Love Within Murder

Chains of the past

Just a reenactment of an original television series so those who have seen it please do not report this. Thank you!

Creak... Clink...Creak...Clink...

Chains shift subtly.

[Organ music starts playing]

[Screaming]

"How long are you still going to resist Simon? My hypnosis is still going to take effect in the end."

[Organ music stops]

Simon lifts his head up weakly, and with a defying yet burning look, quickly spits on the man.

Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain as his spittle of belittlement failed to reach its destination.

"You dare try spit on me!?"

A slap reared like a thunderclap, and echoed across the dim gloomy room.

Simon slumps his head yet again, body already riddled with punches and strips of lashes.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA! Powerless to do anything still aren't we Simon?"

The man slowly turned around and let the door close with a final desolate click.

" What's with these ENDLESS games?!! FUCKKK! FUCKKK!" Simon could only scream to himself, as he was left alone to his never ending cycle of mental torture.

{5 years later..}

Hey princess, welcome back!

Jenny had just touched down back in China, and was greeted warmly by her friend, Jason and sister, Sarah, after many years of not returning to the mainland due to her university studies.

"Looks like your manners have improved a lot once you became a policeman."

Jason grinned and cheekily replied: " All for the well being of the people!"

"Oh wait why are we standing in the middle of the path? Lets continue talking after we get into the car."

They entered a white cream coloured Audi sedan, with Jenny sitting at the front.

" Hey Jason. Don't fetch us home yet. I have another place in mind."

"Alright." They laughed and caught up with their missed years of interactions during that car ride.

As they drove along a steep mountainous path, Jason began to doubt if that was the correct address.

" Why are we going so far away? I have to get back to the police team in 40 minutes."

" I have an interview for a part time job there. I wanted to take a look at the environment before I go for that interview."

" Didn't you already find a job? Sarah asked with suspicion.

" It's just a short translation project, don't worry. The time and place should be good. Also, the most important part is the pay, why wouldn't I take it?"

"Up front." Jenny guided Jason.

Jenny scrolled down the window as their car pulled into the beaten dirt track.

They got out of the car and surveyed their surroundings.

Only an old vine covered villa greeted their sight. The house was actually magnificent, if it were seen in the older days.

The house was surrounded with much vegetation, as if the owner had not bothered to take care of it for years, giving the area a fairy taled aura.

"Are you sure it's here?" Jason asked.

" I looked it up on the GPS, so there shouldn't be any mistake."

"Are you sure anyone even lives in this place? It's broad daylight and the curtains are closed. It doesn't look like anyone is here. If you were to work here at night, it would surely scare anyone.

Jenny walked directly next to the house and tried to peep into the window, but failed to see anything due to the thickness of the curtains.

"Sis, sis!" Sarah called her back from the window.

She pointed at the attic window on the roof of the house.

"Look over there! I have goosebumps, Sis!"

Jason called out, " I have something that came up last minute at the station. We should come back another day."

They turned back to the car, totally unaware of the ominous figure standing at that exact window.....

Series of unfortunate cases

"Urghh... Let me go...."

[Straps strain]

[Metal table groans]

The man struggled effortlessly against his leather straps that bound him to the table.

He was scared. He was desperate. His heart was pounding, echoing loudly in contrast to the steely coolness of the metal table.

"P.. Please don't do this. I beg you! I will give you whatever you want....Please! Just dont kill me!"

Alas, his pleas were music to the man's ears, and he sighed with pleasure as he released the rope.

The victim's screams were suddenly silenced with the clang of the knife falling unto the table.

The man's satisfaction was fulfilled as he watched the man's limbs and head fall off the table.

{Police Station}

"Deputy Officer, how long has it been? There has already been 5 cases! Doesn't it seem abnormal?"

Jason said with a sigh. "What's more scary is that these missing people cases are still happening. It doesn't seem like it will stop anytime soon."

{Interview day for Jenny}

"Yes! My interview time has been released! It's scheduled for 10 am later this morning."

"Are you really going back to that ghostly house?" Sarah asked with a tinge of fear.

" Do you want me to tell mom to get you a charm for protection?"

"Aiyah, don't scare me will you!"

"My friend told me that she saw one half a year ago with her very own eyes! It was a male skeleton ghost."

" Male skeleton ghost? You've been reading way too many horror stories. I'm just going for an interview."

"It's true! She said that the male skeleton ghost was on the balcony in broad daylight. He was really pale and had no eyes. It was just pits of black. He was really skinny, just like a hanger!"

