Haunt Your Soul For Your Blood?

CHAPTER 1

"Li Sun!" Li Xiao shouted from the kitchen, placing the dishes on the table provided. A dim light illuminated the room making it harder for Li Xiao to work in the room. Well it was for the best actually. Since Li Sun had been complaining about the room being too bright for her eyes they had both found the candle much more convenient at the moment than the neon chandelier that hang arrogantly above them. Li Xiao wiped off his hands on the dishtowel he found by the sink a light frown creeping on his face.

"Li Sun, get down here or the food will get cold!"

He waited impatiently for the reply he well knew for himself that it would never come. 'Four days....'he repeated in his head, counting the meals that his sister had missed.

"What a pain!" Li Xiao muttered looking at the food on the table. A small smile crept on his face replacing the frown that had been there before when he heard the silent creek of Li Sun's bedroom door opening slowly as if hesitant to leave its hinge.

Li Xiao watched in disbelief as his sister descended down the stairs in a sweat polo neck and ripped leggings. Her black hair was tied into a bun with a few strands of loose hair hanging from her forehead.

"Where are you going?" he asked after regaining five of his senses. Li Sun kept quiet or pretended like she did not hear her brother as she ambled towards the fridge to take a bottle of milk. They were both similarly two peas in a pod except for Li Xiao's overbearance and Li Sun's ill-temper.

The stilling gray-blue ocean eyes that consumed your soul into an unknown valley, the plump red lips that tempted anyone who laid their eyes on them, the porcelain skin that was flawless like pure jade and the gentle temperament that sipped through the cold facade made the people around them wobble with conflicting emotions.

Pouring herself a cup of milk, Li Sun shrugged her shoulders. "Why do you want to know? Mind your business, Li Xiao," she stated bluntly. Li Xiao's blood sizzled in his veins like a volcano that's about to erupt. He made a tremendous effort to kept his temper in check. It was probably best if he controlled himself than to lash out at her.

"Li Sun, mind your mouth. Also, heat the milk before you drink it or else you will have a stomach-ache," he said calmly, swiftly taking away the glass of milk from Li Sun who was now burning with rage.

"Will you please stop?"

"Hm? Stop what?"

"Stop trying to replace them."

"Replace them? What are you talking about, A-Sun?" Li Xiao asked with his back turned on her. He stopped his motion and sighed. He knew exactly well how it was to be like and how it was going to end like with all of its twins and twindles. It always ended with the both of them pantry at each other.

It had always been like that since both their parents died seven years ago. Their father was the first to leave them after he was brutally sucked dry by those bloodthirsty beasts. Hopeless and helpless from the sudden loss of her husband, their mother was bed ridden.

Maybe it was a trick from fate twirling with their emotions like a spinner, scavenging their souls like a demon, threading the remaining hope in life that had been illuminated by a dim light that looked like anytime its glow would just fade away, it took their last alter ego.

She was murdered the same way their father was, sucked dry until all the blood vessels were empty. After that heartwrecking loss of both their parents, Lu Xiao took it into responsibility to take care of his younger sister since he was a bit older than the nine year old Li Sun who looked scared and lost.

After all, the so-called good relatives of theirs abandoned them ,leaving them with only threads of ill-stared glances. What else could he do except act out as the parent when they had no shoulder to cry on and a soul to relay on?

Taking such a big responsibility at such a tender age, the parent habit grew into character. No matter how hard he tried to wipe out its traces it always had a way of coming back to him. It couldn't be helped. Sadly, Li Sun never understood his sacrifices neither did she want to know them.

"I hate that part of you ,brother. I hate the slave in you. So what if you're older?! It's merely a two year age difference so why .........Why are you like this?! Can't you at least be selfish for once and do what makes you happy?! Why are you a slave...." The tears were flowing freely on her cheeks, blurring her misty vision. She bit her lower lips to avoid the miserable, ugly sobs that were crocking at her throat. Wiping away the tears from her eyes, she looked at her brother with a mocking smile.

"I'm going to the Karaoke bar that has been opened, big brother," she said, walking out of the house without another word.

Li Xiao glanced at his watch and frowned. It was almost past midnight and the curfew had already started yet Li Sun was not yet back from wherever she had wandered off to. The vampires had been causing a lot of trouble for the werewolves and also the petty humans. Not only have they been lethiferously drinking the werewolf blood but they also had the audacity to kill most of the werewolves on no account.

A few weeks ago nine teenage werewolves were found dead. Surprisingly there were no bite marks only a few scratches from razor sharp claws. The cause of death was not revealed but it was quite obvious as picks Jeff that the coldblooded devils had done it.

Deeply oceaned in his thoughts, Li Xiao was brought back to reality by the vibrating ring of his phone. Snatching it from the table he swept his eyes over the screen and his expression softened a little.

"Zhang Kee, why did---"

"A-Xiao ,is L'Sun at home?" Zhang Kee asked hurriedly cutting edge of Li Xiao's greeting.

