Meng linglang had two adopted daughters. One princess, one village girl. Although they had both been brought back from the village, she had an extreme bias towards Ning Rui. Ning Zihao had found out that his sister had an accident and died in the process while her child went to an orphanage. He had vowed to protect his sister's child so they adopted Ning Xi as well. Neither Ning Xi nor Ning Rui knew about Ning Xi's familial ties to the Ning family and even if they did, they probably wouldn't believe it considering how hostile Meng linglang had been to her. Ning Zihao also felt suspicious of Ning Rui considering the fact that she and Ning Xi were friends back when they were seven and were in the orphanage.
