I suggest you use platforms with algorithms that can easily make small writers attract readers, like Scribble Hub or AO3.
The examples I just mentioned has an algorithm where the novels with the latest updates can get homepage treatment. It gives all authors a fair chance for their works to become popular.
Compared to MangaToon which (forces) makes the author spend money on gifts to get their novels on the rankings and hopefully attract readers. If it isn't like that, then the author is already popular within the community.
Why did I say forces, because it literally does force you to spend money or points on gifts to get on the rankings. Otherwise your novel would never be popular, or at least not that popular.
I still upload my novels on MangaToon because I also want a chance to get on the rankings. But I know that it won't most likely happen, so I cross-upload/publish my novels.
I still write on MangaToon because it's the neatest writing engine, I've seen/used so far.
The fact that MangaToon requires novels to be 500 words long per chapter, when it clearly can be around 300-400.
MangaToon's requirements for homepage treatment is quite harsh, 20,000 words in a month just to get on the last page of the homepage that almost no one scrolls down to is just sad.
Therefore, MangaToon is not beginner author friendly platform. But I have a hot take about the novels on the rankings. Most of the titles looks like they were stuck in 2018 or 2020. It's already 2023 are we not done with the transmigration/rebirth/revenge/mafia novels. Like guys why is there not anything new??
If you're just going down into the rabbit hole of novels. Go to Novel Updates, You will definitely see better stuff than those mediocre novels on the rankings of MangaToon.
But I don't blame the authors, it just depends on experience. Most of them are probably just newbie writers who got popular. But if I were to recommend someone's works on this platform, it's definitely MistyPlume's works. It's really really good.
I would definitely love to see MistyPlume do a BL Novel, but it's highly unlikely though. Since almost (if not all) of their novels are BG (Boy X Girl)
Plus, I don't read any comics on MangaToon except for BL because most of the new comics released are things that I've seen before with exact same plot style, just different characters.
And one more thing, are we not going to talk about how some authors literally just copy paste CN (Chinese) Mary Sue Novels? I bet they just copy pasted it on MangaToon from an aggregator (Piracy) website. Who didn't even do the translation.
How do I have the guts to say it, because I read that type of sh*t during class from an aggregator (Piracy) website. But I stopped reading those things now.
Now thank you for listening to my rant. But it's quite ironic that I am literally using MangaToon to criticize MangaToon.
