Since When Were You The Villain?

Prologue Episode 1

Prologue Episode 1

"Oh, I got caught."

Especially beautiful night when the full moon rises.

Red eyes thinned.

The silhouette under the moonlight was stealthy and black as if it had melted into darkness.  And yet its presence was sharper and more intense than anything else.

It was breathtaking.

I shivered and eventually dropped a glass of water.  But in black leather-gloved hands, the cup with water fell before it fell to the ground.

"You will wake people up.  Sophie...?"

The corners of his lips gently rise.  Even in the deep night, his red eyes were shining exceptionally like fireworks.  But soon the gaze fell.

"It's okay.  My throat tingled.”

He brought the glass to his lips and drank the water I was holding.

The sound of swallowing water echoed.

Suddenly, the glass was completely empty, and only a few drops of water in the glass sparkled in the moonlight.

Very slowly he placed the empty glass on the patio railing, and I stood there and did nothing.

Then it came into my eyes...

I covered my mouth with my hands and looked at his waist.

Red blood flowed over his torn white shirt as if it were something.  He was injured.

Noticing my gaze, he pulled the black robe to hide the wound.

The cold sweat on his white forehead shone faintly in the starlight.

His slow gaze touched me, white.

"Well, Doc...!"

A strong force grabbed my wrist while I was belatedly trying to get up and run for the doctor.  It happened in an instant.  His body was dragged by an irresistible force and bit his lips.

The scent of familiar body and blood stirred and grazed the tip of his nose.  Black hair, grazed by the wind, tickled his cheeks.

His heart thumped as if to wake up the world.

My head was dizzy because of feelings such as surprise or fear.

Slowly he spoke.

"Forget what you saw tonight, Sophie."

A low voice, mixed with breath, came to the wind.  Gradually, the strength of his hand that held me slipped out.

and

Before I could catch him, he was gone like smoke.

I ran to the terrace railing and looked down, but all I could see was the dark moonlight.

But the bloodstains and the empty glass on the railing proved that what had just happened was not a dream.

My legs were weak and I fell.

There was a red mark on my wrist that he caught.

The rough heartbeat showed no signs of calming down.

"Me... Me... I was mistaken."

I got it wrong.

He wasn't a male protagonist...

~*~

- When I opened my eyes\, I saw an unfamiliar ceiling.

Too boring sentences, those boring and common scenes were a reality before my eyes.

The same 'incident'I've read thousands of times has happened to me.

My only hobby was reading web novels.

Even in a busy life, I collected a hundred and two hundred won and bought a few years of happiness in the belief that it might be a jackpot or fail.

I was immersed in almost every piece.

So when the 'event', which I have read millions of times in the novel, happened, I felt a subtle excitement rather than fear.

Every day, I wandered through typography, and what I imagined actually happened!

"Possession book", which is like an old-fashioned artefact.

'Yes.  Who would own a book, if not a fan of his own?'

I laughed into it.

Maybe I was waiting for this moment.

A day to get away from stuffy reality and live in a vast fictional world!

I couldn't just lie down with a pounding heart.

'When the owner opens his eyes, he has something to do.'

It is true that reading is the food of the mind.

Thanks to the indirect experience he had in reading web novels, he had the basic Book of Book possession in his head.

'Foremost, I need to know what novel this is and who I am...'

I woke up in bed and looked around.

'Anyway, there must be something somewhere in the room!'

As expected, an old mirror hung on the wall next to the bed.

Anyway, a person who is attracted to a book is obliged to look in the mirror and admire my beautiful appearance.

I woke up in bed to look in the mirror.

At the moment, his head pinged and his eyes darkened.

His body trembled, but he skillfully leaned against the wall.

This, too, was as expected.

'It's a possessed body, so I thought it would be this much.'

In general, possessed bodies are sickly or just over the threshold of death.

Orthostatic hypotension may appear, even if it is not incurable.

I took a deep breath skillfully and woke up.

Gradually, the field of view cleared.

As I turned my eyes to the mirror, I gradually revealed the appearance of 'I'.

In the mirror was a woman in her 20s.

Her light brown hair, green eyes, pale white skin, long and slender neck, bla bla bla...

It's so beautiful to explain, so I'm tired of explaining.

"It's true."

I have long faced unreal beings in the mirror.

As time passed, the embarrassment passed over my flawless face.

'Well then...Who are you?'

I really don't know.

Who do I own?  "I" in the mirror is pretty, but aren't all the main characters in the original novel pretty?

In addition, brown hair and green eyes are common, regardless of leading or supporting roles.

When I read hundreds of works a month, I don't remember exactly who it was in which work.

