Hi guys! My name is Tara Sharma, you can also call me Lexi. I’m the female lead of this
novel.
I am basically from India but I left my country after I completed high school and
went to USA for further studies. Yeah, at a very young age of 18, I went to a
place which was totally unknown to me, far from my family and friends. What
could have possibly forced me to do so? OR I went because I wanted to. What do
you think? But anyways, it’s a story for some other day.
I completed my graduation from MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and got a job in
Apple, the leading multinational corporation, in California. My life was set. I
worked there for two years, and I was completely happy in this new world of
mine; I was independent, I had no one to take care of and had a bunch of
friends; everything seemed so perfect, when this storm named “family” came into
my life.
It was just another day; I went to my office in the morning, worked my *** up as usual and
went down to the canteen to have lunch with my friends. There they were, Denver,
Gloria and Sonakshi; sitting at our usual spot, ready with food in their trays.
I had met Denver in MIT; he was my senior, Sonakshi is Denver’s colleague and
Gloria is my colleague; that is how we all met.
I joined them in a while, after getting myself a tray full of the tasty food in our
canteen. As I got into their range of sight, they all start looking at me
hopefully like they wanted me to agree on doing something I’d never want to do.
Pretending to be scared, I ask them, “What is it?”. Before Denver or Gloria
could say something, Sona (nickname for Sonakshi) jumps to hug me and says, “I
finally got my transfer orders. I’m going back to Delhi, to India.” I hug her
back saying, “That’s amazing. You finally got what you wanted.” Looking that
I’m so happy, she says faking a sad dramatic face, “Are you happy now? Now that
I’m leaving?”. “Nooo, that’s not it.”, I say joining her in the drama.
Suddenly, Denver pops between us saying, “Prove it then”. Its too late when I
realize that I’ve fallen into their trap and I’m left with no choice but saying
yes to whatever scheme they’re up to. Tired of extending the drama anymore, I
say giving up, “Okaaayyy, what do you want me to do?”. Excitedly Ria (nickname
for Gloria) takes my hand and drags me to the table to take a seat and starts
explaining me, “We were thinking if we also went to Delhi with her and had some
fun with her before she starts her new life. You know, it’d be a perfect
farewell and we could also relax together; away from all the stressful working
conditions. Soooo, what do you think?”. Before I could even give it a thought,
my phone started to ring, showing up a name which left me totally shocked. I
didn’t understand if I should be happy or sad. It was no one else but my mom,
who had not even texted me for almost five years was calling me out of the
blue.
Here's a quick questionnaire for you.
Why has Lexi and her mother not talked or contacted each other for five years? Why is her mother calling her now? Is her mother in some kind of trouble? Will Lexi go to India with her friends?
Feel free to answer in the comments.
Hey guys! This is the author. I'm newbie in this field. This is my first novel so I'll need many feedbacks to know if I'm on the right track. Please do reply in the comments, even if it is good or bad; a thumbs up or thumb down could also work. Thank you for reading :))
I was totally nostalgic when I saw my mom’s name on the phone. Distancing myself from
the crowd, I picked up the phone and heard a voice calling my name, it was my
mom. She was weeping, her voice was wavering now and then. She was saying, “Tara,
please comeback. Your dad had brought a mistress back home a few days ago;
with two kids of your age, a girl and a boy (twins). At first, I never thought
it was a problem but now, your dad wants to divorce me, to marry that witch. He
has also tampered with your grandpa’s will, and we will have nothing left to
ourselves according to that will.” Before she could say anything more, I say,
cutting through her words, “You never even thought of me for these many years
and now when you’re in trouble, you want me to help you.” “No! It’s not like
that. Not a single day has gone without me missing you.”, she says. Laughing to
myself, I reply, “You missed me everyday but never even called me or texted me.
Anyways, are you done? I’ve to go.” She says desperately, “I know I was wrong. If
not for me, at least think about Roro.” Listening to that name, I didn’t know
what to do. Frustrated, I hang up the phone without saying a word.
I always remember the day when I met Roro. It was maybe the most beautiful day in my
life. I just couldn’t stop myself from loving him at the first sight.
[Author: It is not exactly what you think. Roro is not her lover or something.]
