Chapter 1: My friend

There is a girl who isn’t pretty, but she in love with a guy who is an outstanding and hard-working guy of her classroom. She didn’t know when she in love with him. They both always get along, fussed, fight, and fooling around making everyone laugh. Not only Rothana and Lina who get along together, but there is a girl who is best friend of Lina, Sary. Those three always make everybody in classroom happy. One day Lina make herself brave and want to tell Rothana about her feeling for him, but the conversation between them become far from what she want. Before she can let it out, Rothana told her that he had a crush on girl in their classroom. Lina is the strong outside, but the weak inside. To be truth, Lina was born with a terrible disease, it was the heart disease. Her heart broken is just awake of her illness. Sometimes her heart’s beating fast, and sometimes it’s beating slow. Lina cannot go to school by herself anymore. Her parents hire a diver for her. Once a week she goes to visit the doctor. A lot of time that the doctor asked Lina why she always sad, but she didn’t answer him. Sary always goes to see the doctor with Lina most of time. She knew Lina’s condition very clear. As the time by until the day come, Lina told her friend that she goes to the restroom, but on the way goes there she got weaker and weaker. She ended up by losing her conscious in the restroom. Sary have waited for a long, so she decided to go after her. She screams when she saw Lina lied down on the floor in the restroom. Everyone come to the restroom, the officer called to her parents, and Sary went to the hospital along with Lina. Sary never leaves Lina alone, she always goes by and visits Lina at the hospital when she got free time until Lina come back from hospital.

Sary is the best friend ever of Lina, and she is the sense of reason which makes Lina want to live on. From time to time, she saw Rothana, she never talk to him, and getting sad, but when she turns to look at her best friend, Sary, she got her smile back once again. While the hard time her friend never leave her, but that guy didn’t even know what she had met. However, her sadness is gone, even so her illness never gone, but it’s not attack her very often. Just after she broken heart, she her parents to change the school, but now she changed her mind. She said she want to study there more with her best friend. Sary knew that her in love with Rothana. In order to make what Lina’ve wanted, she arranged to have a private conversation with Rothana. She told to meet each other on the top roof.

“Hey! Rothana”

“What?”

“I have something to talk with you”

“Where is it?”

“See you on top roof afterschool!”

When they arrived at the top roof and have the conversation.

“How are you, Rothana?”

“Yes I’m fine, and you?”

“Yes me too. I have something to ask you.”

“What is it?”

“I want you to go out with Lina.”

“What?”

“No what! You have to.”

“Why would I do that?”

“You don’t, so I should post this picture to our school for sure.”

She takes off her and show the picture of Rothana who was cheating in classroom.

“What is that about?”

“No! Nothing if you do what I said, I won’t post this.”

“Okay I do it, but promise me you must delete it after I ask her”

“You have my word.”

He got his words and asked Lina to be girlfriend. But everything is difference what Sary have thought.

“Lina! Can I ask you something?”

“What you want?”

“Please be my girlfriend?”

“What?”

“Can you?”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t. I’m really sorry,”

She said sorry so many times and she ran away. Lina clearly knows who did this for her. She ran to her best friend who sat in the garden behind of the school, she saw her.

“Why you did this?”

“Huh”

“About Rothana I mean.”

“I’m sorry. I want you to be happy with him.”

“How can I happy when he didn’t even love me?”

“I thought you would enjoy being with him.”

“Oh my dear Sary, the one I need the most is not him, but it is you. You are my best friend, my sister. He will leave my side one day, but you won’t. You love me for I am and you’re very care about me very much. I love you my sister, Sary.”

“Lina!”

Either girl are standing, hugging, and crying at garden while everyone is studying.

At the summer break, both girls ask their parents to visit Seim Reap. They go on trip with their parents and visit a lot of temples there at day time. And go to visit night market and Pub street at night time. Happy, Happy, laughing, laughing, come here, come here, visit there, visit there, what is that? It is tasty. They walk and talk to each other. While they are happy together, unfortunately, Lina got her illness attacked her. She holds it back, until she get back to their hotel. She is very weak and end up by faint in front of her room. Sary saw that she screams very loud which make their parents heard it. They rush to their room and quick take Lina to her the hospital. She had been sending to the emergency room for two hours. After they saved her, the doctor comes out the emergency room and talk to Lina’s father.

“Sir, how is my daughter?”

“She saved now, but heart is very weak and we have taken care of her emotional specially.”

“How could her life become like?” He said with terror.

“Is there any way sir?”

“Yes, but it is really difficult.”

“Whatever it is I can do for my daughter?”

“Her heart got a hole, so she needs a new one. But she can’t have baby if she use the unreal heart. “

“So take my heart “

“No you can’t, we can receive from charity family of the death.”

“Oh my poor little girl”

He comes back without taking to anyone, but he stays in silent with sadness. Sary got so doubt, so she decided to ask the doctor by herself. The answer is not difference from Lina’s father. She asks him many times, but the answer is the same. She goes to the restroom and has a big cry at there. She made up herself and went to Lina’s room. She always made Lina smile, until the vocation come. Lina’s parents decided to send Lina to Singapore to cure her illness.

While they‘re at hospital, Sary always stays with Lina every night. Two months have passed, but the doctor suggests Lina to stay there a little longer and check health up. Sary needs to return because she needs study, but she really doesn’t want to go alone. Even so she has no choice. It is very difficult to stay through the hard time alone. When arrived at the international airport of Phnom Penh, she was really sad of it. At last, Sary decided to skip per year of studying. She told her parents from time to time, but they rejected her request. Then she never goes to school and locked herself in the room. The love of parents cannot see their child like that, so they accept her request and send her to Singapore.

