You sat on the rooftop of your house with your classmate who you have been crushing on for awhile.
Luck finally somewhat worked your way somehow and your homeroom teacher paired you both up for a group project. It wasn't much easy so they prefered to come over to your place. Little did they knew you were panicking at their statement.
As someone who lives with only their sibling and barely sees their parents, you weren't sure whether to accept their offer or not. But you decided to be bold and went ahead to invite them, and now here you are, sitting beside them on your rooftop, staring at the beautiful sunset infront of you. They stays silent as usual to their mysterious self, making you like them more and more.
Their eyes glued to the sky as you stared at the glowing face of theirs. They looked ethereal to you.
“This really doesn't feel real... ” you thought to yourself while dragging your eyes back towards the view infront of you from the one beside you. Right then you both heard some loud chirps and wing flapping sounds over your head so you looked up. It was a group of some colourful birds, their feather colour shining under the reflection of the setting sun's light.
"They are probably heading to their nests.." you mumbled without realising you spoke your thoughts out loud.
"Yeah they are." your crush spoke in a low tone, as if they were scared of speaking loudly and breaking something.
The whole moment felt unreal to you. From the corner of your eye you noticed them smiling at the sight infront, which lead to you showcasing a faint smile as well.
“This is probably the first time I'm seeing that genuine smile instead of the usual fake one.. such a pretty smile oh my God !!” Deciding to take a proper look, you turned around to face them. They, out of the blue, looked at you the same time. The accidental and unexpected startled you making you flich slightly.
Just to not make the situation awkward, you tried looking away from their eyes but failed at the mesmerizing sight of their smile.
“That is the first time you smiled at me so genuinely...” your thoughts proceeded on its own as you made your eyes look away forcefully.
To calm your racing heart you looked up at the sky again. the orange-pinkish glow of the sky was slowly fading along with the setting sky.
"The view seems extra pretty today, doesn't it?" you blurted out without realisation as the view kept you in it's hold.
They turned their head towards you, "It surely is.." a smile broke it's way to their face as they spoke. You hummed, thinking they were speaking about the sky, but little did you know,
It was about you the whole time.
His blue orbs stared into her brown ones. A stare filled with love....? No, it was a stare full of admiration and respect. His warm hands met the cold, exposed skin of her tattooed waist. Flinching at the sudden change of temperature she bit her lips. He smirked. "Didn't knew my hand alone can do that for you, sweetheart." his deep voice echoed through the empty hallway as they hit her ears. Showcasing her embarrassment through her red tinted cheeks, she opened her mouth to speak. But unfortunately, nothing came out except silent air.
"Brittney, what are you doing on your notebook again??" I flinched at the sudden call-out and looked back to find my boyfriend, Jake staring at me from the doorway. "Nothing babe! It's nothing!" with a awkward smile I get off the floor. "Were you writing again..? Show me!!" "Eh- no no! It's really bad!!" I roared back trying to hide away my notebook.
"Britt, why do you even hide it from me? It's not like I'll judge you or something! I'm your boyfriend of 5 years c'mon!!" he sighed but I shook my head aggressively. "It’s just embarrassing for me ok!? I don't like it when someone reads my stories infront of me!!" "You are a professional writer babe..." "Stilll!! Wahhh I thought atleast you'll understand me!"
I made a pouty face for the drama queen I am. "I do understand you love, but sometimes you are just confusing." he walked over to me and placed a kiss on my forehead.
GOD I LOVE HIS FOREHEAD KISSES!!!
"It’s fine if you don't want me to see your drafts and stuff, but atleast don't hide it when I'm around. It makes me feel insecure.." his lips curled up into a small pout as he spoke. My hand went up to caress his cheek as I smiled brightly at him. "As you say love. I'll not hide it anymore. I'm sorry, I didn't knew you felt that way. I'm just shy you know..."
"Shy for sure. Let's get onto bed, we'll see how shy you are ourself." "I- y-yah!! That's a whole different thing ok!! Tops can be shy too!!" my cheeks heated up due to the embarrassment I felt from my own words as he just chuckled at my embarrassed self. Fucker.
"Chill babe, I was just teasing you. I know you are very shy~" he sing songed the last part and kissed my forehead again. "Yeah yeah whatever. Go and get me some food nowww!!" I whined pocking his stomach. "I haven't ate anything since lunch and it have been 4 hours without a snackkkk I'm hungryyyyy!!" my dramatic whines continued until he covered my mouth with his hand.
"God! I was here to ask you come and eat in the first place woman! Holy crap you are loud!" I smirked after removing his hand from my face, "well you are the loud one in bed, so I have to be loud at other places. We play fair afterall~" "I- shut up! You are always teasing me!! Why are you like this!" "What? Can only you tease huh?" I chuckled and he joined me soon after.
"Are you love birds done?? For God's sake you have a single roommate here! Show some mercy and let's go eat!!" My roommate, a.k.a. my bestfriend Smith walked inside my room with his hands over his hips and a annoyed expression on his face.
Bitchass.
"Yeah yeah we're coming. You are such a mood spoiler man!" I showed my tongue at him and he just rolled his eyes. Cute.
