I thought all these things to myself after walking into my apartment in a lazy manner .

please let me sleep. I throw myself on my creaky student bed and take out my phone from my pocket.

“ Oh oh, if it’s not the most popular drunk gambler in town . To what do I owe the pleasure?”

This old guy that I’m speaking to casually is actually my adoptive father, ever since he lost his pregnant wife to an accident, he had totally lost all form of sanity. And soon after that he began to drink, spending all his life savings on gambling never caring about the little girl that was suffering in his house . Soon enough I got the hang of his stupid character and began to beg in the streets to survive, yet any money I make from begging, he takes it to gamble.

“ Oh sweet daughter, I know you care a lot for me right and I know you must have saved a lot. Why don’t you give it to this old man and I’ll-“

“ Ahjussi... do you think I’m eight years old? Let me tell you something, I’m so broke right now that I’m not seeing straight. I’m not that dumb Soo-yeon again, so let this be the last time you’ll call me for something like this , now get the f**k out.” Line disconnects and I stare at the screen of my phone with a heavy sigh.

This isn’t a sign of sadness, it’s a sign and sigh of poverty and right now I’m soaked in poverty.

If only I could see a rich knight in shining armor that would just sweep me of the floor of poverty and place me on a white horse of wealth.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

The only way for a poor person to smile is to see money, touch money and most times make unimaginable delusions. And that is how I’ve been living .

Except for the entire idea about money.

“ DEAR SOO YEON KANG, YOUR LOAN OF 30,000 WON WILL BE DUE BY MONDAY , PLEASE PAY UP BY TOMORROW.”

“****Aishh, just why?! Why is my suffering this extreme?! Who have I offended to suffer this much? Just why?” I say as I cry into the pillow until I felt the wave of sleep wash over me.

I guess there’s no food this night again.

TUESDAY, THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

Successfully I had borrowed another loan to pay my due debt yesterday and now I’m off to my morning job which starts from 9 am- 12pm and what is this job all about? It’s about me walking a retired woman’s dog and I’m really enjoying it. The after job is just me working in a convenience shop where I eat free food and the night job is me working as a bartender in a club . I go to the bus stop and wait for the bus to arrive while seating on the bench.

“ You’ve got this Soo yeon, there’s still hope for you!” I say to myself even though it’s useless because I really have no hope.

RING. RING. RING. Who could be calling me?

I check my phone screen and see the caller ID which happens to be the number of my best friend.

“ Hae-in , I was certainly not expecting your call.”

The bus comes just in time and I board it just after an old man had entered. I paid for the fare and go sit beside a window.

“ Kang soo yeon! I’ve missed you so much. But that can be solved because I’m now bavk in the country! Where are you? Let’s hang out if you’re less busy.” Hae-in speaks happily.

Joo Hae In, daughter of the Joo family and this family happens to be one of the most influential and wealthy family in Seoul . As far as I know theyare ranked third in the hierarchy of wealthy families and there are only five families.

Cha family, Kim family, Joo family , Jung family and the most feared,influential and wealthy family is the Seo family.

They basically rule the entire Korea .

“ Soo yeon?”

“ Ah sorry I was carried away. Sure let’s hang out when I’m free , what do you say tomorrow evening?” I suggest and she agreed and our call ended.

How I became friends with her is still unknown to me but I glad.

To not embarrass her, I have to get rich and I must no matter what.

“ Thank you so much Soo yeon, you’ve always helped me beyond walking my dog, here have these side dishes, I made them for you.” Ms. Cho Gyuri, an unmarried woman in her mid sixties says to me as she pushes a wrapped flask into my hands with s smile.

At some point I grew on her and would stay with her if I was less busy because we were both lonely and I cherished her like my own family even though I can give her nothing.

“ Ajumma this is too much after all, I didn’t do much.” I say trying to push the food back.

“ Oh my poor So-yeon, I would really get angry if you reject this food. Look at you, your face is pale and your skin is dry, look you have eye bags . My poor So-yeon isn’t feeding well and isn’t taking care of herself, the least this granny can do is to take care of you right?” She replies with a smile while touching my cheek.

So she has been watching me .

“ Then I’ll have no choice but to take this food home Grandma.” I say and hug the flask yo my chest.

“ Yes, yes, yes you do that. Make sure you eat it and make sure you come tomorrow morning I have something important to tell you.” She says patting my arm.

“ Sure grandma, I’ll come very early tomorrow so that I can get your important message. If that’s all then I’ll take my leave then.” I begin to walk out of her compound.

“ Sure good child” We both wave at each other until I had finally left her house.

**“ Gosh, it’s good to be good to these old folks, who knew she’d be my top benefactor. But still I have to make money and repay all her kindness. “ **I say to myself and begin to walk to my house which was a few stops away.

