Taekook's Dna

chapter 1

"Kookie, relax."

"I'm relaxed." Jungkook said but Taehyung shook his head.

"No, you're not. Stop shaking your leg, babe. Stop being so nervous, everything will be fine."

"What if they don't like the song? What if they don't like the story we're telling them? After all-"

He stopped and even without words Taehyung understood his concern.

After all, this was their story - a story wrapped up in the lyrics and made such that a common listener might think it was a romance between a girl and a guy.

But to anyone who looked closer, they would know the song wasn't gender specific. They would know it could be the love story between a girl and a guy or a guy and another guy or between girls for that matter.

Namjoon being the genius lyricist, had incorporated such gender neutral lyrics in the hopes of telling Taehyung and Jungkook's feelings - if not in the public via media, then as a song.

That's what Namjoon had said, Taehyung recalled.

"I have had enough." He had said one day, coming into the room where Jungkook and Taehyung were sitted, holding hands after having to stay separate for the whole day.

They both had been surprised to see thier leader looking so frustrated.

He usually kept a cool head, and never resorted to aggressive display of emotion. But that day had been different. The way Jungkook and Taehyung had been kept separate throughout the day had grated in his nerves and he had told them the same.

"It's not fair, you know." He had said after a tense pause. "Why can't you be together in one frame? It's not like you're going to end up missing each other by the end of it. Couldn't they just allow you to be friends in front of camera, instead of cutting your moments every single time?"

His questions held truth to them, but neither Taehyung nor Jungkook had answers to them.

Namjoon wasn't actually looking for ansers, infact to their surprise, he had come to their room to announce his plan for the next song.

"I wrote a song for you guys." He had said.

It wasn't the first time he wrote a song for them, so Taehyung didn't quite get what he was trying to say, until he read the lyrics.

"This...-" he knew he had tears in his eyes, becauee kept patting his back, as he held the music sheets in his hands.

"This is about us...?"

"Yes, and no." Namjoon said with a slight infliction in his voice. "The story is about you, but it doesn't point fingers at you."

"That was a smart move, Rapmon hyung. Thanks." Jungkook said with a smile and Namjoon nodded.

"I wanted to push it through, the song...and I didn't want it to get rejected. I even talked with Bang PD-nim about this."

"You did?" Taehyung couldn't have been more surprised. To think that Namjoon took thier case up to the big man, it was unreal.

"It's not like he likes keeping you guys separate." Namjoon said after a pause.

Taehyung couldn't help rolling his eyes at the sentence. "I know... I know. It's for our better future, for our career that we can't reveal the relationship. I'm aware. But the staff -"

"Yes." Namjoon had caught on to what he was trying to say. "They could use some advice on how to go about things without making it seem as if they want to break your friendship."

"Yes. I wish they weren't so...strict?" Jungkook whispered.

"PD-nim is also responsible for this." Taehyung added.

"Not really -" Namjoon said before Taehyung could continue. "I think because he has been so busy with the promotions, he hasn't had the time to look after the new staff. And we'll, you already know how they are."

"If the plan is to keep you separate, they'll do it no matter what."

"Ugh! I hate this." Jungkook whined, to which Namjoon had chuckled and said. "Well atleast you have a new song to look forward to."

"That's something."

"True." Taehyung had agreed and knew the song would be another beautiful masterpiece.

And he was right.

DNA had proved to be more then just a beautiful song. They had a bright and colorful music video to go along with the song, which had Taehyung and Jungkook sharing the screen for quite a few sequences.

It made Taehyung happy at how the song had shaped out.

But Jungkook... Jungkook had grown cold feet ever since they had announced the release date of the song.

And now, as they waited to the fans reactions, Jungkook was even more restless and it was making Taehyung question his faith in their fans. Was it too much? Will their fans not like what they see? Will they not like the lyrics about Taehyung and Jungkook's love?

More questions, but zero answers and Taehyung's head throbbed in time with the ticking of the clock overhead.

Suddenly, the studio felt stuffy and Taehyung didn't know whether he was actually feeling under weather or Jungkook's panic had tainted him as well.

The wait was slowly becoming unbearable.

Two sets of eyes were fixed on the screen where the DNA music video had just been uploaded on Youtube. They waited...

And waited...

chapter 2

And they waited...

Taehyung and Jungkook huddled together over their phone watching the minutes tick by as the music video of DNA was released worldwide, and the first trickle of comments filled the screen.

'Oh! This is a good song.' one of the fan comments read.

"Good song...?" Jungkook murmured, and Taehyung watched the white reflection in his eyes. His gaze was glued to the comments, but even when the fan said it was good song, he didn't seem to be believe it.

"What's wrong?" Taehyung asked. "They said it's a good song, Kookie. They like it."

"I know." Jungkook said, but there was no smile on his face. Taehyung didn't say anything and went back to watching the comments pop up on the phone screen.

"Omg! Is this what I think it is?" one of the comments read, and Taehyung felt Jungkook tense beside him. He knew the maknae had seen the comment, because it was the only one that glared at them, written in highlight and a weird font, grabbing their attention at the first glance.

On one side Taehyung was a little happy that the fans had noticed, but on another side he was worried that they wouldn't accept them, atleast not in the way Taehyung and Jungkook wanted them to. As for Jungkook, he still hadn't said anything about the comments. He just kept reading the reactions, and the look on his face was slowly turning into a gloomy one.

