Said my dad.

Unlike my Mother who is always cheerful and full of energy and likes to spoil me, my dad was kind of strict and never lost his composure infront of me.

"I understand dad, I won't do it again." I replied

You see, I attend this school that I'm not very fond of. It's like a gathering of the high class; I managed to get in not because I'm one of them but because of my dad who spent the family fortune on me just so I can have a bright future.

I honestly think that it's wasted on me. I can't socialize that well with the others to start and adding the element of status to it only just worsens it.

I arrive at school and greet my classmates, the teachers on the hallway and hastily make my way into the class.

"You're late today Luke, how unusual." said Hanna.

"Forget it Hanna, he doesn't like to speak. A good morning is all you get." said Rya.

Ah, it's the same as always. It's like I leave them on read since I'm unable to come up with a reply that may not come out wierd.

"I'm sorry". I replied.

They stared at me like I was a helpless dog on the streets.

That's all I could say? I have bigger problems at hand here.

My socializing skills aren't even upto par with the average person.

I seriously need help.

God, I want to leave this place. Let me go somewhere normal otherwise I might become the opposite of what my dad wanted of me.

The classes ended at 3 in the afternoon like normal.

I wasn't expecting anything as I made my way home like usual; stopping by the shopping district, window shopping on the regular.

I reached home and took a shower after which I went and played some games on my pc.

"Lin, I'm home, I got some sweets from our neighbour so you can come down if you want some." said my mother.

"Alright mom, I'll be down in a second." I replied.

The sweets that mother brought were quite good, I'm thankful for such great neighbours, hehe.

Dad reached home late because he had some discussions with his boss and while we were eating dinner, he revealed a big surprise; well for me at least.

Dad came home late and revealed a news that was going to change my life forever.

As we sat and ate our dinner, dad brought up a topic that came as a surprise for both mom and me.

Dad was being promoted at his work but he needed to move to another state entirely for it.

"Honey, if it isn't that big of a promotion, can't we turn down the offer?" Mom asked dad.

"Well I would have done that on the spot if that was the case but it isn't. It raises my pay by three-fold and the work conditions are also much better. That's why I decided to first consult you about it and then make a decision". Said my dad.

Hey, I'm not involved in the conversation but it's a yes from my side dad, take it!

"But Lin will also have to change school if we're going to move that far. It will impact his studies and not to mention the fact that we have to look for housing there too." said mom.

"Don't worry about that, my boss said we don't have to look for a house. If I take the promotion, I'm also getting a house the same size as ours but we need to clean it ourselves and make some renovations. It isn't too shabby but time has done some work on it. We don't have to worry about Lin too, his grades are excellent, once we settle in, everything would be back to normal." my dad replied.

I'm dying here mom, just agree to it.

It has been a while since I've been this pumped up about a topic at the dinner table.

Please just say yes mom.

"Lin, are you fine with this?Won't it be hard on you since you'll have to leave your friends behind too?" asked my mom.

"It'll be okay mom. I haven't seen dad this serious once so I think this promotion means a lot to him. I'll make new friends there too so let dad take the promotion mom." I replied.

As they continued to discuss how they'll start the moving process, I finished my food and went up to my room with a smile that's probably bigger than a sliced melon.

I feel as if I've used up all of the luck I had on that wish but I don't think it matters because right now I'm as happy as I could be.

Mom asked me to start packing all my stuff up on cardboard boxes and so I did. Meanwhile mom and dad prepared my transfer which went smoothly or so they said.

"Lin, we're going to move on Saturday so you better finish up packing your stuff." said my mom.

"Don't worry, I'm done with it. I'm all prepared mom." I replied.

Saturday arrived within the blink of an eye...I'm kind of stretching it but I don't think I care enough.

"Lin, are you ready to see our new home?" asked mom.

I'm not ready for this. All these years all I've been waiting for was this and it's finally happening.

"Yes mom, wherever we go as long as mom and dad are with me I'll be happy." I replied.

Dad casually starts driving and says that it'll probably take a day and a half to reach there.

It'll be a long ride but the new beginning that's waiting for me there, I can't wait for it.

I'll have to make the most of what I'll be presented with this time around so I really hope I don't mess it up this time.
