Yes. I screwed up I guess...

Just as I opened my eyes I found an unfamiliar ceiling.

Beside me was lying a man under the sheets and god, he has his assets. Black hair with a tinge of blue in them. That face, god seems to have sculpted it as his special project, and is it his scent that I'm having? He smells divine.

Just as I tried to touch his face, a hand full of fur went ahead and tapped on his cheeck.

He opened his eyes. "What's the matter Lumina, good morning."

My heart squealed. Yes, cool guy, good morning...

The eyes that fluttered open were black, like the most beautiful and provoking night sky, it radiated with what I would call confidance. I could feel myself getting lost in the night....

But no...that's not it right now.

Sure as hell I have heard of people being trasported to another world after death. But why the heck do I have done that. I died a normal death, though it was stupid.

I remember slipping on my bathroom floor and hitting my head straight in the wall...

Now that's what I call a shameful demise.

I jumped off the bed and ran towards the huge mirror that was right at the rear end of the room. Climbing the chair before it wasn't that difficult, considering my height.

But the sight before me after I climbed was so much of a shock to me that I fell down again.

Who was that..scratch that. What was that?

Shaking off my shock I climbed once again.

Before me it was a small creature with shiny white fur which had slight brownish glow in them. It has two small wings on it's back and it looks...Cute.

Is that me?

I looked back at the human on the bed. He was clutching his stomach and had tears in his eyes. He was laughing hard.

"What's wrong with you Lumi. You are so not like yourself today. You even...fell down from the chair."

Yes. Laugh flower-boy. Laugh at my misfortune. I too am laughing at how god played the biggest prank of his time and made me a creature that even I don't want to know what I am...I just feel tired...

"Lumi..." I could see the human go all blurry...

"Lumina, You have to carry this responsibility till your death. Do you understand?"

Huh? It she talking to me?

A mesmerizing woman with hair akin to sunrays was talking to me. She had the most beautiful golden eyes I have ever seen. Not like I have seen any golden eyes before...

She was wearing a white one strap gown, it glistened with something similar to, fairy dust..?

Is she a fairy?

She looked shocked a moment. Then the next her eyes became colder.

"Who are you?" I could feel the pressure in her voice.

"Uh..me?"

"Yes you, where is Lumina."

"Who is Lumina..? I...I am...huh. Who was I again?"

"...You are not Lumina. Can you feel someone other that you inside yourself?"

"Lady, how is it possible..."

"Yes mother I am here."

Aacckk...where did she came from. The voice was coming from my mouth but I had no control over it..

"It looks like this poor soul has taken refugee in my body mother. Please don't be angry."

The grim look on that lady's face grew darker.

"Are you sure it won't bring you harm?"

"Yes mother. I will inform you if it does."

"That will be too late...let me help you..."

The lady kept one of her hand on my head and her eyes started glowing white.

Just as I was thinking this I felt dizzy and suddenly I felt something was being pulled apart from me. It felt a sharp pain in my head. I closed my eyes. It was like my mind was being seperated in two parts. One being me and the other...

A small creature with white fur. It was glowing. It smiled at me. Just as I tried to open my eyes the creature told me..

"Wait. Don't worry. I won't harm you. Mother is seperating my soul from you so that I don't get lost within your soul fragments. You have very high mana density you see. I am still small and unable to control my own mana."

"Mana? Who are you? Who is your mother? And why am I here?"

She looked shocked. "You don't remember?"

"Remember what?"

"The god didn't inform you about it?"

"God..?"

"Again. This god does whatever he wants.." she left a sigh.

"We are the Lumeras. We serve the Heroux Ducal family as their familier. My mother is the familier of the grand duke and I am the daughter of the Grand Lumera, that is my mother. I will become the next Grand Lumera after my mother."

"I see...but what am I doing here."

"Uhh..you see I'm not sure either. You were a wandering soul who had huge mana but...I felt like I needed you. So I took you inside me."

"...Somehow me too..It feels like you are my other half.."

"Yes. It does right? That is why I took you inside. we are both co-conscious right now...since mother has seperated our soul fragments. Ohh..mother..."

I opened my eyes and I saw the lady looking at me.

"Sorry mother. We got carried..."

"It's okay. I heard it. So you, you are not a soul from this world are you?"

"She is asking you..." Lumina whispered from inside.

"Uhm..yeah. I think so.."

"How did you get in this world?"

"I'm not so sure myself. I would very much like to know that too."

"Hmm I see. Since you had high mana density I had to seperate you from Lumina. You will be sharing one body but I hope there won't be any conflict."

"Uhhh..yeah. Sure. I'll try."