Taehyung couldn't understand why it was affecting Jungkook in a negative way. Why wasn't he happy?

"They seem to have figured it out...so quickly." he whispered, but didn't meet Taehyung's eyes. "But do they really accept us, Tae?"

It was the question that kept bouncing around in his head, and Taehyung was still searching for the right answer. "I'm not sure." he said, going for an honest reply.

He couldn't pretend that everything was rainbows and sunshine about their fans reacting to the musci video.

As more comments were posted, some enjoying the music video because of it's vibrant and colorful vibe, while others liking the lyrics but not jumping too deep into the song, and there were those rare fans that had begun to disssect the song and the real story behind the song - and these particular bunch of fans were what took more of Taehyung's concentration, as he watched them post lengthy analysis below the Youtube video.

"This is not what I wanted." Jungkook said after staring at the phone screen for the past thirty minutes. Taehyung had gotten up to grab a drink, but before he could drink from the bottle, he heard the sadness in his voice and rushed to Jungkook's side.

"What happened?" Taehyung asked. "What does the comment say?"

"This is not we wanted...Tae."

An irrational fear gripped Taehyung's heart. He hated the sound of defeat in Jungkook's voice.

"Show me." He grabbed the phone from Jungkook's hand, before the other could stop him, and scrolled to the comment.

'After reading the Taekook analysis, I do believe that this is their story. I think DNA portrays a gender neutral love story, but -'

Taehyung's grip on the phone tightened as he read the next words. 'But I don't think I can support them being together. I mean I'm all for shipping Taehyung with Jungkook, and I like the other members too. However, let's be honest here guys. If they're actually gay and are in a relationship, I think I won't like it. Ships are a different thing, but if this happened in real life, I don't think I would support it. It would be weird.'

"Weird...," Jungkook muttered beside him. "They think our relationship is weird? Really? This is the homophobia inside them talking."

Two seconds ago, Jungkook was emotionless but now his face was red and his lips were stretched over his teeth in a thin line. His hands curled into fists, trembled at his side and Taehyung put down his phone, reaching for the boy. "Hey...calm down." he said and rubbed his back, which was stiff with tension.

"We can't please everyone Kookie. You already know this."

"I know but -" he didn't continue, instead he gritted his teeth.

"Taehyung is right."

They both turned to see Namjoon standing in the doorway of their room, leaning against the door frame. Taehyung frowned.

"How long have you been there?"

"Long enough to know that our Jungkook is upset about some stupid comment, when he shouldn't have bothered reading them in the first place." Namjoon said and pushed away from the wall.

"But hyung -"

"Let me finish." There was a contained anger in Namjoon's voice.

It was the first time Taehyung had seen the elder get angry over Jungkook. Even the maknae was taken aback by the tone Namjoon used on him.

"Like Taehyung said, you can't make everyone happy Jungkookie. And why does it matter if they find out the song is about you both or if they make hour long analysis about it and then proceed to trash you both?" Namjoon said and took a deep breath, before closing his eyes. When he opened them, the anger was gone, and in it's place there was a gentle look.

"It's their opinion and they are entitled to it. But that doesn't mean you have to let it ruin you or your relationship."

He walked towards the bed they were sitting on and stopped in front of them. "Amongst those millions of fans, there will be some who won't except you or your love. But -"

He placed a hand on Jungkook's shoulder and gave it a slight squeeze. "But there will also be those fans that will support you no matter what, there will be those few who will walk with you till the end of the road and support you and Taehyung till the end."

Namjoon lifted his phone, and Jungkook's eyes widened. The elder too had the comment section open and was showing them a different comment.

'To say, I'm happy to finally get to see the real story of Taehyung and Jungkook, to be able to see the love they have for each other and read the lyrics that were written for them, that portrayed their romance - it truly is a good day today. I'm so thankful and happy that BigHit has finally grown out of the mold and put forth this content - this beautiful relationship that I had only watched blooming in my head. But to find out that it is real, that it is true and so so precious, is the best thing ever. Thank you Taehyung, and thank you Jungkook for giving us this song. Thank you for showing us that true love exists, and that one can love whoever they want and be happy.'

"Wow." Taehyung whispered, and felt Jungkook grab his hand.

"Hey..." Namjoon shook his head and leaned in to touch Taehyung's face. "There's no need for that -" he whispered.

It wasn't until he wiped away the tear that Taehyung realized he was crying.

"Thank you. Thank you so much..." Jungkook was whispering, as if the fan who wrote could hear it. It made Taehyung giggle.

"Idiot. They can't hear you." he said, and Jungkook nodded.

"I know...but still." He stared at the comment, a full blown smile on his lips. The gloominess had disappeared and Jungkook looked happy and at peace.

Taehyung couldn't help but cry a bit more. Whoever this blessed fan was, he sent a silent thank you to them, for making Jungkook so happy.

"I know it's just one person, but it's enough." Jungkook said and Taehyung nodded, agreeing with him.

It didn't matter if some of their fans didn't like them being together, but even if one of them supported Taehyung and Jungkook's relationship, it was enough.

It was enough that this fan loved them, and loved their love for each other.

It was enough that this fan understood the meaning of the song and the destiny that had brought them all together.

It was enough.
