It was another boring day at school, I sat at my desk drawing probably one of the best art pieces I’ve ever done, I wanted to call it the dragon girl but that was already a famous art piece so I called it the girl of the dragon, it had a girl with long blue and white hair flowing down her back and spirals out of control with the wind that comes from an invisible vent beneath her, she had nice icy blue eye and an eyepatch to cover the other one, she wore a nice black and yellow cropped jumper with grey jeans that had been shredded in crazy places, she wore black sneaker boots and a crazy white headpiece, the dragon was a crazy red just to contrast how she looks

“Whatcha doin?” I looked up

“Oh it’s just you” I rolled my eyes “I’m drawing” Kiki stole the drawing from my desk and awed over it.

“Okay class everyone take your seats” everyone rushed to their seats and those who were talking quickly silenced

“Okay everyone roll call”. We continued our work as Mr. Smith walked down the rows of desks and students but with a small movement of a pen the classroom started shaking and all the desks fell over and pens with paper scattered

“What’s happening!?” Selene’s scream echoed through the halls, we all rode from our jerking chairs but fell to the floor, most of us managed to stay unscratched but I and some of the others had minor bruising and scratches, three quick rumbles and it stopped we all moaned in pain

“Is everyone alright!?” Everyone gave some way to say yes, but that wasn’t for long as the whole school collapsed down. We all woke with a cough and a groan, I opened my eyes only to screw them shut again because of the amount of dust and tiny rubble parts floating through the air, I got onto my hands and knees and crawled until I bumped into someone else

“Sorry”

“Is that you Lizzy?”

“Uh yeah is that you Benny?” A hand wrapped around my shoulder

“Yes the one and only Benny” I laughed but stopped and had to cough, I opened my eyes

“You should be able to open your eyes no” he opened one and then the other. I looked around in the darkness

“We have to find others” Benny looked around and got up, brushing off his school uniform he reached a hand down to me, I grabbed his hand and got up

“Well looks like it’s time for an adventure in the dark”.

We spent ages walking through the building calling for names and jumping at the slightest of noises, it was strange, it looked like our school...but it didn’t, it was broken down and dark, very dark.

The smell of damp wood was almost vomit inducing, it wasn’t easy walking through the broken place, avoiding holes and fallen wires that surprisingly were still alive. We were to turn a corner but Benny shot his arm out and the look of horror pulled at his face, I peered around him to see a child, no, a thing hover above one of our classmates

“W...what is it doing to her?” I whispered, Benny looked away as I watched the thing devour our classmate as she shrieked and convulsed, her shrieks must have echoed throughout her whole building because soon an entire swarm of these things surrounded her and fought over her.

It must’ve been a few hours before those things had completely cleared out leaving nothing but her bones behind, Benny grabbed my arm as he pressed a finger to his lips and guided me past the body, I covered my mouth as I felt the sick creeping up into my mouth, the body smelled of multiple dead animals, we crept through the building looking out for whatever these things were. Just as we thought we were safe a damp spot in the roof collapsed and called attention to more of them and they attacked the dead wood as I pulled Benny away. We clung to eachother as they groaned and screamed at the disappointment of no food.

“This wasn’t going to be easy” I looked to Benny then the thin wood that crossed over a dark and bottomless hole. He gave me an encouraging smile as he took my hand and helped me across, the occasional creak of the wood sent panick all throughout my body, it was a nightmare.

As we crossed a hall we heard the tapping of feet, I peered into the room and saw some girls trying to escape from the grasp of these monsters, their faces of worry kicked me into thinking mode and I looked around for something I could use. I found a piece of fallen wood and picked it up and without thinking threw it near the second door, the creature stopped chasing the girls and ran to the door, the girls stopped and looked towards us. Benny beckoned them over towards us while keeping his hand over his mouth as did the girls.

We stood in the hallway with our backs to the wall as the beast searched for its prey, keeping our breathing steady and quiet, this couldn’t be happening, it was a crazy dream right? I thought of all the times I had crazy dreams like this but the girls occasional sniffles brought me back to reality. I knew them, I believe their names were Bethany and Eliza, they held on to eachother with such desperation that it made me feel touch starved. Why us?

The difference between Benny, I and the girls is, well, Benny and I only had eachother, they had everyone in the grade, it was crazy, I wasn’t sure wether I wanted to cling to them, or keep away from them. Either way I did both.

We had been walking and stopping for so long that we were tired and drained

“Why don’t we take shifts so some of us can rest?”, I quickly added on “I’ll take the first shift” Benny nodded

“I’ll take second then” the girls shakily agreed with us and sat in the room we had chosen to stay in. A room that seemed safe, that was quiet, creepily quiet, but the creepier the better, it meant that I was grounded to reality, so I didn’t slip away into my mind.

I didn’t know how safe it was for me to fall asleep but I managed to because Benny woke me up by gently shaking me, I opened my eyes and slowly got up, my back aching and my muscles groaning, I grabbed onto Benny’s arm as my eyes adjusted to the dark again, he guided me out to the others as we started moving down the hallway.

“Oi, psst” we looked around for the voice

“Uh hello?” I called back quietly

“Hey over here” we turned to see our teacher. Mr smith” we walked over to him and he pointed further down the hall

“There’s these things” we nodded and placed a finger to our lips and he nodded, and we guided him along with us. He pointed to the next hallway and we turned the corner, one of those things jumped out at us and ran like crazy, screaming as it was on fire, we pushed ourselves into a tight corner as other things attacked it and set themselves on fire.

It looked like a nightmare, we were surrounded by them in the room as they attacked the noises. I desperately looked around for an escape but on found a little pebble, it wouldn’t be loud enough to get their attention, neither was the other pebble even if thrown together, I looked around the roof and found an alarm system, I lined it up and threw the pebble...I missed, it made a small plop noise and some of the things went to check it out while the others continued ripping eachother apart. It was horrible, they looked like us humans but also didn’t.

I lined up my second shot and drew in a shaky breath, I closed my eyes and threw it as hard as I could and it hit it! It sent off alarms and water. They hated it, they screeched as their skin blistered and bubbles. Water. Water was their weakness, they couldn’t stand it, they all scattered and we rocketed out of there and booked it down the hallway, we got halfway down and heard screaming, we cautiously turned that way and I covered my mouth as I gagged.
