Sophie POV
I stepped out of the taxi that pulled up at the entrance of Huang Group. Securing my purse on my shoulder, I walked past the revolving doors, ignoring all eyes that looked in my direction and towards the front desk. Removing my aviator shades, I asked. "Is Harvey in his office?"
The brown-haired receptionist looked up at me and faked smiled as if I wouldn't notice. "Do you have an appointment, Miss?" she asked.
"No," I replied with a blank expression. This woman needs an attitude adjustment, is she always this rude to everyone that walked in. "Which way to Harvey’s office?"
"Sorry, but you can't see the boss without an appointment," she replied, crossing her arms. She narrowed her eyes at me. "Please leave or I will have security to-"
"Miss. Huo, when did you get back!?"
The brunette and I looked to the left simultaneously and spotted Miss. Amy Yang, Harley's personal assistant. Still beautiful as ever. I walked over and greeted her with a hug. "Today actually, I-"
Amy nudged my side after I released her and snickered. "Couldn't wait to see your darling, Harley, huh. Are you finally going to give him a chance?"
I blushed profusely. That jerk couldn't keep his big mouth shut. How many people did he tell? I faked coughed and said. "How much do you know?"
"Every. Single. Thing." She replied with a mischievous smile.
"Miss. Yang," the brunette receptionist said interrupting our conversation, getting both of our attention. Knowing her exact intention, I crossed my arms and smirked at her. She shot me a dirty glare before turning her full attention to Amy. "This rude lady wants to see the boss without an appointment and wouldn't leave. I am about to call security."
"Imbecile!" Amy yelled, causing the brunette to flinch in shock. She pointed to me and stated. "Never, ever disrespect Miss Sophie Huo again. She's your boss most important person if he gets wind of what happened today. You know what will happen, right."
I smiled triumphantly as her face turned pale. Placing my right hand on Amy's shoulder, I said. "It's okay she didn't know. Plus, I am not his most important person. I am just his childhood best friend." Turning my full attention to the brunette, I added in a polite tone. "From now on, I hope you will treat every guest with the respect they deserve."
She bowed and replied nervously. "Y-yes Miss. Huo!"
"I am on my way to see Harvey," Amy said. She latched onto my right arm and dragged me towards the elevator, excited, with a hint of deviousness written on her face. "Let's go see him together."
…
As soon Amy and I exit the elevator onto the sixtieth floor, we heard Harvey’s domineering voice and then the door burst open and a woman ran out, terrified. We looked at each other with an annoyed expression and then nodded our heads in unison.
While Amy went to check on the girl, I marched into his office without knocking and stood a couple of feet before his desk.
"Did I say you can enter my room without knocking?" He asked without looking up from his desk where he was scuffing through a stack of papers.
I placed my hands on my hips and questioned. "Why are you always so harsh with your staff?"
Harvey’s eyes widened at the sound of the all too familiar voice he had longed to hear, he instantaneously raised his head and revealed the shocked look on his face. As if he had just seen a ghost or something. Within minutes, he replaced it a cold dirty stare. Still holds onto grudges I see. "Why are you here?" he asked, rudely.
"I got a job at City A General Hospital," I said as I walked over to the L-shaped couch and sat down, crossing my legs.
Harvey hardened his glare as he looked at me from his leather couch behind his desk. "Leave, you are disrupting my work." His voice was cold and distant.
I frowned at his displeasing attitude. "I am sorry about what happened four years ago. Can we let the past stay in the past and move on? I miss you so much."
"Let the past stay in the past," he spat sarcastically. He slammed his hands down on the wooden table, causing the stack of papers to fly everywhere. "As if it wasn't bad enough when you brutally turned me down. But then you disappeared without a word, for FOUR FUCKING YEARS!"
My eyes widened in shock. When did Harvey start swearing? Did I elicit this from him? My heart pained at the thought. I got up and walked over to him, reaching out to his hands. "Harvey, I-"
"Don't touch me!" He yelled, smacking my hands away. He then pointed to the door. "Get the **** out of my office NOW!"
I glared at him angrily as tears formed at the corner of my eyes. "No need to tell me twice asshole. I heard you the first time," I replied, giving him the middle finger. Turning around, I headed for the door, slamming it shut behind me.
Amy ran up to me before I could step into the elevator that just opened with a worried expression. "What the hell happened in there?"
"I think… I ruined my relationship with Harvey," I confessed, as the tears I have been holding back rolled down my cheeks. "My main reason for coming back was for him. I missed him so much."
"Sophie, are you in love with him?"
"No," I replied. I have never looked at Harley that way and I don't think I ever will. Plus, he's like the twin brother I never had. We would argue, make-up, argue again and make-up again. Only this time, I don't think there will be a make-up. Things got heated back there. "I just miss having Harvey in my life is all."
Amy smiled gently at me. "Give him some space and he will come around. I think to see you out of the blue like that, awakened all those pent-up emotions. He was so furious back then, no one dare cross him."
"I am going to check in at my hotel," I said as I pushed the down button on the elevator. "When you get off work, swing by for some wine and chitchat."
"Oh, hell no," Amy replied. She dug her hand into her pocket and pulled out her spare keys. As she hands it to me, she stated. "You are staying with me until you find your own place."