“ Okay and that would be 500 won, please scan the QR code to make payments.” Now this is me already at my second part time job.and it will soon be time for me to close up.

The customer thanked me and left even giving me a tip and of course I thanked her. The jingling of the bell made me know that someone had entered and I looked up and found a very tall guy dressed in all black.

What sort of dress code is that? It’s not like we’re in some action movie or sort.

Soon enough the eerie looking man came up the counter and dropped a lot of beers and snacks on the table.

Sure enough he’s s guy it’s what he can handle. Seeing this amount of beer reminds me of a certain somebody.

“ Bloody bastard.” I muttered to myself without thinking because thinking about that bastard made me irritated.

“ I’m sorry but were you talking to me?” The guy asks.

Oops. I’ve really offended someone now, what to do??

It’s one thing to be rich and also miss the things ordinary people do and it’s another thing to actually take a vacation. This type of vacation isn’t like the rich people vacation which are traveling and doing rich people shit.

But for me, that is not how a vacation ought to be because you end up being the center of attention once you do things like that. That is why I always blend into the life of a commoner so that I can enjoy a peaceful and entertaining life.

There are a lot of things I enjoy about the commoners lifestyle. People like them don’t worry about calories, they don’t have to worry about the paparazzi following their movements, they don’t get to hear devastating news about the fall of a company’s stock market.

Even though I was adopted at an early age there are still some things that I enjoyed when I was a kid. I think I could continue those habits after my adoption, but things only got worse. That’s why I strived to build myself, build my company, make my money and gain my freedom.

It was only when I built my company, with my own money that I actually had a say in that household. The only supportive person I have in that household is my adoptive mother and sister which kept me going. But all this information is not needed right?

Presently , I decided to come down from my throne and take a stroll in this bustling neighborhood, which was where I lived as a kid . A lot of things didn’t change except that there was a newly built grocery store right across the street, not that I remember much about that place, it just looks out of place.

I crossed the street and entered the shop, seeing that the girl behind the counter was busy with a customer, I went ahead and took the things that I wanted. Not that it was needed, I just need to get close to her to get information concerning this place.

I went straight to the refrigerator and took a few can of beer and dropped them in the basket and then I took a snack and another beverage.

That should do right ?

Now let’s go get acquainted with a certain lady. I got to the counter and place all that I had picked on the table. The lady eyes me trying to figure out my face since I wore a hoodie, and through the extremely lowered hood I stared at her fiercely. When she looks at what I had picked, she cursed loudly .

I can handle her eyeing me but she cursing st me is what I fucking won’t take.

“ Excuse me, are you talking to me?” My voice came out a little bit rough —not that it was exactly intentional— making her freeze with what she was doing. Slowly she looks up at me and I freeze.

Okay for sure this girl is fucking beautiful. She had a round eyes that seem bigger as she stared at me, white skin that surely would feel soft as fuck and those lips, they look so plump, soft and kissable especially with the way it was cherry color.

My entire body goes rigid at the thought of something wild and feral crept into my mind. Shaking my head mentally, I dragged myself out of the sudden hypnotic feeling I was starting to feel. In order to not divulge further I pick what I bought, which is already in a white polythene bag.

I pay up the price she called through the QR code and lift the bag but the girl grabs my wrist tightly. I stare at the slender fingers around my hand and trail them up to her face and see her holding a remorse face.

Don’t lose your cool Woo Jin, it’s just a woman. You can have any woman you want. Just don’t lose your shit, keep yourself together Seo Woo Jin!

I say to myself as those nasty thoughts try to pry their way in again. No way. No fucking chance.

“ Something wrong miss...” I trail off and stare directly at her tag. Kang Soo Yeon. Huh.

” ...Kang?”

Immediately the words came out she let’s go of my hand and apologizes.

“ Sir, I’m really sorry about earlier. I wasn’t cussing at you intentionally. I was just reminded of someone, I hope you can let it go.” She rambles all at once and bows her head.

“ Surely the person must be very handsome for me to remind you of the person.” I smile smugly and she rolls her eyes and mumbles something inaudible.

“ Anyways thank you for patronizing our store , I hope you can drop by again, good night dear sir.” She gives a forced smile.

Although this may sound as if she’s really thanking me this is just her way of telling me to get the fuck out. That does hurt my feelings though, if only she knew who I was , she’d practically be on her knees.

“ Sure... it was nice meeting you though, Ms Soo Yeon Kang.” I return her smile though and leave, walking down to my car.

Her apology, appreciation and smile were fake for her beauty.

But that doesn’t matter does it? We’re practically strangers and she my friend is very weird stranger.