"Yes. Because you and Lumina both reside in the body that I gifted you. So your consciousness is linked to mine and I have the power to control you two since you don't know how to wield mana. Lumina."

"Yes mother." Lumina answered from within.

"I will be teaching you how to control and utilise the mana inside you and that person. Her mana is difficult to control since it is other worldly. But till then you have to keep her away from you. She is not like us and unlike us she can go berserk which will harm both of you. So until then I would like to take her conciousness away. If that is okay with you."

" Mother..."

"You know you have to do it. So talk it out with her."

Lumina looked at me. "Um..so you heard mother."

"Is she going to knock me out?"

"No no. It's just. She will be sealing you inside me till I am able to control both of our mana since our mana together is quite hard to sustain in one small body such as this if not controlled properly."

"So why won't she seal you instead of me?"

"That's because you don't have the basic knowledge of how it works...I think."

"...I see." Yes. She is right. I don't know a single thing about this world or this so called mana thing and above all...Lumina is her daughter where as I am only a wandering soul...

"No. you are wrong."

I looked at the lady.

"You are wrong to think like that. Lumina is not my child. She is an entity born from the strong desire to protect someone. It just so happens that I am the one who gave her the vassal she needs to grow herself. It's merely my duty as the familiar of ducal family."

It sounded kind of lonely coming from someone who is known as mother. I looked at Lumina. She smiled at me.

"I'll only be around to help until she becomes able to control her mana. After that both of you have to strive by yourself to evolve. That is one of the many duties you have as the Lumeras protecting this family.

We are being that only has one purpose. That is to fulfil our duty towards our masters."

Being able to look after the only person who brought us into being should of course be a matter of joy, but where is the joy in being a possesion of that person where you are only here to be used as a tool?

"...child. You don't have to unnecessarily empathise with us. It's not like we are forced. It's our way of showing the thankfulness and loyalty to our masters."

"...I see" I could only speak bitterly. I felt bad for Lumina for some reason. This whole time she didn't utter a single word.

Being a human I was used to things like interaction with other human being and on top of that being an extrovert had it's own perks for me. I could now feel that it really is over for me and my previous life.

And it hit hard...

Suddenly mother hugged us. I was shocked but looking at Lumina she didn't expect it either.

"We are Lumeras. We have pride as exceptionally capable protectors but we can not become selfish or arrogant for that.

No matter how hard we try we can never be the same as a human though we evolve to something similar to a human, like myself.

We have our birth and death both on the hands of our master or so I would like to say but in rare cases a Lumera can gather enough power to be free from it's responsibility and follow the path of an independednt being.

So don't despair just yet. Follow your duties. Have pride in your origin, your responsibilities and when time comes..."

She let us go and looked at us as if we were the most fragile beings.

"You will know what you have to do."

She kissed us on top of our head.

And soon I drifted off to sleep.

I opened my eyes. The boy was sitting beside me. Worry all over his face.

"...Lumina!!! Cathy come here and check her out...She is awake."

A maid came running towards me. She was shocked I could tell.

"Are you okay Lumi...I was so worried."

"Uh...yes I am okay."

"Huh...?" Both of them looked at each other surprised.

"What..?"

"...You can talk?" The boy asked.

"Yes I can. Why?" I was clueless as to why was he asking that.

"You didn't till yesterday...though you should have long ago."

"Oh...I see." Why didn't Lumina speak?

"Because I was incomplete without you..."

"Huh...? Lumina?" I saw her inside again and this time she looked bigger. Just like how we looked in the mirror.

"Yes. It's been a long time. Do you remember everything?"

"Yes, I do now. But why didn't you..."

"I'll tell you everything after you were put to sleep. First let's deal with the situation in our hand."

"Uhh I guess you are right."

The boy was still looking at us confused.

I let Lumina take control over the situation.

"It's just that the situation wasn't favourable for the required evolution and I just met the requirements yesterday."

"Oh...I see." He still looked skeptical about it. " Then can you already evolve to the human form?"

"No, not yet Young Duke."

"Okay" He patted our head. A gentle smile appeared on his lips. "Take your time."

"Yes Young Duke, thank you."

"You can drop the fomalities. You weren't this formal just a while ago."

"Can you take over?"

Lumina asked me internally.

"Yeah sure. But will it be okay to talk to him informally? I don't know how to be too formal with the duke in the way of this world."

"It will be okay. He is an idiot to begin with. Just don't piss him off."

Idiot...she called him Idiot.

"Pffft.."

"What's wrong? Did I ask too much of you?" The duke somehow looked intrigued.

"Uhm..uh no. It's okay. I'll try not to be formal..Uhm Young Duke."

Somehow Lumina looked like she didn't want to interact much with the Young Lord. Looks like She has had her share of troubles while I was away.
