A Sweet Summer's Taste

Prologue

Le Rave Bar

Valdoise, Paris

11:00PM

Jeanne just entered one of the famous bars in Valdoise. Her eyes quickly scanned the area to check for any familiar face. She is anxious while she is checking her phone from time to time. The banging sound from the dance floor makes her head hurts. There are so many people in the bar that night and it is hard to find the person she is looking for. She looked at her watch and it is already 15 minutes past eleven o'clock still, she cannot see the man she is looking for. Mostly the people that she is seeing are almost drunk and going crazy on the dance floor. She know's how to have to good time herself but now is not the right time for her to do so. She was there for a reason and that reason is making her anxious. She seemed to be absorbed with her thoughts and the message she received earlier that evening that almost gasped when she felt her phone vibrated on her hand. Somebody sent her a message.

"If you want to see him go to the Suite VIP 106"

The message came from an anonymous number. It was the, the same number that texted her earlier about the affair of her fiance, Alex and her childhood friend, Allie.

"This is it." She told herself. "The moment of truth is about to begin."

She took a deep breath as she make her way through the dance floor towards the VIP room that was texted to her.

============

It only took her a few minutes to find the VIP room. She can already hear the flirty music from the outside and some people giggling and laughing. She stood there for a few minutes, contemplating whether she will enter the room or not.

After several minutes of standing at the front of the door of Suite VIP 106 and after getting several weird glances from waiters and other clients passing by the hallway, Jeanne already made her decision.

"I've had enough of these bullshits and I don't want to look stupid in front of anyone anymore!!! If what this text tells me is true then I will end it now!"

Without further ado, she opened the door without even knocking and everyone inside the room froze at the sight of her. No one dares to utter a single word or even make a move. Everyone seems to be in shocked. Her peers, her so called friend and the man who promised to spend the rest of his life with her are all there and they seems to be having fun watching her friend fondling the chest of the man she ever loved.

"So... Alex..." She was the first one to break the silence but her voice trailed off as she doesn't know how to finish her sentence at all. She felt like all the blood in her body was drained out of her. She can hear her heart thumping loudly inside her chest. Her vision is starting to get cloudy from tears but she firmly hold her ground. Now is not the right time for her to grieve and look weak in front of those who made a fool out of her. Her whole body's trembling and she dare not to make a move as she doesn't want to make a scene at all. Dignity. That's the only thing she is holding on to herself right now.

"Jeanne..." said Alex, the man who's hand is still around the waist of the woman sitting beside her. He desperately looked around their friends who seems to avoid his eyes. All of them are feeling guilty towards Jeanne. None of them knows what to say at all. Alex who seems to finally come to his senses realized that he is still groping Allie and he suddenly pushed her away from him.

"What the heck Alex! What do you think you are doing?" Allie is obviously mad with the way Alex had treated her just a moments ago but Alex doesn't seems to hear her at all.

"Jeanne, it is not what you think it is." Alex, finally choked out.

"Well it seems like that you, my snakey childhood friend over there and together with some of our other friends are enjoying watching you guys having a tequilla body shot. Am I not right?" Jeanne tried to remain calm and even managed to gave out a sarcastic smile.

"It is just a game...." Alex tried in his defense.

"A game? Don't you f*cking kidding me. So does this means that you will be completely ok seeing me having someone else sip that shot right from my chest right?!!!!" Jeanne heatedly argued with Alex.

Her fiance can no longer answer and just looked down. It was a complete silence for the next couple of minutes and Jeanne decided to just walk away and leave it. There is no sense fighting for this anyway. This was not the first time Alex did this to her but she just turned a blind eye and gave him thousands of chances hoping that he will change but tonight is just too unbearable for her. Of all the people that her fiance would choose why her childhood friend. She loved the both of them from the bottom of heart. The pain in her heart is just too much and she cannot afford to hurt these two precious people in her life even if they have hurt her so she will just walk away and pretend that everyone in that room never existed in her whole entire life but as she was about to turn her back she heard Allie, her childhood friend talked.

