Princess Charm School
Prelude
Narrator
Contrary to what some may have told you in the past, the hardest part of telling a story isn’t the ending, the climax, or the overall plot.
Narrator
The hardest part of telling a story is knowing where to begin.
Narrator
I’ve done my best to tell it as accurately as possible, and I hope you enjoy it.
Narrator
For this isn’t just any story...
Narrator
This story is mine.
The day had finally arrived.
Today was the day that she, Isabella, was going to be crowned Queen of Gardenia, the largest of the United Kingdoms. (Isabella always considered this funny given that Gardenia itself was a Queendom)
Isabella had thought of this day for a long time now. When she was younger she often fantasized about it much like most girls do about their future weddings.
She had picked out her dress (black velvet jumper with pink hearts), the cake (vanilla with lemon filling), and who would be her advisor (her best friend Suzie).
She imagined her parents beaming with pride happy to leave the kingdom to her and take a vacation.
By age fourteen, when she enrolled as a freshman in Princess Charm School, her fantasies were more realistic (she would not enter the ballroom on a unicorn), but still fantasies nonetheless.
As she got older, Isabella had amended her dream coronation appropriately. Trying to keep it as close to the entry she had made in her diary as possible, some change was inevitable. The dress she picked out at five no longer fit, and Suzie, or soon to be Princess Susan of Philadelphia, couldn’t be her advisor because she would have her own kingdom to take care of upon graduation.
The hardest change to her plan though, was not having her parents there.
They would not beam with pride, wish her luck, joke about retirement, say they were leaving Gardenia in her capable hands, or offer any other advice.
For by the time she was sixteen, both her parents had passed.
The Beginning
Queen Isabella looked at the crowd from the balcony and waved to her subjects after her closing speech for Founder’s Day.
She turned around and her husband greeted her with a kiss on the cheek careful to avoid smushing the pink bundle in his arms.
King Reginald
Great speech Iz.
Princess Sophia
Mama gud job
Queen Isabella
Let’s go downstairs and get into the carriage for the parade.
The close knit family of three walked through the seated crowd to board their carriage for the Founder’s Day Celebration Parade.
With eyes only for each other, none of them saw the person in the second row with lips curled into a sneer glaring at their backs with cold, unflinching eyes.
Ms. Willows
Come her sweetie. I’ll see if I can find your mommy for you.
Not knowing how the baby ended up on her doorstep, the kindhearted woman brought the child into her apartment.
Ms. Willows
Until I find your family for you what should I call you?
Ms. Willows
How about Blaire?
Ms. Willows
Well, you seem to like that.
As she shut the front door to her apartment and clicked the lock, she had no idea how long her surprise visitor was going to stay.
