Just an Ordinary Life...right?

I don’t know when it started but these days every night I would be having this weird dream about a mysterious guy dressed up in black. I would only see his back view at first and then he would turn around and look at me. He would say something at the end but the scenery was all silent and dark like it was just a fantasy and I couldn’t hear anything. When I woke up the next morning I would think that dream wasn’t important. Then I heard leaks in the bathroom. It turns out the faucet in the sink is broken and the floor is flooded with water. “Shoot, I forgot to pay my landlady this month’s payment!”

Well let me introduce myself. My name is Briella and I’m poor. I live in a real shabby apartment by myself. I’m in my third year of high school and I attend Roise High. My parents divorced when I was 5 because of my father’s gambling addict. Not long after my mom married off to a rich and skinny guy and abandoned me. On the other hand my father would still gamble day and night and eventually also ditched me. I got used to living and providing by myself and I thought my life was just as ordinary as any other person.

I was late to school this morning because I forgot to set my alarm. I ran as fast as I could to school and didn’t eat breakfast. On the middle of the way I saw a poor, stray cat. I couldn’t just ignore it so I went over to the cat and petted it. In my school bag I happened to have some canned fish food. Claret,my best friend, gave it to me as food for dinner last week because she knows I’m a real frugal person when it comes to spending money. I would even only eat white steamed buns for three meals a day just to save money. Luckily I didn’t eat the canned food and gave it to the cat. When I looked at the time on my phone, there was only 15 minutes left til the bell rang for attendance. When I got to the school gate, a guy that seems familiar passed by me. I stopped for a minute and turned back, but he was already gone.

I got scolded by my homeroom teacher and had to stand outside the classroom. I had to stay afterschool and clean all the desks in the classroom. I missed the whole morning class, but luckily Claret gave me her notes. It was time for lunch and I would just buy the cheapest bread from the cafeteria. Claret said, “How can you eat something as dry as that? My mom packed me extra lunch today. Don’t say I don’t love you, your babe here will share it with you.” I hugged Claret with my teary eyes and said, “I love you sweetie, I’ll pray and pray that you get a 100 on your next test!” She rolled her eyes and flicked my forehead.

When lunch was over, I got ready to go to my next class. I was walking in the hallway with Claret and suddenly my heart started to beat so fast and I felt like suffocating like I couldn’t breathe. Then the guy in my dream appeared in my mind. It was as if he’s calling for me. Then several classmates in front of me, who weren’t looking while talking to each other, bumped into me real hard. I got knocked over to the window on my right. Claret said “Watch our Briella!”

I was confused to what’s there for me to watch out for. It’s not like the window was broken or anything. I looked to the window and being shocked saw the window was indeed broken and there was a huge whole. (This was the third floor of the school and it was very high.) I fell from the window and thought “Is this how I’m gonna die. Well it’s not like my life was very happy and joyful to begin with. Goodbye.” Then suddenly out of nowhere I landed on the ground and I felt like someone was holding me. I opened my eyes and I was on the arms of the guy who I’ve never thought I would meet. I was shocked and couldn’t believe it. The guy in my dream actually appeared in front of me and saved me!

And just like that...🎊

When I opened my eyes everything around me was pitch dark. Humorously I said “God I know you hate but why did you send me to hell. I’ve spent my 17 years of life just studying and living just an ordinary life. How did my life end up like this 😭?” All of a sudden the lights were on and I was lying on a bed. I turned to my left and when I saw the guy sitting on the chair, I freaked out and fell out of the bed. “Wha..wha..whAt aRE yOu DoInG Herree!!! ArEN’t YOu tHe PerSoN In My DReaM?!?!?” The guy kept staring at me and walked over to me. He looked at my face seriously and said “Do you really not remember me?”

“I’m SorRyy, if mY daD oWes you any MoNey go find him instead. I haven’t contacted him in years. PlEase DonT KilL Me 😭!” The guy feeling disappointed squeezed my cheeks and it hurted. He introduced himself. “My name is Ace. From now on I’ll be by your side and be protecting you.” That line made me cringe and I said “Boy did you get hit in the brain, I know you saved me just now but I think you needa go get a check up.” Then Claret came in and was so worried about me. “Briella, are you alright? You got hit by a soccer ball and you fainted. I was so worried, that’s why I told you not to eat white steamed buns all the time. Now look at you, you fainted because you don’t consume enough calories!!”

Myself: “Got hit by a soccer ball?”

She hugged me and then saw Ace. With a smirk on her face and also chuckling, Claret said “Oh Girl... I see you found yourself a boy..hehe”

While blushing I said “No It’s not what you think, don’t misunderstand. Ace tell her about our relationship.!” Ace, with a straight face, then said “That’s right, from now on I’m not going to allow anyone to hurt Briella. I’ll crush anyone who tries to hurt her.”