'You see, I'm not an obnoxious villain...'

Beautiful, gentle, but modest look.

In this case, in general, three roles can be inferred.

First the heroine.  It's not a gorgeous appearance, but it's perfect for a good starring role.

Secondly, the extras.  In the novel, the extras are pretty.

Or the third, insignificant villain, the role of pretending to be ingenuous and getting the main character into trouble.

I own one of the three ...

'How did the other owners look at their faces and guess what books they had...?'

More hints were needed.

At least the name " I " should be found.

I turned my eyes from the mirror and looked around.

Through a belatedly widened view, the old attic was visible.  Low, sloping ceilings, creaking beds without canopies, small desks and rustic wooden chairs, old-smelling bookshelves, low closets that can also be used as dressing tables.

'Where did the gorgeous aristocrat's room where the main characters used to go?…?'

It was a very poor environment.

But I was not disappointed.

'Yeah, for the main character, this uncomfortable environment was kind of like a setting.'

I proudly raised my hand to my waist.

I think I'm rather lucky, because it's not a bad director and an orphanage, a dark dungeon, a cold palace.

The original protagonist begins unhappily and ends with a happy ending.

'Isn't this the way to get a family, a castle, an empire?'

It is impossible for the main character holding the book to continue rotting in the attic.

I didn't have to worry because I know so well what the endings of most books are like.

Bad work with an ending is one-tenth, no, more rare than that.

'Well, by the way, someone needs to give me basic information...'

In most novels, the maid comes and says, ' Wake up, lady!'He says.

However, the old-looking wooden door was quiet from the old days.  The maid came to this attic and said, ' Lady!I don't think I'm going to say, ' Oh, my god.'

I nervously patted my fingers.

'Wait!'

My patience was too hasty to wait for the next character without conviction.

'It's foolish to just sit still and wait for the next part of the story to proceed.'

Like Koreans attacking the game with superpowers, began to actively collect information about 'I'.

After searching through the small attic, I found a diary in a desk drawer.

'This is it!'

Is there a better item than this to understand the situation?  I saw the name on the old leather cover of the diary.

[Sophia Fraus.]

It was my name.

And in the middle of the diary, a letter with the seal of the family.

[Count Fraus.]

'Then I'm a lady?'

I looked back at the shabby attic, where the ceiling creaked in the wind.

When I thought it was a collapsed family, I heard loud laughter outside the sunny window.

Looking out through a small window on one wall, I saw the garden of Count Fraus.

Unlike the old, shabby attic, the outer landscape was gorgeous and magnificent.  The lawn was wide enough for horses to jump on, and there was also a fountain that made a rainbow of sperm surrounded by flowers in full bloom.  The crest of the family on the large front door of the mansion was clearly like the crest of a diary.

In other words, it was not a situation where you could live in another room.

'I'm a little girl who lost a family...?'

Like Cinderella.

It was common for young children to be left behind in their families.

Honestly, how many heroines have been loved and happy since the first time?

'Then everyone is smitten, not just the male protagonist.'

Foreseeing an immeasurable future, he picked up his diary.

At that moment, something fell from the diary I was holding.

'Letter?'

I picked up a few envelopes that fell on the old floor.  The callers are all 'Sophia Fraus'.

It was a letter that 'I'had not yet sent.

'Was this letter 'I'going to send to the same person?'

The place of the person who received the letter was all with the same name.

[To Duke Killian Viprons Rivelon.]

As I read that line, my body shuddered.

Killian?!'

Episode 2

Episode 2

This is not the name of the male protagonist?

If you count the gloomy names in Loffan's novels, whether Kilian or Carlyle, there will be dozens.

Besides, it's a'princess'. The 1st rank of the South hero Ropan is North Gong, no matter who says it.

'Come! It's a male heroine!'

So the main characters of this novel are Sophia Fraus and Killian Bifrons Rebellon.…

Wouldn't it be hard to remember the contents of this novel if the name of the main character came out?

I scoured the wrinkles in my head and stared intently at the stationery.

But the ingenuous brain seemed reluctant to make a title.

'I read too many novels, so I'm not sure!'

How unhappy. I don't remember it well because I read it regardless of the hit or miss.

In the beginning, Sophia and Killian were common names in Lofan novels.

I was a lot embarrassed because I didn't remember the title, but I found composure.

'It's fine. There is big data based on a huge amount of reading...!'

Even if you don't remember every piece of work, the accumulated experience is alive! If you follow the formula of the Lopan world, there will be no big problem.

I reluctantly opened the letter. And after reading it a few times, I was able to quickly understand the situation of this novel.

