Forgetting The Bastard

1 - Have I really reincarnated?

Sylvia was a well-known honey trap artist. After being cheated on by her longtime boyfriend of four years, she pursued a lifestyle that brought down cheating spouses.
In her free time, though, she had a knack for reading.

“…Oh man, what is this story?”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She was scrolling through the online novel, frowning in disbelief.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“This story is literally a big mosh pit of cheaters.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“The female lead cheats on a perfectly fine man, and the male lead cheats on a softhearted woman.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She chuckled to herself slightly before scrolling further down.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“Well, it really wouldn’t hurt for me to read this.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“I have nothing better to do when I’m free anyway.”
Little did she know, reading the terribly written work would lead more disasters than she would’ve originally expected.
It all started on one seemingly mundane afternoon, a week after she discovered the story.
It felt like any other day. It was sunny, and everyone was going through with their own lives.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“Aw, man, this is so trashy. Did she really have to do that?”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She was reading the novella on her phone as she crossed the road.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
It was a long day with a client. She was glad to finally be able to go home and rest.
Driver
Driver
In the distance, a drunk driver was heading straight towards her.
Driver
Driver
“Lady! Look up…” His words were clearly slurred as he yelled at her, eyes widening as the distance between them grew closer.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She hummed softly, not realizing the truck in the distance until it was too late.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Once she saw it, Sylvia was instantly struck with fear, and so she froze in her steps.
Even if she didn’t stop in place, she wouldn’t have been fast enough to dodge the car entirely.
In fact, at best, she would have permanently went limp in both legs. Or Sylvia could have stayed in a vegetative state for… who knows how long?
Driver
Driver
The truck slammed directly into her.
Driver
Driver
“Oh god, oh god,” he cried loudly, driving away quickly. “I killed someone…”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She felt herself fade in and out of consciousness as more blood drained from her shattered body.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She felt that all the bones in her body were broken.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She couldn’t move her own body.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
…Not that she wanted to. Sylvia was too far dazed to even consider what had just happened to her.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She heard the loud screaming of others around her. Did she really… die?
Perhaps it was finally time for her to rest.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
But, as soon as the pain came to her, it disappeared.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Did she die? How come she still had a consciousness?
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
As any normal person would be, she was… confused.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Finally, though, she worked the courage to open her eyes. Sylvia was distraught and confused.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
When she realized her muscles could move again, she hesitated for a second.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
It seemed all the bones in her body were’t… shattered anymore.
It was warm, unlike the usually cool temperature during autumn. If anything, Sylvia almost thought it was summer.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
But, she didn’t have the heart to care. Sylvia had other worries.
Something was clearly wrong here.
Unknown Maid
Unknown Maid
“Good morning, my lady.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She flinched at the sudden voice. Turning her face towards the sound, she was face to face with a young girl in a traditional maid outfit.
Her hair was a dark shade of greenish cyan. She stood there by the bed, where Sylvia was laying on.
Unknown Maid
Unknown Maid
“Is something the matter, my lady?”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“…I’m sorry, who are you?”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She quickly sat up on the bed.
Unknown Maid

The maid laughed softly. “My lady, you must be in high spirits.”
Unknown Maid
Unknown Maid
“It’s not often you play jokes on me.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She glanced at the young woman confusedly.
Unknown Maid
Unknown Maid
She giggled slightly, sighing. “I suppose I’ll give into your teasing.”
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
“I’m Tamia Fawn, your one and only handmaiden,” she bowed. “Good morning.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Her heart dropped.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“You are… Tamia?”
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
“Yes.”
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
“Is something the matter, my lady?”
Tamia was the handmaiden’s name from the novel she read. Tamia was the servant to the lady engaged to the male lead.
If memory served right, that meant Sylvia is now the unnamed fiancée whom the male lead cheated on.
She was so irrelevant to the author that her name… not even her surname… was mentioned. Not once.
Even the handmaiden had a name. Although, it was only mentioned a few times in the side story spin-off.
The broken-hearted fiancée whom eventually died of poisoning… was never properly given a name.
It just goes to show how little the author cared for her.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“No, it’s fine.”
It wasn’t.
Why did she become a background character?
How did she become one?
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
“I’m glad to hear it. Shall I bring you your attire? Or would you prefer to choose your own clothes today?”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“…Mind if I have some time to myself?”
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
She nodded. “Call me when you need me, my lady. I’ll be outside your room.”
Tamia Fawn
Tamia Fawn
A concerned smile rested on Tamia’s face as she shot one last glance at Sylvia. She gently shut the bedroom door behind her.
It all felt too terribly real.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Since everything happened so fast, Sylvia had little time to realize where and how she was.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She looked around, her heart silently pleading to see any familiar items or things.
The room was incredibly large, with pricy looking paintings and a photo of a couple on the nightstand beside the bed she was in.
It was… Sylvia with some attractive man, who she guessed was the male lead.
Sylvia’s expression in the image was gentle whilst the man held her close.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She knew it wasn’t her. She had never seen that man in her life up til now.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
The only reason why she felt such discomfort was because how similar he looked to the male lead described inside the novel.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Upon closer inspection, there were faint golden letters near the bottom of the picture.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“…Sylvia Arista and Laurent Amos.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
“My name and the male lead’s.”
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She reached out, gently brushing her fingertips against the font.
The small bumps, the details in the picture. There was no way this was photoshopped.
There’s only one explanation.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
Perhaps she was dreaming.
Sylvia Arista
Sylvia Arista
She looked at her hands, the clock. Anything.
Not a single item was illogical or out of place.
Had she truly been reincarnated into a trash novel?
