According to the Chinese mythological account Classic of Mountains and Seas, Chi You with the giants, Jiuli tribes and evil spirits, rebelled against the Yellow Emperor at Zhuolu plains. Both sides used magical powers but Chi You had the advantage of forged swords and halberds. Using his powers, Chi You covered the battlefield in thick fog. Only with the help of a magical compass chariot the Yellow Emperor's troops found their way through the mist.
He also used his daughter "Nuba", the drought demon, to counter Chi You's tactics and harm Chi You's troops. Later on, Chi You suffered more defeats and was captured, he was either slain by Yinglong (Responsive Dragon) or Nuba who could not return to heaven.
"Ba is the daughter of the Yellow Emperor Huang-di whom she aided during his battle at Zhuolu against Chi You and she lived in a place called the Terrace of Gonggong located in Sikun mountain, in the north. She is two or three chis in height, dressed in green clothes and walks as fast as the wind. Her appearance is similar to a normal mortal.
After Chi You has fielded a wind god (Feng Bo) and a rain god (Yu Shi), Ba descended from heaven to use her drought power to defeat their wind and rain powers. She is one of the first goddesses attested to Chinese literature, appearing in the early collection of poetry, the "Shijing", as well as in the later "Shanhaijing"-Classic of Mountains and Seas.
"Nuba" or "Hanba" can be considered to be an ancient chinese mythical drought demon. After having descended from heaven to aid Huang-di at Zhuolu, instead of returning to heaven and stay in one place how she was instructed, Ba wandered to the northern parts of the earth. After Shujun, the Cultivation god, complained, Ba should have lived by the Red River but she made her way around the world. Since she caused drought, no one wanted her near and so they tried to chase her away. Wherever Ba appeared, there would be a drought.
It's up to the folk people to say if she is considered a blessing or a calamity to their world, so the humans start to pray for a good year without drought.
As she wanders the world, carelessly but with pain in her heart, Ba hurts her foot in an animal trap made by humans. She becomes unable to easily walk so she searches for a place where she can rest and heal her wound. An empty cave looks like an ideal place for her future stay, it can be a good shelter in the bad days.
She actually finds one at the borderline of a forest and a small village. Just as you exit the forest, a wide field appears in front and there's the village located. A thin line of water that passes by the cave, descends from the forest and crosses the village. The small settlement is surrounded by tall grass, many peaches and flowers.
During the summer and autumn nights you can see many little shining bugs flying around that place, especially along the course of the water.
It is a small beautiful place that can be compared with the gardens from the nine heavens.
Ba spends her first moments in the cave being unable to move around too much because of the huge pain felt in her right leg but the next day when the sun arises, she grabs a wooden stick and gets out to find medical herbs and food. The herbs are found in the forest but she can not find any ripped fruit around, so she goes down a little towards the field with peaches that surrounds the human settlement.
She barely manages to pick up some fruits when a dog starts barking at her and approaches with the speed of the light. As powerful as a deity can be, the poor girl is unable to defend herself against this small threat and she suddenly collapses on ground. If she would not have her powers to create a barrier of energy around herself, the crazy dog would have jumped on her. Unfortunately, it seems that after the battle with Feng Bo and Yu Shi, Hanba has lost a part of her powers and the recovery process is slow.
Weakened by her leg injury she can't hit the dog or push him away, so she can only wait for the little creature to run out of energy and give up his stubbornness. Time passes but the dog doesn't leave, he sits down with the muzzle on the paws and carefully stares at her as if he would say: "you can't get away from me, I caught you". Such a boring dog!
It is almost evening and the stupid dog did not move an inch. He was still insistantly staring at his catch and did not stop from barking for a second. Suddenly, the voice of a child is heard while some steps are fastly approaching their direction. The child is calling a dog's name, LuLu.
"LuLu, LuLu, where are you? Come out now
or you will not receive drumsticks today!"
The dog finds himself in a huge dilemma because he doesn't know what to do: to leave his prey and go to his master or to keep watching the thief. Until he takes a decision, many tears flow from his undecided eyes. In the end he starts barking more aggressively to signal his location.
"Now, my master will definitely find me, he thinks proudly of his achievement!"
Actually, Ba, could understand many languages, even the language of these non-speaker creatures, so she understood the dog's thoughts from the very beginning till the end.
The little child pops out from the tall green grass and appears in front of Ba and apparently his crazy dog.
"Here you are LuLu, I searched for you everywhere but barely found you here! You're in trouble big guy!"
LuLu barks three times, spins two times, waves his tail thousands of times and points the thief with his wet nose trying to show his master the reason why he disappeared and didn't go home early.
The child finally realizes that a young and beautiful woman sits down on the grass with her leg wounded. He angrily looks at LuLu and yells, "What have you done, you crazy dog?", while trying to support the victim.
"I'm so sorry miss! Did he bite you?"
"Oh, no! Not at all! I was already hurt when he stalled me, I hurt my leg yesterday. He just tried to stop me from picking some fruits, that's all!"
"How many times have I told you LuLu? The peaches aren't only for our villagers, they are for every hungry soul that passes by! We will not be poor if a few are missing!"
The dog bows his head and begins to lament. In that moment, he was thinking that his good intention was misunderstood and he is unfairly treated but the child suddenly smoothes his white fur and says that he's sorry for yelling at him.
LuLu is back to his old self and fastly waves his tail many times.
"Miss, where are you living? I will help you go home, as compensation for the delay created by LuLu."
"Actually, it's ok! You don't have to do this, I can walk."
"But I insist! At least let me clean my conscience in this way."
Ba acceptes his help and after he collects the peaches scattered on the ground, they leave toward the place where she points her finger.
