It's not easy being a middle child specially when you're the middle child of 7, and even hard when your family royalty. But this was the fate of Arabella Tornwall. She was not unremarkable in any way but when surrounded by 6 other remarkable people she blended in to the background, For she did not have the sword skill of her oldest brother, but she could wield a sword well enough, she did not have the beauty or charm of her older twin sisters, but she was beautiful enough, she was not as skill as her younger brother was at magic, but she could still hold her own, she cared for people in need but not as much as her younger sister and her younger brother who captured the heart of her parents the way she never could.
So with this she became the princess that was good enough and then eventually forgot.
But this worked in her favor for this mean she did not have to attend the stuffy gathering host thought-out the week and her present was not missed, mean she had freedom in a way the other Princess and Princesses did not have.
This is where are story beings in year 987, in the far west of the place garden under a large oak tree, sit a Arabella petting a snow-white rabbit.
'I should head in' softly whispering to the rabbit as she has seen the sunset in the distance. Realizing the rabbit she slowly walks back to the castle and in the main dinning hall where her family gather each night. Making her way to the dining hall she takes in the picture of there family from generation to generation till she arrives at hers family portrait, there her whole family stands clear as day but she blends in to the background once again with her stand to the far right of the portrait hid in her family's shadow.
Not wanting to look at the portrait no more she continues to the dinning room, when arriving at the large door she can already hear them eating and chat yet again starting without as she looked to the clock that down the hall she that dinner was not supposed to start for another 10 min. Standing there try to gather her courage to enter the hall and finally confront them on forgetting her once again she pushes the door open and like normal no looks her way.
' You start without me again' Try to get her voices heard she repeats her self, yet again they do not lance at her, it almost like she is invisible to them. With a defeated sigh she takes her seat at the end of the table.
She finishes her plate before the rest and the takes her leave without saying a single word.
As she makes her way back up to her room she silently wishes that for once they saw her or even take note that she was there. When she reaches the west tower, she began to sob, with know the fact that no one else came to this part of the castle for only here room was located here the rest of her family's was in the east wing of the place. A few years ago the place went under restoration, and she had to move to the west tower while this was happening but the yet again forgot and never moved her back. After climbed the stairs she finally reaches her room, swinging open the door she takes it in, her large bed to left by her window her bathroom and wardrobe door on the right next to her desk and bookshelf and in the middle of the room sat two sofas and a coffee table in case someone came to visit which they never did. But there was something off about the room, the first thing was the snow-white rabbit she was petting earlier was now sat on her bed, the strange rabbit had been appearing in her room every night for the past two months at first she curious how it got there but now she just lad for the company.
The second thing however brought all her tears run back to her face, For her gaze landing on two presents rapped in white and tie with a red bow. As she walked up to the presents a card was place in front of them that read,
...'Happy 18th birthday Arabella'...
...'Happy 18th Birthday Arabella '...
All that could be heard throughout the west tower was the heartbreaking sods of poor Arabella as she looked upon her gift, the sender did not leave a note but she could gusset who left it. The only person in the place that knowledge her existences was her dear aunt Marbella, the woman who help name her and care for her, that was till she passed away 6 years ago, leaving her completely alone. As she gazed upon the gift the wrapping looked fade and so did the ribbon that were frying at the end.
Whipping her tears away she picked up the first box, when she removed the wrapping paper she found a large ornate maple jewelry box, inside was her aunts favorite jewelry, a small picture of the two of them the summer before she died and upon gazing the picture she realized that this was the last time she truly felt loved. Among these there was a beautiful ocean blue ribbon with a small bracelet and earrings that were make from sapphire wrapped inside. When seeing these warm her heart in a way it had not done in years.
Then she went to pick up the second box to find a letter stuck to the side, picking it up and putting it to the side before opening the next gift. Inside this one she found 5 books, the first book was a music book on the violin her secret pleasure, the book contains multiple songs, note and theory's. The second book was on the far west, her aunt have often frequent this place bring strange gift and story home with her, from the city of light. The third book was once sword fighting and different combat skills, there was a bookmark sticking out. Upon opening the book she realized the bookmark was place to the self-defense chapter. Laughing to her self as she read the little side note left by aunt 'I think you may need this'. She started taking up sword fighting after she turned 13. The fourth book was on magic, wild magic, that she was bad from doing when she was ten but continued to practice in secret. The final book was her aunt diary on her adventure around the globe.
Remembering the love her aunt felt for her, she gathers her courage she picks up the letter
'*Dear Ara,
As my time draws near, my thoughts are of you my beloved niece, the first time I held you in my arm I knew you were important even if my sister did not see it. There is not much I can do for you now as my time is coming to a close but one thing I can do is give you some of my knowledge, in my dairy you will find the things I have learned and experience over the years. In the box I have left you there is a hid compartment of gold and silver coins. For my greatest and finally wish is for you to be remembered, loved and to have a life that you find for yourself away from being the forgotten princess.
