We are in a fantastic world where every living soul knows that seeing a fish turning into a human and starting to walk next to humans isn't something out of ordinary. In this world there are magical creatures living everywhere: on the ground, in the sky and waters. Our story begins in the Empire of Waters where the mermaid people are living and waiting for the big day to come. That big day is the day when a next royal member will come into their world and share the burdens of their world with them.

In the sixth day of June, the queen laid a shining egg that was going to hatch in seven days. Everyone was saying that it will be a prince because the colours of the egg were frequently changing but they were wrong. In the seventh day when the egg cracks a beautiful little girl comes out of it. It is a princess and they name her "Zhenzhu" or "Pearl". The mermaid people aren't disappointed by the gender of the child because in the royal family are only princes and she becomes the first princess.

Starting that day, Zhenzhu's days are a bliss because she's being pampered by everyone and grows up surrounded by a lot of affection and stories about the human realm. At scholar she learns for the first time that the humans have legs to walk on the ground and also that is possible for every inferior creature to gain a human shape after years of cultivation and hard training. That day she decides to have a dream, to reach the level that allows her to transform her body into a human shape. Zhenzhu is fascinated by her teacher's tales that is why she wishes to visit the human realm when she grows up. At the age of fifteen, she is already able to completely maintain a human body transformation for a whole month without changing back into a fish. She requests the permission to go to the human world from her parents but her request is not approved because she is still under the age of twenty, the maturity age for a mermaid child.The under water realm was in good trading relations with the humans but in the last years the people from the surface became greedy seeing the ability of the underwater people of producing high quality pearls, so they started to capture them and turn them into slaves.

The two worlds lost their trust in each other and the mermaid people started to see the humans as their number one enemy. Maybe Zhenzhu's dream isn't that easy to accomplish anymore but the burning flame inside her isn't extinguished by the conflicts between their nations.

(Will she be able to follow her dreams?)

After sixteen years old, Zhenzhu starts swimming at the surface when no one is around her. Here she finds small and wide beaches, trees, she sees mountains and birds on the blue sky.

Every detail is different from what she usually sees under the water. She often asks herself what is beyond the green trees, huge hills, tall rocks or imense mountains. The girl is well aware of the fact that the world doesn't end in front of these big walls that obstructs her view.

She sees many new landscapes that she wouldn't have been able to see under water and in a stormy day Zhenzhu finds an almost drowned teenager whose fishing ship is destroyed by the strong currents. At first sight, the boy looks dead but when she gets close to his body and listens to the slow beats of his heart with her tiny ears, she realizes that there is still live inside him.

Our heroine drags the unresponsive body to the shore and gives him air with her mouth (artificial respiration). In a few moments the body starts to respond and he wakes up puking a lot of water.

Zhenzhu gets scared by his violent movements in the attempts of coming back to reality and runs away. He shouts at her to stop but the only thing that remains in his possession is her medallion with a white pearl inside. The boy doesn't even have the chance to properly thank her for saving his life. He picks up the medallion and looks at it. For his surprise, he discovers the beautiful pearl inside and starts having strange ideas like: "what if I was saved by a mermaid?"

This though changes his life forever and his opinion about the people from the other realms.

The pearl was Zhenzhu's own tear that she shed at birth, a very important item for a person from the waters. These kind of pearls are the most beautiful and pure pearls that a underwater creature can shed (also the most expensive in the human world).

He was asking himself from where could that girl have taken that rarity but he will only find the truth later in the future.

The boy goes back to his world and when the shore is quiet Zhenzhu returns to search for her lost medallion but she can not find it, even though she is sure that it was lost there when he tried to stop her from running by pulling her hands.

She believes that he must have taken it but where can she find him now? Zhenzhu wants to recover her most precious possession at any cost, so soon after this incident she packs some things and runs from home leaving only a short message: "Father, mother, brothers, I must really go to the world from the surface, there's something I have to go there.I'll be back as soon as possible! Please forgive me, Father. (Your loved daughter and sister, Zhenzhu. )"

Once left from the depths of the water, Zhenzhu feels a immense emptiness in her stomach or better said in her heart but the things can't be reversed once the decision was taken.

She swims at the surface where the sun is brightly shining and transforms into a human. Her long-white beautiful legs could arouse the envy of any earthly woman, just like her long black and silky hair stuffed with hundreds of pearls. A heavenly beauty like her can catch all the attention in a crowded place full of greedy eyes.

She has no clue where to find the young boy but she believes that the nearby fish market could be a good starting point. Zhenzhu heard many stories about this place from her peers and even her teacher. They were saying that this was an important trading location for them and the people from the surface in the good old times but now the things have changed a lot.

Zhenzhu will experience this change on her own skin once she will go there and catch the attention of the greedy eyes.

As soon as she reaches the fish market, Zhenzhu starts asking the people about a boy with dark hair and eyes like the burning sun but no one knows this person. She later thinks that maybe he's not from this place but where could he have vanished in only a few days after the beach incident? He must still be somewhere in the vicinity.

The next day, a fatty middle aged man approaches her and asks her if she found that person, because he may have heard something a few days ago about a sunken ship. He tells her that a couples of days ago many people were searching for the magistrate's san who went out with the boat and was caught by the storm but no one found his body yet. If he's still alive, maybe he will go back home and she can find him there.

Zhenzhu goes where the fatty man told her to go but they say that their young master was swallowed by waters and his body eaten by fishes. Hearing these words, the girl tells them that she saw a boy with dark hair and gold eyes on the beach a few days ago and that he was still breathing. The people thank the girl and run fast to inform the membere of the family who were already preparing for his funerals.

She hears someone yelling in the inner yard:

" Stop, stop! The young master is still alive! Someone saw him on the beach. (the guard)

Are you sure? Who? (the magistrate)

I don't know, a girl. (the guard)

Bring her here, I will interrogate her myself! If she dares to lie, I'll skin you both alive! (the magistrate)

I will go, I will bring her to you my lord! (the guard)"

Hearing the part with "skin her alive", Zhenzhu gets scared and runs back to the fish market.

Here she wanders through the alleys many days in a row asking informations about the young boy but no one gives her an affirmative answer.

Her beauty is astonishing. At the beginning everyone believes that she's a very rich person, maybe related to the magistrate's family and no one dares to offend her but later a greedy eye surprises her crying and sees the pearls falling on the ground. The tears turn into solid shining balls that can satisfy even the most pretentious eye.

The greedy eye runs to tell the news to the fatty old man who happens to be a mermaid trader.

The stinking fat man grins his mouth to the ground and promises the greedy eye a fat reward.
