P.O.W.E.R Level

the mission

"RRRRing!" went the alarm clock. It was 9:00 a.m. Cyan's eyes drifted open slowly, receiving the first few rays of light piercing through his cotton. He got up drowsily and proceeded to his daily routine. He moved to his mirror, wiping his eyes. "Hair: black. Eyes: Cyan. Name: Cyan Zugo," He muttered to himself. Named after the color of his eyes, a self-check such as this helped Cyan be sure that he was himself. He kept staring at his reflection, narrowing his eyes, trying to remember something he was supposed to be excited about. Then he gasped.

"Mission!" He raced into his bathroom, freshened up and got dressed for the day. He swung open his door and charged down the stairs. "Uncle Yujiro!" he called. He lived with his uncle, Yujiro, a young adult with gold-like hair and heterochrome eyes: one blue, a deep navy abyss, and the other, hidden behind his overhanging hair, a striking leafy green. Cyan made it downstairs and as expected, he found his uncle at the door, frozen in place. "You were about to leave me behind again, weren't you?" he asked. Yujiro turned around, a sheepish smile on his face. "Well, you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you up, but in all honesty? Yeah, I was about to," he answered. Cyan gasped, clutching his chest, feigning being shot. He moved down the stairs and into the kitchen, not letting Yujiro out of sight once. "I can't believe you were about to betray me," Cyan said dramatically, his eyes meeting Yujiro's uncovered eye. "You could use a sidekick," he added. "I am a sidekick, Cyan," Yujiro chuckled. "I know you're my favorite hero's side kick but individually you need me for support," Cyan answered, filing up a bottle with tea. It's why Mage and I are partnered," Yujiro answered. Cyan grimaced. "Using her to replace your own blood?" he asked, moving to the fridge. Yujiro winced at the question. "Wait, You actually would?!" Cyan asked, genuinely hurt. "By proper standards, yes. You're inexperienced," Yujiro answered candidly. Cyan nodded, picking out a slice of cake. "How do we handle inexperience?" He asked with a smile. Yujiro realized he had been led on. "Precisely! With experience!" Cyan completed. "Well, you can't come if you're not ready," Yujiro said. "Really? On what terms?" Cyan asked. "You've taken a bath, but have you eaten?" Yujiro asked. Cyan walked past him with a smile. "In the car, I will," he said. Yujiro rolled his eyes with amusement, noticing that Cyan had been packing himself breakfast while talking to him, also keeping eye contact and dragging the conversation so he wouldn't leave. He smirked, "Already smart enough... No, Smarter than he is meant to be."

He joined Cyan in the car and started the engine.

Cyan was pleased with himself. "I had to shorten my sleep time, my shower time, and my breakfast quantity but at least I get to follow him on patrol. Finally!" he smiled to himself, looking out the window. He saw children playing in a park, seemingly just unlocking their powers. One of those that caught the eye of Cyan was a child with some sort of burst power that discharged air pressure to launch objects- like an arrow that another child threw- at a target. For a child of his age the child appeared to have good aim. Most of the arrows had hit the target except one, which soared over the target and narrowly missed a rabbit. The children paused and went to check on this rabbit.

Everyone, including Cyan and Yujiro, had powers. They all started with the coming of an asteroid that crashed on Earth, expelling a multi-colored radiation that spread swiftly around the world, boosting the general abilities of people in its wake. These new powers, renamed to Radiants, brought about a new age of humanity. As time passed people got used to the Radiance and more details of Radiance and Kaiku, the energy powering Radiance, came to light. As expected, these Radiants had a drawback. When used for crime or a user experiencing extreme negative emotions, Ones Kaiku becomes negative dark energy, forcing one's heart to succumb to darkness, and these victims are called impure- Imp for short. In a case like this the Imps would serve as the villains. Where there are villains there would have to be heroes. Most civilians took charge to fight for the greater good and curb the actions of the Imps at large. Out of them all, twelve of them served to be the best in town. They were tagged the Twelve Storeys and they were favored by most, if not all. Yujiro happened to be the sidekick of the Seventh Story, NRG, with the Radiant of Energy as his title implied. This was the same hero Cyan valued the most. Cyan liked how NRG was a man of his own vibe, seemingly taking the lead off the intensity of a situation. His presence was like an electric motivation of sorts. Cyan knew this, having witnessed NRG put down an imp flawlessly with minimal damage to any infrastructure, himself, and even the imp. Cyan smiled to himself, hoping that they would be able to meet and talk in person, but NRG's patrols were usually done at an undetectable speed. This, along with the fact that he wanted to see what the patrol was like, was why he tagged along with one of NRG's sidekicks, Yujiro, whose hero name was Blitzer. Blitzer's Radiant was Destruction and he was now on patrol in his car.

