The Villainess’S Redemption

Chapter 1: A Twist of Fate

Alexandria jolted awake, her chest heaving as though she had been drowning moments ago. The sharp, unbearable pain that had caused her collapse still lingered in her mind. But the cool, damp sheets beneath her and the scent of rose water slowly brought her back to reality.

She blinked, her gaze darting around the room. The opulence was overwhelming. The high ceiling boasted intricate carvings, the silk drapes framed the windows with an aristocratic touch, and the bed she lay on was large enough to fit five people. She reached out, her fingers brushing against the embroidered fabric of the quilt, its texture unfamiliar yet somehow comforting.

Then, her eyes landed on the mirror.

A gilded mirror rested on the opposite wall, and as she gazed into it, she saw someone else. Auburn curls framed a face far more refined than her own—sharp cheekbones, full lips, and piercing green eyes. She gasped, her hand flying to her face.

“No… no, no, no!” Her voice was softer, more melodic, but panic still laced her words. She stumbled out of bed, her legs weak but determined, moving closer to the mirror. The woman staring back at her was Sarah von Lancaster—the villainess from the ridiculous novel she had been reading before she passed out.

“This has to be a dream,” she whispered, gripping the edge of the vanity table. But the cold wood beneath her palms told her otherwise.

Sarah von Lancaster—the conniving, obsessive count's daughter who ruined her own life by chasing after an indifferent fiancé, tormenting a sweet, innocent female lead, and alienating everyone around her. Alexandria had despised her for wasting her brilliance on petty jealousy.

And now, she was her.

...The Morning After...

Sarah’s household wasted no time reminding her of who she was—or rather, who they believed her to be.

The maids whispered behind her back as they dressed her in layers of silk and lace, muttering about her sudden change in demeanor. Their eyes followed her every move, and she could feel their judgment weighing heavily on her skin.

At breakfast, the tension was palpable.

Her adopted brother, Adrian von Lancaster, sat across from her at the long dining table, his sharp grey eyes watching her every move. His presence was cold, commanding, and unyielding.

“You’ve been unusually quiet, sister,” Adrian said, his tone dripping with skepticism. “Plotting your next scandal, no doubt?”

Alex bit back a retort. “I have no intention of causing trouble,” she said softly, keeping her gaze on her plate.

His laugh was harsh. “That would be a first.”

The humiliation didn’t end there.

The butler announced the arrival of her fiancé, Duke Cedric Ravenswood, who strode into the dining hall with his usual air of superiority. Cedric was every bit as intimidating as she remembered from the novel—raven-black hair, piercing blue eyes, and an expression carved from stone.

“Sarah,” he greeted curtly, his voice devoid of warmth.

“Cedric,” she replied, her tone equally detached.

He raised a brow, clearly surprised by her lack of enthusiasm. “You’ve been uncharacteristically composed. Don’t tell me you’re ill.”

“I’m fine,” she replied, forcing a smile.

Cedric regarded her for a moment longer before turning to Adrian. “I trust you’re keeping her in check. The last thing we need is another one of her tantrums.”

Alex clenched her fists under the table, her nails digging into her palms. This was going to be harder than she thought.

...An Encounter with Elaine...

Later that day, Alex found herself in the garden, seeking solace among the blooming roses. The original female lead, Lady Elaine Marwood, had sent her a letter requesting a meeting.

When Elaine arrived, Alex was struck by her delicate beauty—soft brown curls, wide hazel eyes, and a timid demeanor. She was exactly as the book described her: sweet and unassuming.

“Lady Sarah,” Elaine greeted, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you for agreeing to see me.”

Alex forced a smile. “Of course, Lady Elaine. What can I do for you?”

Elaine hesitated, her hands clasped tightly together. “I wanted to ask… if you could leave Cedric alone.”

Alex’s heart sank. This was the result of Sarah’s past actions—a terrified woman pleading for peace.

“You don’t need to worry,” Alex said gently. “I have no intention of interfering in your life or your relationship with Cedric.”

Elaine’s eyes widened in surprise. “You… don’t?”

“No,” Alex assured her. “I only wish to move forward.”

Elaine studied her for a moment, then offered a tentative smile. “Thank you, Lady Sarah. I hope… I hope we can one day put the past behind us.”

As Elaine walked away, Alex sighed, feeling the weight of Sarah’s sins pressing down on her. She had a long way to go to right these wrongs.

...The Brewing Storm...

But her attempts at redemption only fueled the hatred of those around her.

Adrian accused her of manipulating the family for sympathy, his cold words cutting deeper than he realized. Cedric dismissed her apologies as another ploy to gain his favor, his piercing gaze filled with disdain.

And Elaine, despite her initial gratitude, couldn’t fully trust her, her kind words always laced with caution.

Alex could feel their eyes on her wherever she went, their suspicion palpable. But she refused to give up.

“I’ll prove them wrong,” she whispered to herself one night, staring out the window at the moonlit garden. “Even if it kills me.”

Little did she know, the very hatred that surrounded her would soon give way to something far more dangerous—obsession.
