"AGHH!!". There. I finally gave up. Who knew applying for summer internships would take so much of my time, and so much energy too. Ewgh.

I, Liura Mo, am screwed. To a person who is forever in energy saving mode, both physically and mentally, permanently living in baggy sweatshirts and pants, whilst having poor social skills, this is hell.

Having to survive through a business degree AND stress over summer jobs to sustain myself is just too much to ask for. Why God? Why do I have to go through so much to stay alive, when I didn't even ask to be born?

"Whatever Liu just forget about it for now", I murmur to myself as I get ready for bed. Which consists of me changing from one oversized t-shirt to another.

It's almost midnight. Faint noises fill the small and quiet, one bedroom apartment, as nocturnal animals slowly come alive.

The neighborhood I live in isn't one of the safest places out there, but it's close enough to my university, plus the rent is cheap so it was a pretty good deal and I can't afford to be picky. I moved out of my parents' house two years ago, and on one condition: I have to financially support myself. My father's words still echo in my head sometimes, as he stubbornly refuses my idea of living in my own place and learning to become an independent adult. But I agreed to their condition and now I'm all on my own. However, I'm proud to say that I've been doing pretty well now. I've taken up a couple of part time jobs during the semester, and maybe the fact that most of my nutrition comes in the form of instant noodles also helped me financially. I'm surprised I haven't turned into a squishy oompa loompa though. Hmm. I probably have to thank my 45 minutes early morning walks to university, everyday. Well, I could take the bus, but that would require extra money, that I don't have. Sigh.

As I quietly reminisce my not-so-magnificent life, my phone's loud vibration jolts me back to the present time.

Now, before you get too excited and eager to read a potentially hot and erotic late night conversation between my lover and me, I shall let you know that I am single. No boyfriends. No potential boyfriends. No hot crushes either. And I have been this way for the past 20 years of my life.

Before I fall into a black hole of my own miseries and lack of romance, I hurriedly pick up my phone and look at an unknown number brightly displayed on the screen.

Who would call someone at such a late hour?

Curiosity overtakes me and I answer the call.

"Good evening Miss Mo", a rough and deep voice greets me from the other end. "Apologies for the timing, little one, but I just couldn't wait any longer. My name is James. James Mo and I am your grandfather."

Ooookay. That was unexpected.

"Hello, um.. grandfather? Where..How.. Why have you called?". Great job Liu. Stuttering sure leaves a great first impression!

A quiet laugh answers me followed by two quick coughs, "Well my dear, I'm not sure how much your father has told you about me, but you see... I am the ceo of JM Entertainment and was delighted to hear that my only granddaughter has taken up the business path! And, let me get straight to the point. I would be very grateful if you could follow on my footsteps and take over the company. As I have grown very old and weak..."

JM.. Entertainment? I couldn't process what I just heard. My newly found grandfather wanted me, a poor and unsociable 20 year old uni student to take over a whole entertainment company? Really? Am I being tricked? I have no proof that this man is who he says he really is after all..

"Hello? Sweetie, are you still there? Don't tell me you fell asleep on me", grandfather says as he chuckles. As if I could sleep after this call. I could already feel my brain going into overdrive.

"Yeah. Yes, I'm still here", I whispered the first few words that I could think of. There was a short pause before grandfather ended the call saying "Alright, I know this is really sudden so I'll give you a week to decide. Look forward to my next call. Goodnight little one."

I sat there in the dark, on my worn out bed, in a daze. After the feeling of surprise subsided, I quickly jumped out of bed and reached for my laptop. No way grandfather was talking about the one and only JM entertainment. You'd have to be living under a rock in a far away and tiny village to not know what JM company is. Yes, it is that popular.

In fact, it is one of the most renowned companies where the most talented and well known artists of today come from. Although it is situated in a relatively small country on the other side of the world, its marketing strategies are so thorough that everyone has at least heard of the name or seen their logo.

Whoa, my grandfather did that, as I researched further and could see that a certain James Mo is indeed the funder and CEO of JM Entertainment. I also found a large variety of pictures of my grandfather on various websites. The fact that I could see the family resemblance in each of these photos was quite shocking, to say the least.

He, in fact, has the same unique violet eyes, with a thin line of emerald green around the irises, a characteristic that has ran in the Mo family for generations. Grandfather's violet coloured eyes looked slightly more faded compared to mine, and his graying hair was also probably jet black in the past. Just like mine.

He was a relatively handsome man, considering his age. Standing tall and proud in whichever event he had to attent.

However, in the most recent pictures I could see him gradually getting worn out, the number of his wrinkles increasing steadily and his public appearances becoming less and less. So far, everything he said during the phone call, coincide with the various articles on the internet.

The situation has just sunk in.

My grandfather has asked me to take over JM entertainment, which means that I would become the boss of the man on my phone wallpaper! Absolutely ridiculous.