"You didn't even put on your suit," Cyan said. "Are you that certain that nothing's going to happen?" he asked Yujiro, smiling. "I'd rather go without the suits so as not to attract unwanted attention to me," he said, especially having you here with me. "I can't risk an unforeseen attack on us. Something could happen to you," he said, looking at Cyan, peering at him as if to convince Cyan to go back home. Cyan wasn't changing his mind. "No problem, stealth is fine," he smiled sweetly. "Does that answer why you're going in your car not on foot?" he asked Yujiro, who shrugged. "Honestly it's a backhanded thing. If I'm in the open without my suit, it gives Imps the go-ahead to come out but they won't know I'm there," he said. "But at the same time, if I head out with my suit in the open, it makes them hide, and for all I know my patrol cycle could be getting tracked. I have to alternate how I go on patrol and change it constantly. It's all about thinking ahead-"

The radio started beeping, signaling Yujiro was receiving a transmitted signal. It was his partner, Mage, calling him. Yujiro clicked answer. "What's up Mage?" he asked casually. "Where are you?" Mage's voice shot through the speakers and by the tone of her, usually calm speech, she was either panicked, pissed, or both. In this case she was both. "No need to shout. I'm on patrol," Yujiro answered, still calm and collected. "Haven't you checked your pager?" Mage asked, her voice lowering, seemingly calming down. "No, not yet. Why?" Yujiro asked. "There's an imp at large. Y'know, your 'worst nemesis'?" Mage said, a hint of teasing in her voice. Yujiro let out frustrated a groan. "You don't mean it," he sighed under his breath. "Yup, I'm serious. Skeller again." Mage chuckled. Cyan pursed his lips, stifling a laugh. He didn't want Mage to hear him as she'd have vented her anger on Yujiro (verbally) and forced Cyan home. She was always acting like his mother of sorts for Cyan ever since she learned he lost his parents to the attack of the Butchrages. "Skeller is literally one of the dumbest code names I've heard before," Yujiro complained. "Yeah, and he seems to take a liking to peeving you. Just get here quick, okay? He's still a threat. We're around the beach," Mage said. "Right, I'll head on over there, Yujiro affirmed, taking a turn right into the street leading directly to the beach, and the transmission cut off. "What exactly does Skeller hope to achieve as an imp?" Cyan asked. "Not sure," Yujiro sighed, running his hand through his hair. "Maybe we'll ask him." He smiled. "That said, nice work on being quiet while Mage was on. She nags like an old lady," he chuckled and grinned. "I know," Cyan chuckled.

As Yujiro sped past the buildings leading to the beach, Cyan felt waves of excitement course through him. Originally, he would have settled for a small patrolling trip with Yujiro but now he was about to go on a full-blown mission with him. He was about to experience a battle and wanted to join the fight, having been trained by a pro hero himself. Yujiro hit the brakes at a pier with the steps leading down to the beach. "So, Cyan," he asked with a slight smirk, "Wanna see Blitzer in action?" he asked, tapping the steering wheel. Cyan nodded excitedly, "Let's go!" he exclaimed. Yujiro nodded curtly, "Good. Now, just take care and don't let Mage-"

Suddenly, a figure flipped into sight from inside the pier in a violet blur of clothing." It was the subject topic herself, Mage. She regained her balance, skidding back a little, seemingly knocked back from inside the pier. Yujiro and Cyan froze stiff. As if on cue Mage turned to face the car. She was a bit below average height, with her blonde hair tied in a neat ponytail, all of the hair fading into a mystic violet. She had warm but intense sunset orange eyes, and her pupils seemed to reflect different colors depending on where the observer was standing. Her suit was rather classic fantasy mage attire, with a cloak wrapped around her to look like a cape. She had a blank expression on her face when she first turned to face the car but her ever-glinting eyes darted around it, looking at it with a hint of familiarity in her gaze. Then, like a jump scare, she peered into the tinted windshield of the car. Then she smiled, seemingly only noticing Yujiro, and Cyan, aware of the chance, tapped into his elemental radiant and went into water mode, which turned his hair blue and eyes aquamarine green. Instantly he deformed in shape to the form of a puddle and started dripping to pass through the small gap in the door, drip by drip. Yujiro casually opened his door and Mage said, "Glad you could make it." She said. Yujiro nodded. "Where's the bony tramp?" He sighed, hating having to see Skeller. Cyan had dripped out the door and flowed on. Skeller was an imp with bone manipulation as his radiant and he always came with an exoskeleton armor made of bones he formed outside his skin. He only had control over his bones and was pretty slippery for a criminal. There was always someone bailing him at the moment of capture. At that point they heard a rattling noise, it was Skeller himself in his exoskeleton armor, matching out with a triumphant smirk on his face, which was all covered in bone, but his expressions were clear. "Well, well," he began a phrase so cliché, Yujiro rolled his eyes. "The wonderful Mage ran back to her partner. Pathetic! I thought I'd be in for a fight!" he jeered.