"Why don't you just tell her the truth Alex? Why don't you just tell her the truth about us and how much you wanted to break off the engagement with her because she is not someone who could bring satisfaction in your life?! Tell her!"

Jeanne was taken aback a bit but instantly gained back her composure. She smirked while looking at her so called childhood friend. Hatred burning in her green eyes. "You know what Allie?" Jeanne was caressing the engagement ring that she is still wearing as she slowly walk forward towards her childhood friend who betrayed her, broke her heard and stole her man away. "When Alex, gave me thing ring, I was overwhelmed with happiness. Who wouldn't? I am wearing a very expensive Tiffany ring with an intense orange diamond in it.You know what..." She stopped right in front of her friend. "They said that diamonds can break through glasses. I wonder if they can break your face."

Before anybody could do or say anything, she already hit Allie's face with her left fist. The ring obviously left a good wound on her friend's face. Allie fell down on the floor. She obviously has the lower hand for being a bit tipsy from drinking earlier and for fighting the woman who is already flaring up in anger, pain and hatred. She tried to stand up even though she is feeling dizzy. She looked at Jeanne and saw that some of their friends already went between them to keep them at distance..

"Allie Seymour!!!! You should know better that messing up with me!. You know that I am not a kind person! I'll let the both of you go for old times sake but never ever cross me again!" Jeanne's eyes are full of anger and hatred while looking at her friend and her now ex- fiance. "If you badly wanted to be his wife, I don't mind!. Go. Eat. This. Sh*t." Jeanne removed the ring from her hand and throw it on Allie's face. She turned her back and started to walk away. Alex stop her short at the door.

"Jeanne, Let's talk! Let's fix this! I'm sorry!" His voice is imposing yet apologetic at the same time.

"I'm tired of your lies Alex. A trash only belongs to trash. Goodbye Alex." She looks so firm and strong but the moment she walked past him, tears started to uncontrollably fall down from her eyes.

She can feel her heart being ripped apart...

The Big Step Forward

9:30PM

Herchel Towers

Jeanne woke up from the loud ringing of the alarm. Her head throbs with every ringing from it. She groaned as she slowly moved the blanked from her head and looked at her surroundings. She gasped and suddenly get up on the bed. Sudden pain struck her head which she instinctively reached out her temples. This is definitely not her room but she cannot identify where she is right now.

"You're up!" She heard the familiar feminine voice said. She looked around and saw a woman from the doorway holding a plate of french toast and omelette. Her uncombed long chestnut brown hair is running freely to her shoulders. She can smell strawberry shampoo from the woman.

"You're favorites!" The woman smiled as she laid down the plates beside her. She frowned as she can feel the pulsating pain from her head. The woman looked at Jeanne with full of concern. "You should eat up and drink some medicine for that head ache of yours." she added as she handed Jeanne some pain pills.

"Victoria.." Jeanne finally uttered to her friend. "How the heck did I get here?" She said while rubbing her temples hoping to ease the pain. The woman called Victoria sat on the chair across her bed already munching some of the bread she brought of with her. She was frowning yet smiling at Jeanne. "I don't know. You tell me. You just came here in the wee hours of the morning drunk. Eyes and fist swollen. You didn't even say a single word to me but you just went to MY bathroom to throw up, used MY toothbrush WITHOUT MY permission and went to MY bed like it is yours. So you tell me what happened last night." her friend told her.

Memories from last night suddenly flooded to her mind. Alex cheating on her. Allie betraying and stealing her man. Some of their friends consenting such act under her nose. It was just too much for her, she started crying again. Victoria who still doesn't have any idea with what happened last night got even more confuse but rush to her side anyway to console her. "Hush, everything's ok now. Tell me what happened big sis" Victoria said while hugging her.

