"I'm almost there, I'm almost there," That's what I said to my boss on the cellphone. . I'm Joy Natividad and I work as a PR
Officer at Publicity Manila, a public relations agency. I was assigned to be the personal assistant of a South Korean Idol who is now in the Philippines. My boss is angry because i was half an hour late to meet the client at his hotel. This is the day that my ordinary life will change.
From the backseat of my taxi I peeked out the window outside. I took a deep breath when I saw that my taxi ride along EDSA traffic had not come up since before. I was starting to panic. I am still in Ortigas and i will meet my client at the Manila Peninsula Hotel.
"Oh, com'on, Joy. You're thirty minutes late," the disappointment in my boss and to his boss became even more apparent as he added panic to me.
"I'm-I'm sorry," I said sincerely, biting my lower lip. I was running out of excuses. I should have chosen to ride the MRT earlier. "I'm caught in the middle of the raffic."
"The Koreans are very strict when it comes to punctuality, Joy. Your sorry won't–" I took my cellphone out of my jeans pocket. "H-hello?
Hello, Joy?
"I'm sorry, boss, but you're dropping out. Bad signal - "I said and hung up. It seemed that I was breathing out to release the stress on my shoulders. I didn't want to hear what my boss had to say to me that only added tension to me.
This job was not really for me. If Eunice had not been rushed to the hospital this morning
due to dengue, this would not have been the case for me.
And just in the morning I was called by the office so that I could take over and meet with the Korean client to be a personal assistant during the days that the
Korean resides in the Philippines. Even though it hurts inside me that from PR I've been demoted for being personal assistant that there's nothing I can do. I'm just new to the company and it's still a job that I need.
I don't know much about client profile. All I had was a name. I can't even pronounce it. Well, of course, besides it's Korean he speaks and understands English, and a close friend of its manager is the Korean CEO of the
Company I work for.
I brushed back my thick bangs and blew out a frustrated breath. and I asked the driver. "Sir, does the aircon working?"
I adjusted my twisted eyeglasses in front of the taxi to see how long the traffic was ahead of us.
And then as an answered prayer, the traffic went up and the taxi running again.
Oh, thank God!
