On a hazy evening, Yan Cheng Mental Hospital was gloomy and eerie, as if it were a forgotten corner of the world.

In a small, cramped room at the end of a long corridor on the first floor, Gu Xi curled up on a rusty iron bed, covered with a thin, washed-out blanket whose edges had been worn away.

Located in a remote suburb, the temperature dropped frighteningly low at night, and the blanket offered her no warmth.

At this moment, Gu Xi clutched her chest, her frosty lips slightly parted as she struggled to breathe heavily.

Cold sweat dripped from her forehead as she felt a piercing pain in her heart, a torment she had endured for two years. She thought she could get used to this deadly pain, but every time her chest hurt, she was tortured to the point of wishing she could cut out her heart to catch a breath.

Her body had never been quite right, and since the weather had turned colder recently, her condition had worsened. At this moment, she felt like a dying fish, wondering if she would ever live to see the day she could leave the mental hospital.

Two years ago, GU Xi had a decent job, good friends, and a happy, ordinary life, but a set-up landed her in the mental hospital against her will.

All the mental patients in Yan Cheng were locked up here in a lifelong cage. Gu Xi didn't know if she would spend the rest of her life here, and she was still so young.

This psychiatric hospital was the largest in Yan City, but with so many patients, there were not enough staff to go around. Typically, one nurse was responsible for one floor.

It was common for the nurses to abuse the patients behind their backs, and if anyone resisted, they would only be beaten even more severely. Gu Xi usually endured silently in order to make her life a little easier.