Sary’s very happy when she knew she was sending to Singapore with her best friend. She took off and brings herself to apartment of Lina’s parents. Then she rushed to the hospital which Lina stay in. She was happy, but her happiness is not long Lina’s father told her

“Sary, our last hope is gone.”

“What do you mean uncle?”

“The result is out, she is not got heart disease, but she also got brain cancer too. What should I do now? I don’t even dare to tell her mom but you. She is really weak. If she heard that, she will lose all of her strength.”

“I’m really sorry, but where is she?”

“She is meeting the doctor now.”

“I’ll go after her.”

She ran to where Lina is, but she still outside and heard the doctor talk to Lina.

“How is my condition, sir?”

“Nothing change, but do you want me to tell you all?”

“It’s okay if my condition is worse. I know myself clearly. How much time do I have?”

“Miss. I know you got into the hard time most of the time, but you can go through it. This time is very worse than before and I can’t find the way out.”

“So can I go home?”

“I’m really sorry for you.”

“Tomorrow I’ll prepare the document of my leave. Thank you so sir for your kindness, but I really want to go home now. I want to meet everyone one last time.”

After she said she rolls her chair out of doctor’s room. Then she saw Sary who stands still and cries in front of the room.

“What are you doing here? Aren’t you studying by now?”

“Why Lina? Why are you hiding this from your sister?

“I’m sorry, but I thought you were studying in our country. “

“You said you return tomorrow, why don’t stay here a little longer. They may find the way out for you.”

“No, Sary I’m at my limit. I want to see everyone for the last time of my life.”

“Lina...”

“Thank but it is okay.”

Sary’s just went there, and she returns the next day after she arrived. While they were on the airplane Sary have a big talk with Lina.

“Lina”

“Yes! What is it?” Lina answered in the weak tune.

“What do you want to do mostly?”

“I guess I want to go the beach with you.” the sad smile of Lina appear.

“Okay! We’ll go together.” Sary tried to hold herself together.

Fake smile always appeared on Sary face to make Lina happy. But Lina know herself more than anyone else, she knew she doesn’t have much time left with Sary.

At the beach, Lina lay down on the bed near the sea and talk to Sary.

“Sary can I ask you a favor?”

“What is it my dear?”

“It is about time to say goodbye to everyone.”

“What are you saying Lina? You are not going anywhere without me.” She’s trembling.

“I don’t have much time.”

“Ahhh.. Lina!”

“Can you stay with me until my time?”

“What are you talking about? I will always with you.”\

“Thank you Sary” Lina smiled.

“You don’t have to thank to your sister. What are you going to do next?”

“I want to go to school and see everyone there…..”

“No problem I’ll bring you there tomorrow.”

The both of parents had heard everything of the two girl conversation which makes Lina’s mother cries heavily on her husband shoulders.

When they arrived Sary gave Lina a hug and they get out the car. Sary pulls Lina’s wheelchair to her classroom. Her classmate could know that the illness girl was their friend, Lina. Her body was so thin and her face looks like the corpse. All girl get in cry after they realize who she was. Rothana really regrets of what he had done to Lina.

“Sary, Lina, I’m sorry…..” Rothana tremble.

“You don’t have to sorry. It’s not your fault.” Lina said

“Where we are going next, Lina?” Sary asked Lina

“Let’s go! I’m tired now.”

Sary pulls Lina back in to their car and tell the driver to go home. But before they head there Lina has a request to Sary.

“I want to watch cartoon. Can we stop by and buy some DVD?”

“Of course we can! Driver stops by the DVD shop. And which one you like Lina”

“Tom and Jerry is the best.”

When they arrived “Stay here, I’ll be back.”

Sary choose a lot of DVD of Tom & Jerry. While she check her bill, the sudden call which ring from her pocket.

Ring ring….

“Hello!”

“Hello Miss! It’s me, now Miss. Lina is faint again.”

“Ha….. I’ll go now wait for me.”

They got on the car and drove to the hospital as soon as possible. After she took the injection Lina wake up.

“Hospital again! I always end up here.”

“You faint in the car and we drove you here. You should push yourself too hard. I heard doctor said you are too tired.”

“Okay! Okay sister!”

So they go back home and Sary stay with Lina again. While sitting at the garden Lina asked Sary.

“Do you have boyfriend, Sary?”

“No, I don’t.”

“Why? You better get one.”

“I don’t want because he will separate you and me apart.”

“ Oh honey! I can’t stay with you forever.”

“But you are with me now.”

“But I’d also gone soon and forever.”

“Don’t talk like that. You will stay with me in long.”

“I want to watch K-pop Countdown.”

“Okay”

Sary asked Lina “ Lina! who you have a crush on among those Korean’s star.”

“I like Kim Hyun Joong”

“Really, but I like Lee Min Ho, he is the hot one.”

“I’m glad.” Then she fell asleep again while they were watching television.

After two week of visiting her classroom, Lina passed away. Sary cries and cries non-stop.

“My sister! My sister! Why? Why? Come back to me! Why you leave me like this?” Sary cried heavily.

“Daughter let her be in peace.” Her dad said

“But why?”

All of her classmate went to Lina’s funeral included Rothana.

“I’m really sorry for your lost aunt, uncle , Sary.”

“Now you are happy, when you saw her like this, right?” She was speaking and crying at one.

Lina last request is put her last ashes into the river near their house. In order to complete Lina’s last wish, she take her last ashes to the river.

It is really difficult for Sary to forget her best friend and sister. She stay home for five month until she can go to school. She take all pictures and videos they took together. She watched it one by one cried along. Her parents always cheer her up with buying new CD and DVD she likes, but it’s no use.