A few days before I was supposed to leave for USA for my first year in MIT. My grandpa, who was
the most kind and generous man in our family, had brought a new born baby
home and asked my dad to adopt him, that baby was no one else but Roro. My dad
had no choice but to do whatever the old man says. So, he adopted him. The old
man named him Rohan, and I gave him a nickname Roro. In those few days, it
seemed like we had bonded with each other pretty well. Even though he was just
a baby, we were both ATTACHED to each other. Now he must be almost 7 years old.
I always used wonder how he must be, how does he look, etc.
I had finally decided, I’d to go back....... for Roro; after all Roro was innocent. I decided
that I will go back and bring Roro to California with me.
I go back to the table, where me and my friends were sitting in the canteen. They all look
up to me, waiting for an answer and I say, “Yes, of course we are going. I badly
need a holiday from all this work.”, acting as if I’m very tired of work and really
needed a holiday.
Everyone was looking at me, shocked because I never agreed to go to India even while joking.
All of a sudden, they all jump on me, for a group hug and say, “I can’t believe
this. It was so easy to convince you.” Sona whispers in my ear, “Thank you so
much. I know you are doing this for me, even if you didn’t want to. I love you
sooo much.” Confused what to say to this, I reply, “I love you too.”
Today’s questionnaire.
Will Lexi be able to take Roro away from her mother? What all fun and problems are waiting
for Lexi in India? Where is the male lead of this novel? Is he in India?
Please do reply in the comments, even if it is good
or bad; a thumbs up or a thumb down could also work. Thank you for reading :))
Me and Gloria, we both live together coz Gloria is an orphan and as you know, my
family is in India. So, we both are family for each other. Not only Gloria but
Denver and Sonakshi are also my family.
We all gathered at my place to do some planning for this trip of ours and distributed
work between us. After hours of discussion and argument, we decide that we
won’t schedule our trip and do what that exact moment wants us to do; in short,
we just go with the flow. I’m supposed to book our flight tickets, Denver is
supposed to book hotel rooms and Ria is supposed to apply leave from work for
all us. We didn’t assign any work to Sona because she already had enough of
packing to do.
The night after three days, there we were, at the airport; waiting for Denver who is late as
usual. “Is he a girl? I just don’t understand, if we girls can be here before
time. Why can’t this fool be here?”, says Sonakshi. Just when Denver comes
saying, “Sorry sorry. I’m really sorry. And before you all start lecturing me, I
should tell that we’d better start checking in before it’s too late.” We all
look at him, irritated and comment on he said, together, “Oh yeah?! And that’ll
be our fault. Right?”. Me, Ria and Sona, just start walking towards the
security checking, and don’t listen to what he says coz we knew it’d be some stupid
excuse for him being late. Denver takes a few long steps to catch up to us.
After we complete all the formalities and checking, we finally board the
flight.
It’s a long flight of 17 hours, so I decided I’ll have some fun, watch movies, play games
and then I’ll have long nap because it’ll be morning in India, when we land,
and I won’t have chance to take a rest. I didn’t even know what all problems were
waiting for me, so I’d better enjoy the time I have. After 17 hours, it was
8:30 in the morning when our flight landed.
Sonakshi is busy informing her parents that she has finally landed in Delhi and while utilizing
the time I and Gloria turn to Denver to ask the details about the hotels but he
ignores us and says, “Let’s have breakfast at the airport itself.” I was about
to say something when Sonakshi comes to us, “Done. We are free to do whatever
we want to do for these five days. These days, they belong only to us and one
can dare to take them away from us!!!!!”, she says shouting dramatically and
then there’s suddenly a change in the energy level of her enthusiasm, she says,
“But first, I need to eat something badly.” “I knew you would say that, the
breakfast is on me guys. Eat as much as you want.”, says Denver. I say
sarcastically, “Since Denver is being so nice, I’m gonna eat up all the food at
this airport.” Denver continues, “And if you’re not able to, you are gonna kiss
anyone or anything, I tell you to kiss.” I say, very confidently, “Okaaayy…...”,
everyone looks at me shocked, I complete my sentence, “……I take my words back.”
We all laugh as we head for breakfast.
An hour later, when we were done with all the possible madness we could do, we take a cab
and leave the airport to go to the hotel. Denver gives directions to the cab
driver according to his GPS and instead of reaching a hotel, we had reached a big,
lavish villa.
I was totally shocked but there was one thing which was more shocking, and that is, except
for me everyone looked happy, what I mean is I’m the only one who was confused.
Today’s questionnaire.
Why did Denver lead them to a villa? Why is Lexi the only one who is surprised? Are there
anymore surprises?
