To learn Korean first we must start with Korean alphabets

Hangul is the official alphabet system of the Korean language. It was invented by King Sejong the Great in 1443 and is considered one of the most scientific writing systems in the world.

What does hangul mean?

한 (han) means ‘Korean’ and 글 (geul) means ‘letter’.

There are 24 letters in the Korean alphabet:
14 consonants and 10 vowels.

There are compound consonants and vowels too, We form them by combining the basic consonants and vowels. 👇

Therefore, if you understand the basic consonants and vowels, of which there are just twenty-four, you can basically read everything in Korean.

When students first begin learning the alphabet it is helpful to remember that
all consonants are designed to represent the shape the mouth will make as you pronounce it. 😙

And all vowels are designed using horizontal or vertical strokes.

Unlike in English, in which you just write one letter after another in a straight line to form words,
In Korean you form a square or a block for each syllable.
For example:
If you want to write the English name “Sam,” it’s three letters written one after another in a line,
but in Korean, it’s 샘, one letter, composed of three parts, written in a square.

Here is an example of how you can compose a word in korean.
ㅎ +ㅏ + ㄴ = 한 (han)
ㄱ + ㅜ + ㄱ = 국 (guk)

In Korean the two vowel symbols ㅏ and ㅗ are called "bright vowels" as they sound sonorous to native Korean speakers.
The other vowels derived from them are also called "bright vowels" which are ㅙ, ㅘ, ㅐ.

The dark vowels are the opposite and compose of ㅓ, ㅜ.
The neutral vowels are ㅣ, ㅡ.

If you look carefully at aspirated consonants like ㅋ and its unaspirated form ㄱ,
or the aspirated ㅌ and its unaspirated form ㄷ,
you’ll note that the aspirated ones have an extra stroke in them.

This represents the puff of air released from your mouth as you say it.
Hangul was made so easy and instinctive, even the characters tell you how to produce the sound!

When you practice these sounds, you need to practice them in pairs.
Pronounce the unaspirated one, followed by the aspirated version.
This will allow you to hear the difference between them.
If you want, you can put a hand in front of your mouth so you get a feel. 🗣️✋
Even better, put a candle in front of your mouth and notice when the flame flickers. 🗣️🕯️

There are five double consonants: ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ and ㅉ.
They already look very familiar to you
Because they’re “twice” the consonants ㄱ,ㄷ,ㅂ,ㅅ and ㅈ respectively.

As double consonants, these are pronounced with a little more stress compared to the plain unaspirated ones.

You need to practice unaspirated consonants with their doubles.

If aspirated consonants are a bit higher and louder than non-aspirated ones,
The double consonants produce tense, closed sounds by closing the airway and tightening the tongue.