[The Imperial decision led to an engagement, but they never saw each other. It seems to avoid me on purpose... ]

[I know my situation will be disappointing compared to the honor of the Duke of the Northern Territory. But I need this engagement. It's okay to get married and divorce...]

Contract marriage.

I shook my head at the apparent unfolding that made me sick.

Engagement arranged by the Imperial Court. Sophia wanted to escape from this old attic because of her engagement to Killian.

Conscious of the Emperor's orders and the Earl's wealth, Killian accepted the engagement.

But he was unmoved by his fiancée.

'It's common.'

The future was drawn as if it were in front of me.

After a gloomy marriage, Sophia decides to divorce him, and Killian will be like a beast.

"You can't go anywhere."

The first unwritten rules of romance novels.

The divorce proposal was the starting point of marriage.

From it, the obsession of a man will sprout, and a woman will find true love!

'Well, North Korea does not tolerate divorce!'

He threw the finished letter into a desk drawer and prophesied like Nostradamus.

However, I am deeply reflecting on these 'hasty generalizations'in the future.

Knock.

There was a loud banging on the attic door.

I hurriedly put the letter in the desk drawer and closed it.

I didn't answer to come in, but the door opened.

When I looked up, a woman stood in front of the open door.

'Is he the first character?'

She was a maid in a black dress, a white apron, and even a ruffle braids on her hair.

"Eat it."

The maid placed the tray on my desk.

I put it down so hard that the contents spilled a little inside.

At the attitude of the rude maid I slightly frowned.

The bowl on the tray was filled with cold, dilute soup, and the bread, hard enough to compete with the rock, was growing a dark blue mould.

and…

'That's not pepper sprinkled in the soup... Is it Paris?'

I rubbed my eyes and looked at the black dots on the soup.

Traces of small wings and legs were sharp.

'Haha, it's disappointingly boring...'

I shook my head.

This is because I have seen so many scenes where the heroine is ignored by the servants in the house.

I sighed and got up from my seat.

First, let's start with the name of the character?

"You, what's your name?"

When I asked, the maid snorted.

"Jenny."

It was a maid who made her name clear.

I could hear the backstory, " What would you do if you asked me my name?"

Jenny's imposing attitude briefly scratched her forehead. Even if it is a common deployment, the maid's attitude is annoying.

"Yeah, Jenny."

I picked up the tray and approached Jenny.

"Did you bring this to eat?"

Jenny shrugged and smiled as I held out the tray and looked at her.

"Confident. It is my job to take care of Mrs.'s meals. Anyway, I lost on the last bet.”

"Bet?"

"The fact that you will be engaged to Duke Rebellon. Oh, just because you're engaged doesn't mean you want to be treated differently, right?"

Jenny chuckled.

Originally, Sophia was engaged to Duke Rivelon, but she never saw his face.

According to her letter, she was engaged to him for about a month, but Killian never visited her.

“If you want to be a master, marry the duke and go there. Oh, well, I don't know if the duke will make you a hostess."

Jenny was sarcastic.

She seemed to think that if Killian married me, there would be another government.

I was much sorrier for Jenny.

'What are you going to do later?'

No matter how you think, it makes no sense to ignore the daughter of the family, even the duke's fiancée.

Of course, Cinderella's persecuted banality tends to dispel that ignorance, but…

"Ask me one thing, Jenny.”

I didn't want to deal with a rude maid, but I had one question.

"Why should I, the daughter of Count Fraus, be humiliated by a man like you?"

Even the letter did not explain why'I' was unhappy.

I was sure housekeeper Jenny would tell me about it.

Because she was the first maid to appear, there will be the most appropriate source of information about the background and situation description.

And she didn't beat my expectations.

"Daughter of Count Fraus?"

Jenny laughed for a while.

"Did you really think so when I called you Lady!"

The longer her smile, the thinner my eyebrows.

"Why laugh?"

"I'm sorry that your master is good-hearted. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here."

Jenny blasted Sophia's background information.

Sophia was originally the daughter of Count Fraus and his ex-wife. However, after the death of his ex-wife, the earl married a young and beautiful new wife and gave birth to a son.

'Cinderella Story'didn't go as far as you'd expect.

The only difference from it is that the stepsister turned into one younger brother.

"You should know. I skipped laundry and cleaning for several days under the excuse of being sick. Did you think you'd get it right here?”

Jenny smiled with thin, bent eyes.

Originally, Sofia seems to have done chores like a real Cinderella.

'Okay.'

He nodded slowly, getting the desired information.

"Yeah, you're right."

I held a bowl of soup in one hand and smiled.