My advice is to travel the far west see the sight but as I know my sister and I have seen how they treated you in your first twelve years of life I encourage you to get revenge on those who have wronged you, and make them regret ignoring you. If you need help head to the white castle in the city of light and ask for Marco he will help.
With all my love and my last dying breath I wish you goodbye my love and light.
Your dear aunt Marbella.
P.s press the clover on the box.'
Whipping the tears that now filled her face once more she reopened the box to find a button on the inside of the box when she pressed it the middle sprang open revealing a pouch full of gold and silver. Gently folding the letter back up she placed it in the compartment, then close the box back up. When closing the lid she noticed a small clover on the top. When she taped it the box quickly shrink in to a small four leave clover charm. When she tapped the charm the box returned to its original shape like nothing had happened.
As she got up from the floor a wave of tiredness roll over her like a wave on a beach and as she collapse on to her bed and slipped inro a deep slumber she had completely forgotten adout the rabbit still sat in wait on her bed*.
Upon waking Arabella eye were heavy and sore and her face was red for the crying the night before. As she began to dress she recalled the word her aunt had said and what path she would walk down.
Once she was dress her resolve was set to give her family one last chance, if she was ignored she would leave and never look back but if they saw her she would stay. She could think of committing revenge again her family for they were still her family. As she claimed down the stairs and towards the dinning hall the castle was fill a voice unlike ever before. Opening the grand door she found her family all gather, laughter fill the hall. But the moment the saw her it came to a stop the cold gaze of her mother and father fell on to her.
'Your late again, well at least you showed up. There is going to be a ball tonight. You are expected to be there' her mother said.
This was the first time in years they had directly spoken to her, and a ball the day after her birthday, Arabella hoped that maybe they got the date mix up and they were hold one for her but then her father opened his mouth.
' Tonight is to celebrate your older sister achievements, you will end to show your face at the start of the evening then go away straight after that, and for god’s sake do not embarrass are family.' The cold words settle in, they truly had forgotten her birthday, and they saw her as nothing more that something that should be hidden away.
Holding back her tears, with a weak voice she repelled' Of course your highness' she had once made the mistake of calling him father which lead to her being hit in face and sent to the dungeons for a week. Quickly turning on her heel she fled the hall.
As she made her way down the corridor toward the kitchen to retrieve some food, she heard the clicking of heels behind her, two sets perfectly in time. She knew who was behind her before for she even turned her. Her older twin sisters, towering over in there persistent dress and the gold hair gently draping over their shoulders. The only way to tell them apart is that Gen prefers green and Julie prefers purple.
' We don't want you there' they said in time after they look her up and down.
'you're a disaster wating to happen. I mean look at you' Gen spat
' I promise that you will not even see me just let me attend please' Arabella bagged she did not want to be isolated in the west tower again when her family is hosting a ball, the one social even she likes.
'To bad you had a fall before the ball and no one could find you. Well let's be honest no one would even look for you' as Julie spat her words at Arabella she was slowly backed towards the stairs that led down to the basement.
' That would be sad' and as they said there words together once again then push her.
As Arabella tumbles down the stairs in to the dungeons all she could her was the laughter of her sisters as they lock the door behind her and the was a almighty crash as she hid the floor. She she began to collect she saw the cut along her arms and leg and the bruise that started to for. For what felt like day that was intact hours she sat in the dungeon. For the first hour she cried and screamed begging for her to be let out but it was to no avail she continued to do this till her throat when dry. After give up and no longer having tears to cry she sat in solitude, the dungeons had not been used for years as that was there were the abandoned remains and a few rats, there was no light, no windows, just nothing but darkness. Finally after hours alone she heard a faint laugh and the sound of a door click unsure if it was her mind playing tricks on her or if she was actually free she slowly crawled to the door push it open.
Running back to the safety of her room she ran in to her father and mother leaving the ball. Fury took hold of their eye when they set there gaze upon her not a single slivers of worry see in their eye.
Slap, her father hand came down quick and hard across her face. Her mother yelling in rage 'WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU, YOU ONCE AGAIN EMBARRASSED ARE FAMILY. YOU A DISAPPOINTMENT, LOOK AT YPUR SELF, I HOPE I EVER LAY MY EYE ON YOU AGAIN.'
there was not use pleading with them for all she could feel was the familer pain of her father slap across her face. not wanting a second beating she ran to her room and as she did she chose a different path, the path there aunt would of wanted her to go down the path of revenge again her whole family.