"Well, your romance can wait but my food is getting cold for God's sake!!" "Alright alright let's go! Babe, let's go." I got up from the floor before putting my notebook on my table along with my pencil. "Finally I'm getting some food!!" Smith rolled his eyes again before walking out of my room.
I just laughed at him and slinged my arm around Jake's and walked to the kitchen to have a bite of 'Smith special fried noodles' as what he calls it.
"You really think this is a good idea?"
"Nope."
"Good. I'd be very concerned if you did.' I heaved out fake sigh and stared into her olive toned eyes. pretty.
"Me too. Now shut up and do your work." she whisper-yelled at me as both of our eyes roamed around us.
A fully crowded royal ball. Everyone dancing with their partners, and here we are. My arms neatly wrapped around her delicate waist, the only barrier being the soft fabric of her dress. All the eyes were definitely not on us, but many were. "There are atleast 30 of them. You sure you can take atleast half of them?"
"Half? Oh princess, don't question my abilities like that. I could finish all of these lowly 'fighters' in no matter of time with still holding you like this." my lips tugged up into a smirk leading her to roll her eyes at me.
"First of all, too bold of you to assume I'm a princess. Secondly, you have no useful weapons on you and they have all sorts of them. Only a fool would dare to fight them like that." "You have already got me a fool by making me fall for you princess."
"For the last time, I'm not a princess!" "Woah woah, chill down. We both know that I'm gonna call you that no matter what so you just better deal with this. Or you know where my hidden blade is." "I know. It's right against my back. You don't have to worry about that. But you should be aware of what's around your menhood too."
"What..." my eyes slowly travelled down. "Uh huh, eyes up here Mr. Smarty pants. You can't see it, you just have to feel it." "You are one hell of a threat eh? Nice try princess. Now how about we focus on our plan instead of trying to kill eachother?" "I was about to say that. But don't you dare make it awkward or get ahead of yourself! I'm doing this solely for the sake of my mother."
"As if I ain't." rolling my eyes I scanned over the room again. Yep, over 20 pairs of eyes in total, all of them on us. I sighed as brought my eyes back to her. Taking ahold of the eye contact, she gave me the signal, telling me it's time.
‘if this won't happen, then both of us dies. Goddamn mother why did you had to do this to me!!’ my mind stormed into its unreasonable thought again.
But, pushing my internal thoughts aside, I took a deep breath without anyone's notice. "Let's do this.." mumbling my saying I drifted my eyes over to her lips. Her rose pink lips were slightly trembling.. she is as nervous as me I guess? The music switched to a slow one and the lights in the grand hall changed colours, making it... romantic. This is getting more and more awkward !!
I lightly shook my head and brought my attention back to her. Her eyes were telling me something totally different than what she was showing. She wanted this. Her eyes shined in an excitement I've never seen in all this time of us growing up together. I nodded at her as my hands around her waist pulled her closer, resulting in our bodies getting pressed against each other. In the air full of a sudden tention between us, she nodded, giving me 'permission'. Yeah that's what she'd call it.
It had to be done and I just wanted it to be done with. With the known assassins around us who were ready to kill us right instant if we won't do it, I lifted up my hand and placed it on her cheek, holding it as gently as possible.
My eyes again flicked over to her eyes, and with the intense holding of eye contact, I ducked my head down. Right then she closed her eyes. Ashamed? Scared? Embarrassed? I will never know. My eyes closed too, and that's when I felt it.
Her feather soft lips on mine. They were trembling, but as soon as mine touched hers, they stopped. It was as if time have stopped and so have my breathing. All I could hear was nothingness. It was as if the warmth from her lips radiated throughout my body. I felt very hot, in the freezing cold of January.
Our lips moved over each other's in sync. She forgot to keep in the show that she hated it and raised her arms up to slowly hang them around my neck. It was driving me crazy. With the magical collapse of our lips together along with the calm music playing in the background, I now was sure of what I wanted and what I desired all along. I soon heard her breath running fast.. HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN INTO IT FOR HER TO RUN OUT OF BREATH!?? My heart raced faster than ever, acknowledging the fact that I have to face her right after we break out of this magical happening.
My heart sanked. Not because I realised I was running short on breath too, but because I realised I had fallen for the girl I never should have. The acknowledgement of the fact that she is most likely to be someone else's ate me up. I felt my world crashing down. I was happy we shared our first kiss, but it still wasn't enough to ease up my sudden unexpected wound of knowing I won't be her last one.
I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. I knew it was her, signalling she's out of breath. My lips parted away from hers, my eyes still closed. I knew hers were too. My ears captured the soft breathing of her's in. She was trying to catch her breath as well.. wow.
Right then a huge group of claps were ringing against my ears. I shot open my eyes, just to face her red face and everyone around us clapping. Shit. This is not ok. I looked at her delicate and beautiful self, still held close in my arms. She was all red.. maybe out of embarrassment? I've heard my sister say many times that a female's first kiss is very important to her. Right then she opened her eyes, staring at me with those pretty olive coloured eyes of hers, making me feel things I never should have felt.
I quickly stepped away from her. The guilt and sadness took over me as our eyes met. She had a questioning look in her eyes, which was pretty normal of her's to have. Unable to speak up due to the limp I felt in my throat, I gave her an apologic look and bowed slightly before running away to God knows where.
Indeed I heard her calling out for me from the behind, but it was of no use.
