When the darkness was almost done swallowing the remaining light of the day, a thunder's mighty roar echoed throughout the heavens. Behind it, lighting strucked like it was opening a huge chasm in the sky.
It was supposedly a good day and rain didn't pour. The strange phenomenon brought different reactions from those who witnessed it.
Fear, excitement and bliss.
Whatever their reactions may be, they all knew, it was a sign. A sign that the world, as they all knew was about to change.
In the West territory's palace on the other hand, inside a dark chamber, a certain Empress' scream reverberated through its walls.
"Where the hell am I?"
Woke Up
Inside the empress' chamber, the strong clash of lightning and thunder woke Shane up from her deep slumber. She looked around trying to look for anything familiar but to no avail.
" Strange". She tried so hard to reminisce that last scene when her suicidal friend jumped off the building they were residing in until her head hurt. She recounted so hard that cold sweat trickled down her forhead. Her memory was so vivid that she could only see herself falling off that same building, following her friend. The memory made her body tremble that she gasped for air to breathe. Her lungs seemed to be constricted as if she just woke up from a terrible nightmare.
"Where the hell am I?" She screamed.
Footsteps were heard nearing her chamber.
"Sto - " Before she could utter a word to prevent anyone from entering her chamber, the door was already opened and what greeted her were faces of tens of pale looking servants, staring at her in disbelief.
"Why are they looking at me like I'm some kind of a ghost?" She thought.
" Your majesty please command." They bowed in front of her with their heads reaching the floor.
" What is going on? Is this some kind of a play? No. I am supposed to be dead. Then what?" While the servants waited for her command, quick thoughts flashed through her head. A call center agent might have been looked down on by others but how wrong they were. Agents had to think fast and utilized every single tool given. Years of practice made most of the agents quick-witted and resourceful.
" I transmigrated." Her drawn out conclusion hit the mark.
" Go out." She struggled to make her voice as authoritative as she could, just exactly how she would when dealing with difficult customers.
The servants raised their heads, looked at each other's panic-sticken face. Their slender bodies trembled and Shane's heart was struck when they knocked their heads on the cold floor. Fresh red blood flowed and created a beautiful contrast against the spotless white tiled floor. Before Shane could even decide whether to admire the masterpiece or to close her eyes in horror, their screams woke her up from her prior stupor.
" We don't dare!"
How could Shane understand that the Empress, the body she mysteriously pocessed was just confirmed dead. A few moments later, they just heard her scream, sending chills through their very soul.
" Just leave me alone and clean the blood! I just woke up and need to think." Although they didn't know exactly what happened to their empress, wasn't it better that she lived? That way, they would be able to escape the inevitable death once her powerful family found out her death.
"Dead is bad, alive is good." They comforted their selves that they even forgot their wounds. Earlier, they almost cleaned their necks. Since they failed to protect her majesty, there was only one fate awaited them. Death. Now that she's alive and well, they just had to be happy.
Back in the chamber, Shane struggled to organize her thoughts. Earlier, she seemed to have scenes played inside her head. At first, she was confused as she knew those scenes weren't part of her memories but a sudden event in her past life reminded her that such phenomenon sometimes happens.
She closed her eyes and realized that she transmigrated into a strange world and in the body of this territory's empress.
Once the memories were successfully organized, she took a deep breath and opened her eyes. Inside the beautiful emerald orbs, flashed an unshakeable resolve.
" I must do everything to survive. Isn't my survival ability my strongest trait?"
What did she see in the dead Empress' memories?
What would she do?

"Let's get a divorce." These were the words Shane heard as she entered the study while papers came flying at her face. Upon looking, the papers turned out to be divorce documents. Amidst it all, she was neither shocked nor did she feel remorse. She merely sat down comfortably as if these words were nothing but fart. Besides, for her, this thing happened as she expect it would.
If it was a different person, she would have already cried and kneeled down begging this man to have the marriage kept. In this world where men could still live as if nothing happened while divorced women would be treated worse than pigs, those women would rather die than experience a life worse than death. I would say any other woman would choose death but her. She was unlike your ordinary girl.
First, she wasn't exactly the person this man was demanding divorce from. The man's wife has died exactly 2 weeks ago and that was also the time Shane Abegail Castro's soul from the 22nd century transmigrated into this world and occupied the body of this man's wife, Chattel Joy Silverstein. Second, she hated the man with every bit of her being that she even wanted to cut this man's flesh a million times over and feed them to the beasts.
"So hateful!" She thought.
What ever her inner thoughts were, her face remained calm. Two weeks ago, she was just an ordinary 27 years old call center agent who worked for her family. But on one fateful night, her roommate/college friend jumped off the apartment building they were residing in. Out of panic, in her attempt to save her suicidal friend, she lost her rationality and jumped off the building, which led to her death.
She may just be an ordinary Filipino citizen in her past life but she inherited not just the empress' looks but all of her memories as well. Shane couldn't even help but admire the woman's vast knowledge.
Based on the memories she gained, this place was called Westeria Empire. The western territory of this continent.
So ironic. Her suicidal friend, Hannah used to tell her stories about the books she read about transmigration and reincarnation. She could still remember how Hannah's eyes would sparkle while narrating those stories. To be honest, she found it annoying. In the end, she transmigrated into this world.
Thankfully, no matter how silly she considered those stories were, she still listened. So, when she awoke into this strange world filled with martial arts and magic, she was able to cope up from her initial shock pretty well.