"Alex and I- are done" Jeanne managed to say in between her sobs. "Say what?! Why???" Victoria though already expecting it because Alex is such a douche was still surprise to hear the news from her friends. "Someone texted me about Alex cheating and even asked me to go to the Le Rave Bar to see it for myself" Jeanne continued while trying to sound strong, Victoria just nod patiently waiting for her friend to finish. "The person never told me who he was, anyway I went there despite the fact that it could be just a sick joke to prank me but somehow my instincts tells me that Alex is really an assh*le."

"So what did you see at the bar?" Victoria asked Jeanne though she already has an idea that her friend saw Alex cheating with another girl. "Alex is with another girl- Allie." Jeanne answered as she cries again. The pain and hatred from her heart is just overflowing.

"That cunning b*tch! And she was supposed to be your childhood friend!!!!" Victoria is flaring up on anger now as well

"Let it go Tori. I feel pain but I also feel relieved that Alex and I already broke off the engagement. I have always been exhausted with his issues these past 4 years." Jeanne said while calling her friend with her nickname.

"That cunning snake!!! You had always been with her and even helped out her family when they've got troubles." Victoria gritted her teeth as she looked at her friend who seems to be lost on her thoughts again. She calmed down and asked her friend once more about the instead last night. "So what did you do? I hope you did something to the both of them that they will never forget."

"I punched Allie on the face using my left fist. The diamond on the ring left a wound on her cheek. I hope it will also leave a scar to remind her not to mess with someone else's man ever. As for Alex..." Jeanne trailed of as she sigh. " I did not do anything. I just told him trash belongs to trash anyway then I walked away".

Victoria smirked and seems to be satisfied with her friends story. "As I have expected from you. Ruthless yet with class. Don't ever think about that stupid man or that snakey friends of yours ever again. You are free again and beautiful. I'm sure lot's of men will woo you again in no time." She encouragingly told her friend.

"I am no longer interested with relationships Tori. For me, only fools still believes in love. Right now, I have other plans" Jeanne said with conviction. Victoria didn't bother to argue with her friend's point of view right now. Jeanne's been through alot. She cannot blame her for being like that.

"So what's the plan?" She asked Jeanne. She will support her friend all the way down at this point of her life.

" I'm planning to move to a different country to shake off these negativities out my life and clear my head." Jeanne plainly said.

"Are your serious???!!! You're leaving??? Does your mom would even allow you??? You know how clingy and protective she is to you?!!!" Victoria was so surprised with her friend's decision.

" She doesn't have any choice. It's my life anyway." Jeanne firmly answered.

"But how about me??" (T__T) Victoria said with a bit sadness on her tone.

"You can tag along with me if you want" Jeanne is already half smiling now. The first time she smiled.

"Hmph! I've still got alot of things to sort out here." Victoria pouted.

"Aww poor little baby you."

"Shut up Jeanne!!! You still haven't paid me with the damages you on my place last night!"

The two girls suddenly burst out laughing. Victoria kindly feel relieved to see her friend laughing despite the things that's going on with her life right now.

"So when are you planning to leave again?" Victoria asked.

"As soon as possible" Jeanne said "but right now, there is somewhere else that I should be." She added.

"Where?"

"To the salon Tori."

"and why is it?"

"I want to get rid of this long unruly hair of mine." Jeanne answered.

Moving Places

12:25am

Charles Beavauis Airport

Jeanne is already in the airport together with Victoria and Anderson, her long time friend and as well as Victoria's boy friend. She still has an hour and half before her boarding time. Victoria still never gave up trying to change her mind not to move to a different country but she had already decided.

"Jeanne, must you really go? Lyrem is already married and moved to Turkey together with her husband. Xysa is somewhere on the globe enjoying her singleness forever, only the two of us are left together." said Victoria in a childish way while making a puppy eyes look hoping to change her mind.