Myself: “Whatttt!!!” Claret just had some lewd thoughts and then smirked, she said “So how far have you guys gone 😏? “

With huge shock I fainted again. (This part is supposed to be sarcastic)

When school was over, I walked back home. I looked behind me “Why are you following me!! We’re not even close!” Then I tripped on a rock ,on the ground, and ahead of me a soccer ball was about to hit my face. I closed my eyes, being shocked, and I knew I couldn’t avoid it. Then suddenly Ace caught the ball in one of his hands and held on to me with his other hand. I Can’t Believe He Saved me AAgainn! (My heart actually skipped a beat)

“That reminds me! Why did Claret say I fainted by getting hit by a soccer ball. I remember I fell out the window.” Ace said “I erased everyone’s memory who saw you fell out the window.” Myself: “Wait WHAT!!! Erasing memories?, JUST WHO ARE YOU!!” Ace said “Do you believe in demons?” This time I rubbed his head and said “I think you really need to go to a mental hospital. (Sigh)”

Ace was going to say something important and was serious but seeing Briella’s reaction, he kept quiet.

Ace kept following me. “Dude why do you keep following me, at this rate you might as well just come to my house and live there!” Ace said “Oh, that’s a nice idea. I don’t have a place to stay in anyways. I guess I’ll be staying at your place for a while then. Hope I won’t bother you.” I literally can’t believe it and just when I was about to respond to him, I saw the cat that I fed this morning when I went to school.

I went over to the cat and petted it. “Sweetie, I really want to adopt you but I’m sure my landlady won’t allow it.” Then Ace came over and also petted the cat. Ace and I made eye contact. Then I had a sudden nostalgic feeling that we met somewhere before.

Not a good day

“...why do you keep staring at me. FYI I’m only letting you stay at my place because you saved me earlier. I’m just returning the favor.” Ace, sitting on the sofa, just laughed at me and I felt like punching him for some reason. Then someone was knocking on the door real loudly. I told Ace to open the door. (I was busy cooking noodles for dinner) After thinking for a moment “oh Wait Ace DONT OPEN it!!!” It was too late, Ace opened the door and it was the landlady.

Furiously the landlady said “BRIELLA CHEN,You havenT PAID YOUR RENT for LAST MONTH! How DARE you still stay here!!” When the landlady saw Ace’s face she started to blush. The landylady said “Oh dear, what a handsome man.” She started to act all shyly and said “Handsome boy, it’s not what it looks like, I’m usually really polite and not that tomboyish....” Ace interrupted her: “How much does she owe you?”

Landlady: “Not that much, just 42,000 yuan✌️” Ace then took out a golden XX card and showed it to her. Ace: “Here, there’s no limit to this card. Take it.” I went over to Ace and stopped him. Myself to Ace: “Are you crazy, what’s wrong with you?!! Landlady, sorry just give me one more day, I’ll transfer the money to you tomorrow.” Seeing how handsome Ace is, the landlady gave in and gave me an extra day. She left my house after that.

Myself: “Ace, JUST who are you? First you saved me from falling out the window. Then you erased Claret and my classmates’ memories. And now you have a unlimited golden XX card?!?!”

Ace: “I know you’re probably wondering who I am, but I can’t tell you that now. When the time is right, I’ll tell you everything about me and ‘us’” Then all of a sudden I started to feel dizzy, then I fainted.

Ace brought me to bed, and he realized it’s a full moon. Ace: “Tonight’s a full moon, no wonder you fainted.” Then he whispered something “I need to hurry up and get the dark soul stone out of you.” He gave me a kiss on my forehead afterwards as I was asleep.

Ace went to the window side and was talking to somone. He was talking to a child-like cute, wolf person. The wolf child’s name is Peppy.

Peppy: “So how is my sis. Seems she forgot everything. I wonder how she’ll react if she finds out her real identity.”

Ace: “Don’t tell her anything now. Let’s leave it to fate. Did you do the things I assigned?”

Peppy: “Yes Master, I told your dad and mom you are in the human world, but I didn’t tell them about sis.”

Ace: “Don’t mention anything about Briella to them yet, I’m afraid they’ll send their men over.”

Peppy: “Don’t worry, I don’t want anything bad to happen to sis anyways.”

Ace: “I want you to stay by Briella’s side starting next week. I have something to take care of.”

Sorry guys, I know this chapter is a little short but I’m currently working on a new chat story. I also realized that this novel I’m working on is a good idea for a chat story but since I’m new to MangaToon I didn’t know about that platform. Sorry guys 🙏.
