*One night, Anni saw something at the main door of her house. It looked like a small white bundle of cotton. ANNI went near the bundle. It was a cute little puppy!

It had rained that evening. The puppy was all wet.

ANNI thought,"How cute this puppy is! It must be feeling cold here I must take it inside and keep it as a pet." She decided to ask her mother about it.

Her mother was in the kitchen. Anni ran up to her and asked,"Mummy, may I have a puppy as a pet?" Mummy was busy. She was making 'gulab jamuns' "Don't disturb me now I have to make many 'gulab jamuns', she said." Mummy, please, may I have it? Anni asked again. She stood at the door waiting for Mummy 's answer.

Mummy thought Anni wanted a 'gulab jamun' So she replied," Yes, you may have it. But be careful. Don't drop it."

Anni jumped with joy. She thought that her mother had allowed her to keep the puppy.

Shall I take it to my room? She asked again.

Yes, But don't take it to bed. You may dirty the bed And go to sleep now. It is getting late said mummy, still thinking that Anni wanted to take a 'gulab jamun' to her room.

Anni ran out of the kitchen happily. She picked up the puppy and took it into her room.

After some time, she again went to the kitchen and put one 'gulab jamun' into her mouth. Thank you, Mummy.Good night, Mummy, said Anni and went to her room to sleep.

At night, Mummy heard some sneezes from Anni's room. Perhaps Anni has caught a cold. I must give her some medicine, She thought.

She entered Anni's room and gently woke her up. Open your mouth, She said to Anni.

Anni was still very sleepy. So she silently obeyed her Mummy. As soon as Anni opened her mouth, Mummy put a spoonful of medicine into her mouth, and put her back to sleep.

In the morning, Mummy asked Anni How is your cold*?.

*Anni was surprised at her question she said I do not have a cold.

Don't you remember sneezing all night? I even gave you some medicine.

Oh! Yes, I remember you give me some medicine but I don't remember sneezing said Anni*.

*Suddenly, they heard some sneezes from under the bed. Mummy was surprised she looked under the bed to see who was sneezing what is this? she asked Anni when she saw the puppy

This is my pet dog said Anni proudly.

But how could you bring it into the house without asking me? asked mummy.

I asked you last night mummy and you had agreed you had also let me take it to my room said Anni, trying to remind her.

Mummy remember everything she said I thought you wanted a gulab jamun now take the puppy back to where you had found it*.

*Anni did not want to lose her puppy she said please mummy can I keep it ? I promise I will take care of it.

Mummy looked at Anni 's innocent face she agreed what are you going to call it? She asked Anni was ready with a name Snoopy!.

Isn't that a nice name?

Mummy smiled and nodded*.

***2. SNOOPY ACTS DEAF

Snoopy had become a lazy dog. He did not even like to go for a walk.

One day, he had a bright idea. He thought, "If I act deaf, I don't have to hear Anni call me for a walk. Then I can sleep as long as I want to."

So he started acting deaf. Anni went to Mummy and said, "Mummy, I think SNOOPY has become deaf. I have been calling him, but he does not hear me."

Mummy was surprised. "But he was fine till yesterday", she said and called out to Snoopy, but he did not hear her even after repeated calling.

Mummy and Anni were worried. "We will take him to the doctor in the evening", said Mummy

Snoopy was very happy. He slept all morning.

Mummy was in the kitchen. Suddenly a bowl of milk fell down from her hand.

At that time Snoopy was sleeping outside the kitchen. But before Mummy could clean the floor, Snoopy rushed in he licked quickly the milk and went back to sleep again.

Mummy call Anni in the kitchen."It seems Snoopy can hear again", said Mummy happily. "Go and call him for his food".

Anni called out, "Snoopy, come and have your food".

Snoopy came running. He was so hungry that he forgot all about acting deaf. Anni was happy that he could hear again.

In the evening, Anni called him for a walk. But Snoopy again acted deaf.

Anni now suspected that Snoopy was only acting deaf to avoid going for a walk. She thought of a plan.

Now whenever Snoopy was around, Daddy, Mummy and Anni acted as if they were talking. But there was no sound.

Snoopy could see their lips moving. But he could not hear anything. Even when Anni called him for his meal he could not hear her because she only moved her lips.

This went on for the whole day. Now Snoopy thought that he had really become deaf. He was sad.

The next day Anni called

"Snoopy, it is time for your walk".

Snoopy was very happy to hear her voice again.

He gave up his idea. Wagging his tail, he ran out after Anni.

CHAPTER 3

SNOOPY CHANGES COLOURS

"*Oh! How lovely the gate looks! It looked very dull when it was white", said Anni to daddy, when she saw the freshly painted gate.

Snoopy was standing nearby. When he heard this, he looked at himself

he also was white. That means even he looked dull.

He felt sad and went away from there.

Out in the fields, he met the cow, his friend.

"Why are you looking so sad?" She asked him.

"I wish I had some other colour Anni finds white very dull", said Snoopy.

Suddenly, Snoopy looked at the cow's tail and he had an idea. He said, "Your tail is just like a paint brush. Will you paint me with it?"

The cow also liked the idea.

Snoopy took the cow to a place where large cans of paint were kept. He asked the cow to paint him green. The cow dipped her tail into the green paint and dabbed it on him.

When the cow looked at Snoopy, she laughed. Snoopy did not like this. "Why are you laughing?" He asked the cow.

The cow said, "You look more like grass. Someone may eat you up. Shall I paint you red?"

Snoopy agreed again the cow dipped her tail into the red paint and dabbed it on Snoopy, who was soon red.

Just then a butterfly flew by. Snoopy asked her, "How do you like my new colour?"

The butterfly said, "Oh! It looks fine. But you are not as colourful as I am". Saying this, she fluttered away proudly.

"Anni also likes butterflies", thought Snoopy.

"Dear cow, why don't you put some different coloured spots on me? Then I'll look more attractive", said Snoopy.

The cow dipped her tail into cans filled with different colours and put blue, orange and yellow spots on Snoopy.

This time Snoopy was sure that everyone would praise his new colourful looks.

He went to the pond and saw swans to were swimming in the pond. He asked them, "Do you like my new look?"

One of the swans said, "You don't look like a dog look how nice our white colour looks!"

Snoopy looked at he reflection in the water. He realised that he looked very funny Snoopy was sad. He sat there sulking. In the evening, he returned home.

At home, Anni was worried about Snoopy. When she saw him, She was surprised. "When were you the whole day? What has happen to you she asked.

Snoopy hung his head sadly.

Anni gave him a good bath when she had finished, she looked at him and said, "How wonderful your white fur to looks! With all those colours, you looked like a big ugly butterfly.

Snoopy agreed he said, "bow wow, wo".