Jeanne sighed and shakes her head while brushing up her now short black pixie cut hair. She heard Anderson snickered at her side. "I will not be surprise if one day Tori and I will hear a news that you already got a new girlfriend instead of a boyfriend" Anderson looked at her trying to suppress his laughter. She felt a bit annoyed looking at her friend's expression. "Shut up Anderson!!! Or I might gonna shave you lovely blonde hair bald so that Tori will break up with you!" She annoyingly responded to her friend. "How unfair it is that Jeanne looks more handsome to me, now that she cut her hair short. Alas she might as well change her gender then." Anderson continued teasing her. "You! Really want to see death before I leave?!" Jeanne is now threatening Anderson to hit him with her luggage. "You don't want to be teased like a man but look at what you are wearing! Men's long sleeves, sneakers and jeans!" her friend continued on. "It's none of your business how I dress myself you maggot!!! I always wear these kind of stuff! Why make a big fuss on it now!" Jeanne refuted. "You used to still managed to look pretty before but you're a man now. Shall I call you brother?" her friend shot back. Victoria just looked at the both of them feeling embarrassed as some other people are starting to look at them. "God, I don't know these two people." Victoria thought. They were only just cut short when they hear the announcement that all passengers bound to Canada is already at their last call for check in.

"So guys..." Jeanne said while intently looking at her two old friends. "I'll be gone for awhile but if you guys needs something you know how to find me." She smirked. She feels sad leaving her two friends behind but she needs this. "Jeanne, your family though, aren't they going to see you before you go?" Anderson asked. "Ah, you know the stand of my parents with my decision but my brothers are all good with this but I'd rather not see them right now." She shortly explained as she smirked at them trying to give them an assurance that everything's good on her family's point of view. "Jeanne..." Victoria is now a bit teary eyed. She didn't utter a single word but just hugged Jeanne tightly. "I know Tori. I know. I'll be back."

She parted ways with her friends with a heavy heart. She doesn't want to leave but she has to, otherwise she might not be able to endure the pain of betrayal that Alex and Allie had caused her. Leaving her friends behind is far more heartbreaking than breaking off the engagement with Alex.

Plane

02:05am

Jeanne already boarded the plane and was just trying to find the seat number that she reserved for her flight. She was also trying to find a vacant overhead compartment where she can put her bag. Finally she spotted her reserved seat number and lucky enough there is an empty overhead compartment just above her seat. She went to her seat and swung her bag up high to put her things on the compartment, however, she didn't put enough force on her arms that her two hand carry bags was about to topple down straight to her face. She just closed her eyes and just accepted her fate that she's going to have a nasty bump on her face but to her surprise her bags never fall down on her. When she looked she saw another hand holding her bags, keeping it from falling on her. She glanced to her right and there she saw the owner of the hand. A handsome man about her age with dark brown hair and icy greenish blue eyes. He looks at her with a very amused expression on his face but that is not what caught her attention. It was the man's clothes. They are wearing the same thing. The only thing that's different are the colors. Her's a black sleeves while his is white but the cut is obviously the same. Before she could say her thanks and move as far as away from this man, the man had already put her bags in the compartment and is now intently looking at her.

"If you will continue staring at me and block the way, the passengers behind will surely kill us" He said to her so nonchantly and with a happy tone. Truly, she took a glimpse behind the man and she could see the annoyed faces of the other passengers. She uttered a loud sorry out of panic and hurriedly sit on her designated seat. The man who just helped her awhile also sat beside her, she looked at him and couldn't hide the frown from her face. The man disregarded her expression as he settles himself beside her. "You should eat more." The man beside her suddenly speaks. "Huh?" she responded, wondering if it is her that the man is talking with. "I said you should eat more. I never met a man so skinny and weak as you except the ones who are sick" the man answered. She felt a slight annoyance with his presence now. The words man, skinny and weak are like sharp knives piercing her character as a woman. "None of your business!" she annoyingly responded. The man beside her seems to be surprised when he heard her talk. His eyes looks at her face as if she is a frog being scrutinized under the microscope and then his eyes drifted to her chest. "Hey! I'll poke your eyes in if you don't stop staring!" She said while making a threat using her fingers. The man laughed nervously and apologized to her. "I'm sorry. It is my bad. I didn't noticed that you are a woman after all because you're hair is so short and you are wearing men's clothes just like mine. Pardon my rudeness." He smiled at her and she felt warm on her face that she drifted view to the window to hide it. "Apology accepted." She plain answered.