I chuckled. Amy was and still is my best friend from back in high school. Harley and I met her during the opening ceremony for the new high school students. "Then look forward to a nice feast when you get home."
Amy brown eyes lit up. She leaped forward and hugged me. "I love you Sophie Huo!" She declared out loud.
…
As soon as I stepped outside of the Huang group building, I raised my hand and whistled, calling. "Taxi!" A taxi came to a stop before me, I opened the door and sat down in the back seat. "Parkview apartment please."
"Okay miss," the taxi driver said with a pleasant smile from the rear-view mirror. He was an older man with ashen grey hair.
Harvey POV
I watched from the floor to ceiling glass window that frame the L-shape corner of my office as Sophie got into the taxi and drove off, with my hands in my pocket. For as long as I can remember, she would do or say the stupidest things that would cause me to lash out at her. What happened earlier was a prime example. She's right. I am an asshole.
After months of replaying why she would just disappeared without a trace after dumping me, I had decided to let it go. After all, you can't force someone to love you. But then when she walked in, in all her glory and had the audacity to utter that line to me. I snapped and took it too far. I might have lost my best friend and first love.
Knock! Knock!
"Come in," I said as I looked out at the bustling city below me.
"Harvey," came Amy's voice. "May I have your permission to freely speak what's on my mind."
"Don't you always speak your mind. Why ask now?"
Amy rolled her eyes and then mercilessly lashed out at me. "Are you an idiot!? The woman of your dreams is finally back and you just had to act like an asshole-"
"Watch your tone," I warned as I glanced over my shoulder and looked at her. This damn woman has been getting too comfortable with me lately. It's high time I put her on a leash. "I can fire you on the spot."
She placed her hands on her hips and smiled smugly. "And then you would be begging me minutes later to come back."
"You talk too much sometimes," I said annoyed. Why can't I ever win against this woman? It irks the heck out of me. One of these days I will get her back real good. "What's your point Yang."
"My point is," Amy began. She pointed her index finger at him. "You need to go and apologize to her. She was crying her eyes out earlier. If you don't fix this not only will I quit but I will make sure you never lay eyes on Sophie again."
"Okay woman, if you are done you can leave."
"Thank you," Amy replied happily. As she skipped out the door, she added in a singsong voice. "I wonder what Sophie is making for supper."
I turned around just in time to see the door closing. Sophie is making her supper? She's staying with her? Ugh, I need a drink. I pulled out my cell from my pocket and dialled the fifth number on my contact.
"Grab the gang and meet me at Chez Min-chi within the hour," I ordered as soon as the voice on the other end picked up. Before he could reply, I hung up, grabbed my car keys and exit my office.
...
I walked into Chez Min-chi forty-five minutes later and headed towards the VIP room 000 in the basement. As soon as I opened the door, I spotted my boys chatting and laughing.
I entered the room and sat down in one of the empty leather couch. I bought out this room so my boy and I have a peaceful area to unwind after a stressful day. In one corner of the room was a pool table and on the other side was three two-person couch forming a u-shape with a glass table in the middle. Adorning the white walls, were famous painting I acquired during my business trips.
"So, why did you want to meet up all of a sudden," Nicholas Xu the upbeat and sometimes annoying one, asked.
James Tang, the serious and intelligent one, added. "Whose the woman you want me to get rid of her?"
"Can I have her if you don't want her?" Dylan Yao asked, a handsome womanizer asked.
I picked up the empty champagne glass and poured myself a glass of Chateau Cheval Blanc. After taking a big gulped, I mumbled out. "Sophie Huo is back."
"Is she still as hot as before? Or hotter?" Dylan asked me.
Is this idiot courting death? I narrowed my eyes at him. "Don't even think about touching my woman. She's off limit."
Dylan chuckled nervously. "I was only kidding Harvey. No need to be so uptight."
James looked at me with a poker face. "You clearly still have strong feelings for her. What are you going to do now?"
"I don't know. I snapped at her today and kicked her out of my office."
Nicholas burst out laughing. "Harvey, the asshole has done it again."
"Shut it Nick!" I reprimanded and then took another gulp of alcohol from my champagne glass. "Anyways she at Amy's place right now."
"What!?" Nicholas screeched. His brilliant plan to woo Amy went down the drain. "I was planning on spending some quality time with my girl tonight."
"Since when did she became your girl," Dylan asked with a smirk. "I think it's time you move on bro."
I continued to drink glass after glass of Chateau Cheval Blanc, losing count after the forth glass while they bickered with each other. I leaned back in the couch and looked up at the chandelier hanging in the middle of the room.
Sophie has to move into my villa and cook for me and only me. But first, I must make up with her. I could send her, her favourite chocolate and flower but that might give her the wrong impression.
"I will taker her out for supper at her favourite restaurant." I said to no one in particular before passing out.
...
When I opened my eyes again, it was morning and I was in my bed, still wearing my suit from last night. I sat up in bed and immediately wish I didn't, my head and pounding. I mentally noted not to get stupid drunk ever again as I got up and walked in an unsteady pace towards my washroom to get ready for work.
Today I decided to wear a black suit with red undershirt and dark red tie. After greeting my butler a good morning, I exit my villa and drove to work in my Lamborghini Veneno Roadster.
