As they say summer usually comes with flowers, sun and fun events.

But they never talk about love during summer,

Summer has always seemed to be time to spend with your family and friends, and not with a lover.

Not until now at least..

'Kuromi, wake up! We’re going to be late to meet with auntie rene!”

Kuromi tussled out of bed, her brown hair russled like a birds nest.

'Okay mum! Down in a second!”

She rummaged through her wardrobe, trying to find something to wear, she wasn’t a big fan on summer, so most of her clothes were winter clothes, so it was a fight to find something that was actually suitable.

She chose a pink lace top, with a small pleated skirt, which she pulled on, as her mum was still calling telling her to hurry up.

Once she had finished, she grabbed a bag, and ran down the stairs.

'Goodness me child, if I hadn’t called you, you would still be asleep!'

Kuromi tilted her head away 'haha, sorry mum’

‘Well! Come on then, your aunt is not going to wait much longer!'

Her aunt wasn’t very interesting, all her and her mum talked about was there kids growing up, and that good times don’t last forever, so she just walked off.

She took a stroll to a nearby garden that she liked to sit in and watch the world go by, because there wasn’t much else to do.

As she sat on a little wooden bench, she saw her.

A beautiful girl, with green lily eyes, and dazzling blonde hair, she was in awe.

The girl looked at the heartstruck girl confused, she looked like she had passed out with her eyes open.

‘Excuse me miss, are you okay?'

Even her voice was beautiful!

'Yea-h-h, oh, yeah I’m alright!'

'Hm, alright.. uh I’d suggest you don’t look at people like that, it’s quite.. creepy!'

Kuromi looked at her in shock 'ahah, sorry sorry!'

'No it’s fine, what’s your name?'

“Ah, kuromi'

'What a lovely name, my names lizzie, it’s great to meet you!'

Kuromi smiled at the girl ‘it’s a pleasure to meet you too!'

The girls began to talk, as they sat side by side on the bench, in summer.

They say that love doesn’t come in summer, but my only love did.

However, with love.. comes pain.

And my only love died in summer, died in my own arms

In summer.

As the girls talked, they began to find out more about each other.

Things they like to do, things they like to eat, and things they do daily.

But, Kuromi also found out that lizzy had a life threatening illness, that could leave her dead at any moment.

'Yeah, but it’s fine' lizzy grinned at the shocked girl ‘isn’t it better to live your life in no fear, to live life to its fullest!'

Kuromi sighed at the girl 'but aren’t you worried, like at all?'

'Well who wouldn’t we worried? But one day I’ll die anyway, if it’s sooner then I should live life without thinking about the future!'

They sat there in silence for a few seconds, in pure awkward silence, until Lizzy spoke up.

‘ Could I have your number?'

'Oh, yea-h-h'

They exchanged numers—-

‘ I better be off, my mum gets worried if I don’t come home before 6!'

'Yeah, same.'

'See you around?'

Kuromi nodded at the smiling girl.

The girls parted, with feelings thriving inside of Kuromi.

5 days later

She loved this girl. She loved everything about this girl.

She was fearless.

She was kind.

She was just so amazing.

But, there was one problem.

What future would they have.

Kuromi sat and thought about this, there was a possibility that she could die at any time, which could cause many problems for her well-being.

‘Kuromi, are you alright? You’ve been like this for the past few days. I’m starting to worry..'

Kuromi snapped out of her trance 'oh. Sorry mum! I was thinking about something.'

'Well, come downstairs, it’s dinner time!'

‘Alright, I’m coming down now.'

After dinner, she decided to message Lizzy, inviting her for a day out.

Kuromi took her phone out to check for a message.

She thought to herself 'where is she, we were supposed to meet here half a hour ago.'

As she thought that, she saw her glowing blonde hair in the distance.

‘I’m so sorry to leave you waiting!'

'Oh, no it’s fine! I wasn’t waiting long.'

Lizzy smiled at the girl 'soo, what do you want to do first?'

'I heard there was a new cafe in the area! I wondered if you would try it out with me?'

'Oh I love cafes! Of course I’ll go to visit it with you!'

