MEETING NEW CLASSMATES

( Note : I will be writing the story from Ella's point of view. So "I" stands for Ella )

Today is my first day at my new school. I am very excited to go to my new school and to make new friends. I am very nervous too. What if , by the time I reach the school , all my classmates become groups and I end up being lonely ? ( Groups - in classrooms, students with similiar hobbies or something else in common will immediately become friends and this results in formation of groups within a class ). Ok El ( talking to herself ), think positive and everything will be fine. Since it was my first day , my mom dropped my sister and me at school. After reaching there, I started looking around for my classroom. It was my first time at the new school. So I didn’t know where my classroom was. I asked around and and one student told me where my class was and I headed over there . When I reached the door , three girls were standing in a circle and were talking about their holidays. They were blocking my way. Suddenly, two of them saw me and I smiled at them. ( I might have looked like a fool to them as my smile is so awful. That is my perspective about my smile ). They asked the third girl to move. She turned around to look at me. When she saw me she said that the 9 th grade was the class next door and this is the 7 th grade. I was able to hear my heart being broken into pieces. Even though I was in 7 th grade I had the look of a older student. I knew that too. But this was the first time that someone had directly told it to my face. I replied to her with a fake smile that I was in the same class as her and introduced myself to them . They also introduced themselves too.The rude girl's name was Mia. After the small introduction ,I placed my bag in the classroom and the bell rang for the school assembly. All the students in the class lined up for the assembly and went to the school ground. After that all the new students were asked to come to the front. I went to the front. There I met a boy who was also a new comer( same class).I accidentally stared at him. I don’t know why and when the announcement started to begin the school assembly I came back to my senses. Thus began my new life at my new school.

Previously: Ella met a boy and unconsciously stared at him. Then the school assembly began.

The prayer began. After the prayer, all the new students were given red roses to welcome them. After receiving the rose , the boy and I sat down. The other new students were being welcomed and therefore we got some time in between. At that time I introduced myself and he also did the same. His name was Sam. He was not looking at my face when he introduced himself so I concluded that he was a shy boy. Before we could talk any further , the rose giving was completed. Then began the speeches. There were a number of speeches that if I had started a rosary , I could had completed 10 of them by the time the speeches ended. After the assembly, we went to our classes. Our class teacher came in and introduced herself. Her name was Miss. Lynn. She was a cute teacher . She was going to teach us English. After her introduction the new students i.e , Sam and I made ours. Then all the students told their names so that we could know them. After that it was time for deciding our seats. Our class teacher changed our seats and I had Mia on my left and a girl I didn’t know on my right. Later, we \(me and the girl I didn’t know\) slowly started a conversation . Her name was Jess. After talking with her for sometime , I understood that she was a nice person. I was starting to like my new environment.

Days passed. My life at my new school couldn’t be anymore peaceful. I became friends with everyone in the class. I learned everyone’s name.( There are only 25 students in my class ) . Jess was the person with whom I became most close. She was the type of person who was easy to converse with. So we became best friends. I wanted to get close to Mia. But I didn’t try doing it after I found out that Mia was the class topper . She was a typical bookworm and in the past few days I didn’t see anyone approaching her to talk. Different people would go to her and ask for notes or they would ask her help to clear their doubts. But I didn’t see anyone having a casual talk. So I thought she was the type of person who puts a distance between her and other people. Not only that, I was an average student and I was too carefree . I felt like my presence as a friend in her life would adversely affect her studies. So I left my mission which was to be friends with Mia.

One day, when Jess and I were eating lunch , I saw Mia eating all alone. I told Jess about it and Jess told me that she eats alone everyday. But it was the first time I noticed it. I imagined myself in her place and I felt very bad for her. I asked Jess to come with me. We both went near Mia and sat with her. She looked at us in surprise and the next moment she continued eating food without saying anything. After sometime, to break the silence, I asked Mia why she was eating alone. She said she didn’t have any friends with whom she could have lunch with. When she said it she was about to cry but she held it in. I felt bad for her. I told her that I wanted to be friends with her. When I looked at Jess, she also shook her head . Jess also agreed to try to be friends with Mia. Mia was so happy. That was the first time I felt that Mia was not trying to fake a smile. Seeing her smile, I also started smiling. Like this Jess, Mia and I became friends.