Now that she's done what she's going to do, it's my turn to do the next episode.

"As I said,I should have known."

At the same time, I poured soup on Jenny's head.

"Oh!”

Jenny shuddered and screamed.

Soup fell on Jenny's hair and face.

In the middle of the broth, a black substance the size of a grape egg was visible.

'Oh, it wasn't just Paris, was it?'

I didn't look closely, but it must have been a dead cockroach or spider. Jenny was terrified and tried to get rid of the disgusting worm.

"What is this!"

I didn't know what to say, and I shrugged my shoulders.

"...seasoning?”

"What?"

"The person who owns the book is obliged to give the reader a little spice."

I smiled and tilted the bowl I was holding over her head so that a drop of soup would fall on her.

"I think I've been too quiet so far.”

An empty bowl was placed over Jenny's head like a hat.

Jenny shivered, wiping the broth that covered her face with her apron.

“Is it a good thing to leave your daughter alone because your ex-wife is dead? Is my new wife discriminating against me because I'm my ex-wife's daughter?”

I looked down at Jenny coldly.

She lost what to say.

You will be surprised, because if I had been Sophia, I would never have done this. When I read the letter, Sophia Fraus was an extremely atrophied and passive person.

But now, I, the owner, have come here.

"If you do this again in the future, you won't be able to do it, Jenny."

Don't forget the essential cliché of Ropan!

Episode 3

Episode 3

(TL/N: The novel seems to be mainly obsessed with the third-person point of view, so it will be unless mentioned separately.)

When Jenny cried and ran away, Sophia went in search of her stepmother, the Countess.

The mansion had several buildings for the countess.

Well-groomed gardens, exotic trees, ornate buildings, shiny roofs, gold ornaments.

'To give your daughter an annex attic in such a spacious place.'

Sophia looked around the mansion as if she was offended. Not yet familiar with the terrain of the mansion, she entered the large building in the middle.

When Sofia opened the main door wide, she caught the attention of the people in the lobby.

A reaction like a pierrot doll popped out of a surprise box.

But in their eyes the surprise soon disappeared and annoyed.

"What are you doing here?"

The maid frowned at her like a worm.

But Sofia asked, not noticing the cold attitude.

"Mother, where are you?”

"Mother? Your mother died, didn't she?”

There was a clear light of contempt in the maids ' eyes. But even this was so common that Sophia was not impressed.

"Not the dead mother, but the current countess."

"Here..."

"Sofia!"

Then a sharp voice sounded from behind.

At the same time, the maids, who were standing with the same momentum, leaned against the wall and bowed their heads.

That alone allowed me to know who the new person was.

'Lucifer's appearance in Satan's mansion...'

Sophia looked back, recalling the famous ambassador of a drama. Rosy red hair and a gorgeous dress in golden yellow. She was a beauty in her early to mid-30s.

'Countess Rubizella Fraus.'

Stepmother Jenny said.

And, according to the diary, she kicked Sophia into the attic.

If she had not raised her eyebrows and looked at Sofia, she would have admired her amazing beauty.

While Sophia was longing for a countess she had never seen before, behind her was Jenny.

'Did you tell her?'

A somewhat stupefied gaze, looking at her dissatisfied cheeks.

'I don't like mumbles, but thanks to you, I've saved you a lot of hard work.'

She did not wander through this huge mansion and found the Countess.

While Sophia was thinking, the countess opened her red lips.

"You're too sick to walk around, aren't you?"

Countess Rubicella came with a proud step. She was pulling down her long eyelashes.

She was a little taller than Sophia in high heels.

"Did Jenny pour soup?"

“It was more food waste than soup.”

"Food waste? Are you talking about my kindness that way?”

"Kindness... I think the words are wrong. I love this app but I can't wait to see if I have any problems with it.”

Rubisella's lips trembled at Sofia's profanity.

“And it's true that I was sick. How can a person's body be healthy by eating such food?”

"What?!"

"Oh, mixing worms in soup is something you can never do in this elegant mansion. Isn't it?”

Sophia said lamentably.

“He who indiscreetly defiles the name of the family must be punished. Did you ever bring Jenny here to scold her?”

Sophia continued to say shameless things. Then she wrinkled the face of the elegant and beautiful woman.

"How dare you..."

Oh, that ' how dare you;.

Sophia looked at the distorted Countess's face and took a deep breath as if she were bothered.

The pattern of the villain in the beginning is obvious.

"Don't you think you're going to slap my cheek in the name of education?"

Sophia's gaze was in the Countess's hands.

Then her hands, which she was about to lift, stopped convulsively.

'Villains...'