Going back, I knew you would be wondering who had eaten the leopard's guts to have the nerve to divorce her. This man was nothing really. He, Alexander Luke Westeria was merely the most prestigious Emperor of this empire. Nothing special. As his wife, she was nothing but the country's mother, the Empress.
"Fine. On three conditions." She leaned her back on the chair and acted as if their divorce was merely an ordinary event, nothing to fuss about.
Something flashed in the emperor's eyes. No matter if it was shock or disdain, she couldn't careless. To be honest, her desire for divorce was a thousand times more than this man's. She wanted her freedom. She hated the paperwork and she hated this man so much that her rage seemed to be eating away her life. The sooner she leaves this hell, the better. Why would she spend her lifetime rotting away in this cold palace? Why would she waste her spring waiting for this man's affection? Hell no!
"Care to enlighten this emperor?" He looked at her while raising his left brow. Disdain was evident in his eyes as if saying, " Presumptuous! What right do you have to demand conditions in front of this emperor?"
Noticing his expression, she frowned. So arrogant! Her hatred towards this man seemed to be like a lava, currently boiling in the pits of her stomach. A few more raise in temperature, she would blow up.
This was the first time she met this man. Two weeks ago, the original empress drank this country's most potent poison. She was thought to be dead but was miraculously saved. Little did they know that she really died. and was only replaced by Shane's soul.
Since her body was weak, she was advised to rest. It was a life and death case but not only did this man not visit her, he even wanted to depose of her! How shameless! Didn't he know he was the one who pushed the late empress to her death? Didn't he know that the empress' life here was even worse than hell that she would rather choose death than to live in this place? How sad the empress was? How ashamed she was, loosing her dignity as the only lady of the powerhouse Silverstein family and offering her family member's lives in the hands of this cruel monarch for the sake of an unrequited love?
The more she thinks, the more her rage burned turning the previously boiling lava into lava waves.
"Surely you weren't thinking I would simply agree to the divorce right? After all, we have been husband and wife for five years." This sentence meant that he was either shameless for asking her to abdicate the empress' throne or stupid in thinking he could depose of her without any consequence.
Of course he wasn't stupid. Neither would he admit himself as someone shameless nor would he make this bitch think he's stupid. Although he really expected this bitch to agree without any fuss as he knew she wouldn't want to cause trouble for her family, he's the emperor! This empire's highest sovereign! How dare she call him shameless? How dare she call him stupid?
"This girl has great guts! Hmmp. Endure. I'll just get her agree and let's see how arrogant this bitch would be after the divorce. So stupid! Does she think she can still live after being looked down on not only by the nobles but the commoners and peasants alike?" Of course these were words he wouldn't say as he still needed this bitch's agreement.
"Naturally. So, what are your conditions?" The emperor endured his anger and said between gritted teeth.
"First, I demand my family's complete separation from the imperial power." Her face was very calm and she spoke those words in a slow buy very clear manner.
"What do you mean by that?" The seated emperor almost stood in shock.
"Since your majesty didn't get this lowly commoner's literal meaning, I will speak in his majesty's language."
"Bitch! You're calling yourself, a noble lady from a powerful family a lowly commoner to mock this emperor as someone stupid! How dare you! You even have the audacity to tell this emperor you're going to speak in this emperor's language as if this emperor is the lowly one and that you would need to adjust to this emperor's lowly level! This bitch is really too hateful!" But then again, how could he speak these words? He wasn't that stupid to shred all pretenses without getting the divorce he wanted.
A mocking grin rose in her lips. " I will say it in simple words for his majesty to understand." Surely, she was mocking the stupid emperor. "I want my family to cut ties with you. After the divorce, we will no longer be related to you in any way and will be free to return back to our territory. "
"Impossible!" The emperor's voice echoed throughout the study.
No matter how much he wanted the divorce, this emperor wasn't stupid. How could he allow himself to lose the Silverstein Family?
"My respect towards his majesty matches that of the heavens! Surely, the monarch this lowly one respects isn't someone shameless as to expect this lowly one's family's hundred percent loyalty after throwing divorce papers at this, Silverstein family's only lady's face ah! What would my father and brothers do once words reach their ears? This is making this empress' heart worry ah!"
Using different addresses, from lowly commoner to the Silverstein family's only lady to her exact title, the Empress planted fear in the emperor's heart. She was mocking him for being shameless and at the same time reminding him of her status. She was the empress! How dare he treat her like how he would treat his lowly concubines? The late empress wasn't someone overbearing but that didn't mean she would be the same.
The Empress was 14 when they were married and after 5 years of being husband and wife (without doing the deed), how could he forget that this woman's father and brothers weren't vegetarians? How could he forget that he got their support because of this stupid bitch and if they would indeed discover that their beloved lady suffered injustice in his hands, the consequence wouldn't be something he can afford ah! He feared not only would he lose his throne but his life as well!
Also, he got her message. Since he had the guts to throw divorce papers at her face, he no longer have any chance for retreat. He could only push the divorce forward while walking on thin ice barefooted while paying for the consequences of his actions.
"This bitch would definitely suck him dry! She acted like a rabbit for five years only to eat him whole today! So f*cking hateful!" He kept shouting in his mind. How could he know that the timid rabbit he bullied for years has died and has been replaced by someone from the 22nd century. She was originally timid but what happened to the empress made her realize that in this world where the strong eats the weak, to survive, she had to evolve from a rabbit into a black bellied beast.