Once every passengers are settled, the flight attendants started showing the safety precautions that every passengers should follow and what are the do's and don'ts. After that, the plane that Jeanne is currently in started to take off leaving the broken memories behind.

=======================

04:15am

Jeanne didn't noticed that she fell asleep, she was awoken because of the sore that she is feeling on her neck. Apparently. it seems like that her neck was just so bent to while her left while she is sleeping that her neck muscles feels so stiff right now. She also felt that her throat is dry. She is extremely thirsty. She cleared her throat twice or thrice when suddenly somebody handed her a bottle of water. It was the man seating beside her. "You're still here." was the first thing that came out of her mouth instead of saying thank you. "Where else do you think I should go inside this plane?" answered the man while giving her an are-you-for-real-look. She felt so embarrassed that she could feel her face turned red. "I'm so sorry! That wasn't what I was supposed to say. I just woke up and my brain cells aren't fully functional yet." The man just chuckled opened the bottled water and put it on her hand. "Don't worry. I know. You should drink that water first. I can feel that your throat's dried up by the sound of your voice, you might get a sore throat or cough if you didn't do something about it." He smiled at her. She noded and followed him. "What am I thinking? I should keep distance with everyone." she thought. Once she is done drinking, she saw the man handing her food. She looked at him a bit confused. "French toast." The smile never left his face. "I'm sorry if I took the liberty of getting food for you without asking. We still have atleast 5 hours more left on this flight, you should eat something." Again, she just nodded and followed him again. French toast are one of her favorite food. "There might be nothing wrong getting nice attention with strangers as long as he will not go out of bounds. I know how to take good care of myself when needed." she thought. The man let her eat in silence, giving her glances from time to time. Once, she is done, he asked a stewardess to take away the plate and other clutter. She just utter a simple thanks and just stated at the window. There's nothing but darkness. It is still dark anyway. She let out a sigh of relief and closed her eyes. She is just going to sleep the remaining hours of this flight away.

======================

9:00am

Pearson Airport

Jeanne woke up with the slight pat on her face. It was the man beside her. The passengers are starting to alight the plane. She noticed that she was lying on his shoulders. She suddenly retreated herself back on the other corner and talked to him in hushed tone so as to not call any attention from the other passengers. "I'm sorry. i fell asleep" she said. "It's ok I didn't wake you up because you look so tired." he simply answered. "Thank you" she whispered and he just nodded back at her with a smile. He stand up and started getting her bag first from the compartment before he gets his'. She smiled at him and nod a thanks. They walked together towards the exit when suddenly a question popped out from her mind. "It is required for us to buckle an unbucked our seat belts before landing or if there is turbulence. Who...." she trailed off when the man spoke and says "I did but don't worry I just buckled and unbuckled your seat belt." and then he chuckled. "Ah right." she replied while looking down. She feels a bit embarrassed.

They waited for a while to collect their check in baggage and after that they both walked towards the exit of the airport. They were walking together when suddenly the man was greeted with group of people who are obviously so happy to see him back. She looked at them for a few minutes before started walking away to the opposite direction to where the car that her brother had set up for her to pick her up. As she get on the car, she felt a bit sad for not even knowing his name but she just dismissed it as being on her most vulnerable moments as she had just broken up with Alex and she should not feel that way. "We are strangers and it is better for us to stay as strangers before he ruins it" she thought. "Ready for the long drive towards Halifax miss?" The driver asked. "I love long drives sir" she answered and with that they sped off.