"No, why?"

"Where is she right now?"

"She said she was going to the Karaoke bar that has been opened," he answered quickly.

"Ditch! That bar has been set on fire by those beasts!"

"What?!" Li Xiao exclaimed the phone slipping out of his shaking hands onto the tiled floor. Scrambling for his shoes he dashed out if the house, running without destination, inflicting the physical pain into his muscles.

CHAPTER TWO

Three years later

"Is Li Sir in yet?" a young man around twenty asked, nervously glancing at the glass door that led into the bureau quarters. The VEB quarters was an oppressing gray, skyscraper building, abided with six floors. Each floor represented the status of the officer. The bureau was infected with allium sativam ward off 'rodents' as they put it. It was heavily guarded in and out by elite officers.

The youth heaved a nervous sigh before turning back to his paperwork that laid in heaps on his desk. His colleagues exchanged perplexed glances. Too suspicious. They nodded to each other and leaned across the other party's desk.

"Say ,Bai Lou, do you know something?"

"N-No! I don't know anything!" he answered hurriedly, burying his head behind the heap of paperwork. The other two exchanged knowing glances. 'Affirmative, he knows something!' They smiled ambiguously then shrugged their shoulders making Bai Lou a headed chicken within caged entrance.

"Then why are you nervous?"

"I'm not nervous!"

"I saw a man walk into the Chief's office. Like bloody hell, he was ripped and lalala," the female colleague said exaggeratedly, fanning herself as if she was actually hot.

"If you talk like that people are going to think that you're a dog in heat!" her partner teased, nudging her lightly in the ribs. The girl simply laughed like a lunatic, holding her sides as the laughter subdued into a hacking .

"They already say that so what's the use of worrying?" Bai Lou muttered stapling the papers he had finished writing. The girl looked at Bai Lou incredulously, scrutinizing him up and down. She held her hand on her chest and said dramatically, "Who are you? You must be the devil. Where is my sweet ,innocent Bai Lou?"

"Innocent my foot," the male colleague snorted through his nose. The two were about to argue more when Bai Lou unexpectedly jolted up from his chair like he had been placed on a heated plate. He drove his hand into a military salute and greeted the approaching figure with such respect that the other two's skins involuntarily pickled with goosebumps.

The two followed suit and saluted the man in front of them in unison.

"Good morning, Li Sir!"

The mentioned man barely swept a glance in their direction instead he just gave them a stiff military nod. They didn't take it personal since they were quite used to his cold persona. He was a man of few words, ambiguous and puerile and mysteriously cunning. He only spoke when asked to and he didn't look like he had much interest in social-interaction. 'A human rock' they called him.

Apart from his reason to why he joined the VEB they certainly knew nothing else about him. Of course he was infamous for never having a partner. Rumor had it that he turned them all down leaving the Chief in a helpless situation. The Chief could do nothing but accept his sentiment since he had filled a resignation paper. Alas, he worked alone.

A lone bird is an easy target for hovering wolves, wasn't he afraid of getting killed without a partner to watch his back for him in the field. Nobody understood his reasons and they were afraid of knowing them so they left the empty bowls to the wind.

He had an appearance of jaded lotus and his eyes although cold and distant had a hidden radiation of warmth and child innocence. In spite the lines of tension in his soul people found themselves helplessly attracted to him. Maybe it was the pureness of his frigid heart.

After Li Sir was completely out of sight and out of audible-presence, Bai Lou and his two colleagues huddled together.

"He's also headed to the Chief's office and the man that got in is not out yet. What do you think is happening, Little Bai?" the female colleague asked , looking above their heads towards the Chief's office where the door was closed shut. Bai Lou shook his head vigorously. "I don't know anything. I'm just as clueless as you're!" The girl squinted her eyes at Bai Lou whom now had a blanket of cold sweat covering his forehead. Her face had grown grim and the tension lines grew visible on her neck.

"Is that so? Fine then," she said shortly, nodding her head lightly as if she had finally understood. If the girl had planned on scaring the tiger by moving the mountain she had completely succeeded without doubt because Bai Lou blurted out suddenly, " I think it's Li Sir's new partner!" The girl looked at Bai Lou skeptically, her brows drawn in concentration. "Partner?" she asked ,dragging the word to make sure she digested the fish well than the fishbone.

Bai Lou knew that he was being suspected so he immediately defended himself. "I happened to have heard the Chief speaking to someone over the phone when I was returning the files to the File Storage room."

"What where you doing there and----"

"What time was it?" the boy finally chipped in after being in silence since the beginning of the conversation. Was this interrogation? Bai Lou balled his hands into fists and exploded. "Stop treating me like a criminal! Fools , am I not allowed to feel you in with the exact information?! That man is probably Li Sir's new and first partner!" He hammered the table with his fist, sliding back into his seat. The other two stood inn silence and no onr dared to talk.

There was nothing more to say.