Sofia shook her head.

The countess's hand seemed to tremble. She felt helpless when the only way to express her anger was blocked.

Sofia, who moderately pressured her, again gathered the topic.

There was another reason why she came to her home to find the countess.

"Oh, and I'm thinking about changing that room because the romance of the attic is gone. Hot in summer, cold and noisy in winter,” he said.

Sophia stood quietly in the lobby and looked around the mansion.

"Fortunately, the house is quite spacious. There must be at least one room between them."

Then the countess twisted her lips and looked at him.

"My engagement to Duke Rivelon probably earned me a lot of confidence."

A lot of confidence?

"Someone from'Fraus' wants to use the room in the Fraus Mansion. No wonder...? Then she is the countess without the blood of Fraus."

"What? Does she want more once she's sick?!”

"That's right. She should have spoken before she was sick.”

"Your room is enough of an attic!”

The Countess's roar echoed in the corridor, and the air grew cold for an instant.

All the servants who had laughed at Sophia before kept their mouths shut and bowed their heads.

At the Countess's unanswered answer, Sophia heaved a deep sigh.

'Hey, it's impossible to discuss and agree with a villain.'

The countess said that no matter what happened, she would not give Sophia a good room.

The only choice left for Sofia was to save the room.

“If I come out like this, I'll tell people that I'm rude.”

As Sophia spoke, she made the count laugh at her pouting.

"Sofia. Are you calling it blackmail?”

The Countess, just angry, regained her composure and proudly raised her chin.

Sophia was a poor little girl with no connections. The countess also did not pay her debut fee under the excuse of illness.

In contrast, the countess was already active and influential in the social world.

Sophia will not be beyond the Countess's breath, no matter how she speaks.

However, Sophia looked up at the Countess with an elated expression.

"Do you think I can't?"

"Try it. Go out on the street and catch the beggar and complain.”

The countess laughed and swore that no one would listen to Sophia.

~*~

And exactly a week later, on the front page of the tabloid Weekly, the following article was published in large letters:

[Ladle! The Duke of Rivelon's fiancée is the Count's maid?!]

It took less than half a day for the rumour to spread to the system's social community. All Sofia did was send a letter. And the letter spread to hundreds of articles.

The headline article on the front of the weekly tabloid was the most subscribed article by the social aristocracy.

The countess was flooded with requests for visits from people who wanted to see if the rumours were true.

And there are rumours...

"Mr. President! from weeklies...! Haha, you've already earned it!”

Naturally, rumours spread to opponents.

The curly-haired knight, who ran to the office, stopped to look at Killian, who was staring blankly at the weekly newspaper with his forehead wrinkled.

A man sitting in front of a desk and pressing a pipe play.

He was the only grand duke of the empire and the head of the army, Killian Bipron Liberon, called the "Guardian of the empire" for the good, and the "Emperor of the Imperial Family" for the evil.

"Nick, why did my name come out in the weekly without me knowing?"

"Someone informed me anonymously.”

"Anonymously?”

Killian placed the weekly paper on his desk and opened his eyes.

The red eyes, hidden under long black eyelashes, slowly rose upward.

Nicholas, the commander and Killian's assistant, nodded and smiled an awkward smile.

"It's an unknown source, but why didn't Mrs. Shanelia come to check it?”

"Mrs. Chanelia ... loves trouble and gossip.”

Duchess Shanelia was a socialite queen who published a weekly newspaper. She was also fond of gossip and rumours that drifted to socialites.

She had an instinctive hunch that anonymous information would turn into a hot potato and attract public attention.

Thanks to this article, Shanelia's weekly magazine sold like fire.

"Spreading rubbish articles without knowing whether they are true or not."

"Haha... But when you read it, you have proof..."

"Evidence?"

What about this ridiculous bullshit?

At Killian's question, Nicholas bit his lip.

But what Nicholas said is not completely wrong.

If the rumour had been true, the Duchess of Shanelia would not have published it in a weekly newspaper.

Even if she put out the article, if it wasn't valid, it wouldn't have been such a problem.

But when I read the article, it was pretty plausible.

[It has been our long-standing question whether Count Fraus hid his first daughter from debuting in society.]

[My wife actually saw Sophia, and her looks were shabby and her eyes unnatural... ]

[The fact that Killian Bipron Archduke Liberon never went to see his fiancée proves this.]

No one remembered Sofia. People knew roughly that Sophia was the daughter of the eldest daughter of the count's ex-wife.

However, the countess did not see Sophia with her before the people under the excuse that she was weak.

So Sofia's existence was gradually forgotten.

Hazy presence in society.

Mysterious person.
