Prologue

Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, she tried her best to swallow her sobs. She wanted to leave. She wanted to run far away from here. She wanted it to be one huge lie.

But it wasn’t, the scene playing out in front of her eyes was real, and as she peeked through the crack of her bedroom door, she saw her beloved husband, bedding the neighbor’s wife.

She was heartbroken, everything was ruined. The perfect life that she wanted, that she visualized, was shattered. She couldn’t take it anymore, she slammed open the bedroom door, two pairs of eyes flitted over to look at her, and the pair scrambled to cover themselves. The two made many excuses, but she couldn’t hear anything, she was too upset to.

She grabbed an old suitcase from the closet and filled it with all of her belongings. She heard none of the pleads that screamed out for her attention. She felt broken. She left without a word, there was a cake on the dinner table, with a teddy bear set up next to it. On the bear were cheerful words, words that made this day so much worse. On the bear was these words, “Congratulations, you’re going to be a dad!”

She felt scared. She had no experience being on her own, she had no idea how to care for her unborn baby. She felt overwhelmed. How would she live on her own, how would she afford it. She felt alone. She wouldn’t pick up her phone, she just couldn’t listen to his voice again. She felt betrayed. She was determined to keep her child safe, and it would be just that, ‘her child’. A child of her own, they just came at the wrong time.

Her name is Sienna. Sienna is an intelligent person. One who wasn’t known to make many mistakes, which is why this situation is so shocking. She has always praised for her perceptive abilities, yet as they say, love is blind. She was blinded by her feelings for Lester. Due to her faith in the man she trusted so much, the man she was sure would never hurt her, she was left with nothing.

She had entrusted her future to him, making decisions for the good of the other, rather than pursuing the higher education she knew she could attain. She felt too many emotions to understand her own thoughts. All she could do was call someone she never thought she would speak to again.

Her father. Her father had disowned her long ago. He had given Sienna a choice, choose your family or your boyfriend. And she had chosen, only to regret it 6 years later. 6 years had gone by without any contact with her father. Dennis Poole had completely cut off connection with his daughter. And she now regretted her decision from all those years ago. But she was sure that her father might take her in, he was a huge softie after all.

“No.”

“What?”

“You heard me, I said no!”

“But dad-“

“Not a chance, I gave you a choice, your family, or that good-for-nothing. And we both know how that turned out.”

Sienna was stunned. She didn’t realize how deeply her actions had affected her father.

“Daddy I’m sorry, I made a horrible mistake and I’m sorry. I didn’t realize how right you were, I was a lovesick fool. But, but I can’t go back there, I can’t be around him.”

Sienna stuttered through her words as she tried to sort them out.

“Fine.”

“What?”

“FINE! You can swing by for a while! But we’re going to need to have some talks about this whole thing.”

“I love you so much, Daddy, I'll see you soon! Bye!”

And as she hung up the phone Sienna could have sworn she heard a soft spoken “Love you too” in the background.
