Six *years ago
The sun was out shining brighter than ever. It was finally summer. Jim had so many plans with his best friend Khloe. All the fun adventures they would have at the beach and many banana smoothies they could drink. Jim got out of bed excited. Jim was a fairly thin boy with black hair and honey brown eyes. He wasn't a crowd favorite and was the shortest in his class.
He ran out of his house and heading across the street to where Khloe lived. He rapidly tap on the door bell like there was no tomorrow.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" yelled Khole.
She opened the door with a big smile on her face. Khole was a thin girl with brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. She looked a little older than her age and boys would crowd her everywhere she went.
Suddenly, she frowned realizing Jim was still in his pajamas.
"Your supposed to be ready, the pool opens in 30 minutes, you know how crowded it gets!"
Jim looked at her in confusion, "I thought we were going to the beach instead."
Khole stared at him intensely, he stared back. They made this game of staring contest up ever since they were five, to see who's idea was better. Khole and Jim never really agreed with each other on everything except for the fact that banana smoothie was the best drink. Ten minutes has past and still no one blinked.
"Smoothies are ready!" yelled Khole's mom.
Khole and Jim broke eye contact. They both looked at the kitchen then back at one another, each having a devilish smirk on.
"Winner gets to choose the place," said Khole while sprinting towards the kitchen.
The day flew by quickly, filled with fights and laughters. Summer was going to be great, Jim thought.
The next day Jim woke up at one in the afternoon feeling tired. Yesterday sure was fun that it drained all his energy. He then realized he missed beach day with Khole. He had never missed any events they had planned. He anxiously ran across the street to Khole's house, but things weren't the same.
Nobody answered the door. The house was completely empty.
"Come on, this isn't a joke," Jim said frustrated. Reality then came hitting him right in the face.
"she left!"
He fell to the floor crying. He wondered if it was his fault for waking up late. He wondered if he had woken up early, things would change and Khole would still be there. That day he promised himself never to be late, ever.
He went back home, wiping away the tears. He didn't want to be seen as weak in front of his mother, she was the only family he got after his dad left them for a mistress.
"Oh honey, I forgot to tell you, Khole left a note. It's in your room." His mother yelled from the living room.
Feeling sad and angry, he ignored his mother's words and headed upstairs. He took the note and stared at it.
"how could you!" he screamed at the paper. "you promised, you promised me!"
Tears filled his eyes once more. Jim crumpled the paper and threw it across the room. That summer he stayed up in his room and swore to never love summer again*.
Present Day
"JIM! JIM! Don't let me come up there!"
Jim stared at himself in the mirror, amazed at the uniform he is wearing. Jim had decided to get a job during the summer and applied at StarBills. He needed the money for college and because he had nothing else to do.
"You look good," Jim said to himself. He changed during the years. He has a well built body shape and grew taller, standing at six feet.
"Oh my, my baby is growing up so fast," his mother said standing at the doorway. She walked towards Jim and adjusted his tie.
"Come on mom, I'm going to be late!" He brushed passed her and headed downstairs grabbing his keys.
"Come on, can't a mother feel proud for her son." She said following right behind him.
Jim turned around placing a goodbye kiss on his mom's forehead. "bye bye mama, see you tonight." He then left instantly.
"Teenagers these days, never learn to just stop and admire the present before it goes away." The mother sighed and headed towards the kitchen.