As they walked into the cafe, they were greeted by a smiling waiter

'Hello guys, what can I help you with today?'

Kuromi smiled back at the waiter 'could I have a table for two please?'

'Of course! Follow me!'

As they sat down, Lizzy grinned as she looked around the cafe 'this is such a pretty cafe! I love how it’s flower themed!'

‘ You like flowers?'

'Yeah!'

Kuromi plucked a flower out of her bag, and gave it to the shocked girl ‘I bought it while I was waiting for you, I thought it would look nice in your hair… and look! I bought one for myself so we can match!'

Lizzy looked at the girl in shock 'oh! It’s beautiful, thank you!'

'No problem it looks—'

The waiter disrupted there moment

‘Hiya guys! Can I take your order?'

'What do you want Lizzy?'

'Ooh, can I have a cup of blossom tea, and a strawberry tart?'

'Of course! And you?'

‘I’ll just have a iced tea.'

‘Alright! I’ll be back with your order soon!'

Lizzy and Kuromi talked for a while before Lizzy had a sudden panic.

'Ahh, my head..'

Lizzy fainted

'LIZZY!'

Kuromi waited, and waited for what felt like forever, like she was trapped in some sort of illusion.

“is she going to be okay? Is she going to be okay?” Repeated in her mind like a drum.

Suddenly, Lizzys eyes began to flicker meeting with Kuromis as she woke up.

“Lizzy!” Kuromi squealed, as she was overjoyed that she was okay.

“Oh no, how long have I been out? Has my mum been contacted? Sorry Kuromi! I didn’t expect for that to happen!”

“Oh no! It’s not your fault, no need to apologise! I’m glad your okay!”

Lizzy was used to hospitals.

hospital beds.

the crying.

the laughing.

the ticking of the clock

That was a sound she heard the most in the hospital.

No one was ever there for her, no one worried for her.

In those months, her, the hospital bed, and the clock.

For months.

lizzy didn’t talk to Kuromi for weeks.

Lizzy was scared that like everyone else, Kuromi would leave, and Lizzy would be alone again.

Lizzy belived that if she didn’t build a relationship with Kuromi, no one would get hurt.

However Kuromi was hurting, she thought she had done something wrong, or said something wrong.. she wasn’t sure why Lizzy was avoiding her.

So she waited, and waitied at the spot they met.

For weeks and weeks, but Lizzy never showed up, no matter how long Kuromi waited, no matter how much she begged for just a glimpse of that blonde hair, Lizzy never showed.

But one day, on a spring evening, Lizzy appeared.

She saw that glistening blonde hair that she missed, and those pale green eyes, that were once full of life.

Where was the life in lizzys eyes? Where had it gone? Where had the fun, kind, smart Lizzy gone?

“Kuromi?”

“Lizzy?

“Oh kuromi, sorry, I need to go. Bye.”

“Lizzy! Wait!”

“Kuromi! No, I actually need to go!”

“Lizzy! Stop! Why are you avoiding me?”

“Kuromi I can’t hurt you! Why don’t you understand im hurting you! I hurt everyone i meet! They hurt me! I don’t want to hurt anyone again! And I don’t want to be hurt!. Just leave me be!

“Lizzy… your not hurting me… I care about you! It’s hurt me that you’ve avoided me all these weeks. I dont understand why you would think I would hurt you. I’ll never leave you Lizzy! I care, don’t you see?”

“Oh, Kuromi.”

Lizzy ran over to Kuromi and grabbed her for a hug, she started sobbing into her shoulder.

Lizzy had held back all of these emotions for years, only just letting them out.

“Hey Lizzy, it’s okay!”

Kuromi took lizzys hand.

“Let’s go to my place okay?”

“Yeah, okay!”

“I can introduce you to my mum! She’ll be really happy to know I have actual friends! Haha!”

Friend…

But.

Lizzy wanted to be more then a friend…

All these emotions that came over Lizzy like a waterfall.

Was it really possible, I mean Kuromi would never like me? I’m a wreck of a person…

However, Lizzy was completely wrong.

Because Kuromi fell first.