++Jason calls++

" When's your interview? I might be able to fetch you there."

" Oh it's today at 10am"

"Hmm later in the day... I have a couple of cases to follow on though. Recently there has been a lot of missing people, mostly underaged. We're suspecting that it is a trafficking organisation behind it."

"Oh it's fine. You just have to do your job. I'll take a cab."

"Please be careful when you go out with Sarah tomorrow. Always be careful and aware of your surroundings. If you think there is someone suspicious following you - "

"Okay, okay. You don't have to evoke your police officer side. Is Sarah and I underaged?"

"I am!" Sarah interjected with a laugh.

"I'm being serious." Jason said. "Before you go for the interview tomorrow, remember to notify me. When you finish, you should also notify me. Did you memorize it?"

"All right, Deputy Officer Li. Your nagging is annoying. Goodbye."

{10am Interview, Ghost house}

Jenny walked tentatively towards the front door of the vine ridden house.

It just a dilapidated villa. Nothing more. Jenny reassured herself, as she whipped out the phone to notify her interviewer of her arrival.

Knocking on the front door a couple of times, ahe finally mustered the courage to open it herself.

Surprisingly, the door was not locked at all.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

The door slammed shut all of a sudden, sending quick shivers down her spine.

Quickly regaining her composure, she went back, attempting to pull open the previously unlocked door.

As expected, the door was locked.

With a sense of dread, her only option would be to venture deeper into the unknown house.

The house was huge, bigger than what it looked like from the exterior.

With pure wooden oak lining almost every inch of the first floor, Jenny could immediately tell that her interviewer was no normal guy. He was a rich guy, in fact.

With not a single light switched on in this house, Jenny had to rely solely on the sunlight streaming in to navigate the house.

The only welcoming part of the house, was a lavishly built living room far to her left. Huge 10 meter shelves flanked each wall, with a chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Almost immediately, she spotted a note on a platter in the middle of the table, which was the only sign that life even existed in the house.

Still being cautious, she carefully put down her bag and sat on the fur couch, making sure that little noise was made as possible.

She awaited her interviewer with a tight sense of alertness, as she was unsure of what lay ahead of her....

Meeting the prof

{Section officer's office}

"Please take a look at these files sir."

"No matter if you look at the cases individually or from their geographical regions or where they went missing, I still feel that there is a connection between all the cases." Jason reported.

"We just have to investigate it till we reach a breaking point."

"But there is still not enough evidence for an official search." The section officer replied. "But we should still continue keeping an eye on it."

{Ghost villa}

Jenny decided that sitting on the couch was not going to get her anywhere.

She stood up and headed to the huge rows of books.

Just when she picked an interesting book that had caught her eye,the grandfather's clock struck 10 with a deafening clang, giving her a huge fright.

She dropped the book when she was startled, and just when she was about to pick it back up, a well dressed man appeared at the top of the stairwell

"Good morning, I am here to meet Professor Bo regarding the interview for the translation job." Jenny informed.

The man didn't say anything, and strolled into the room with unusual coolness, as if the spookiness of the house was not enough.

She quickly put back the book she took, just as he said, "Hello, I am Professor Bo. Nice to meet you"

"What would you like to drink? Coffee, tea or red wine?"

"Tea is fine."

Professor Bo asked, " I've heard from Professor Zhang at your university, that you are one of his most outstanding students. This time, I am looking for a translator that can translate results into Chinese. Of course, since this is an interview, we can't avoid asking questions."

"Here are some research results for you to translate as a trial."

Professor Bo handed over a black file.

As she opened it up, a few photos caught her eye. There were various people that were mauled and disfigured so badly that their facial features were unrecognisable.

"Sorry. I forgot to take out the accompanying pictures that came with it. The victims of this murder autopsy were murdered and sexually abused.

Jenny stifled her feelings of disgust, and replied, "Yes, their hands and feet were tied together. Is there a dictionary for the translation?"

Professor Bo's eyes drifted up towards the fifth shelf.

Jenny finished the translation in a rather short time, under the watchful eyes of Professor Bo.

As she handed over her translation to Professor Bo, Jason sent a text over to her.

"Have you finished the interview", the reply read.

Quickly, she replied and put her phone back onto the table.

Professor Bo, being the constantly observant one, asked, " Your boyfriend?"

Jenny could only dodge the question with an awkward smile.

" It's going to be the job hunting season soon. Jenny, have you found a job yet?"

"Yes i have."

Just as their conversation went on, another mysterious figure appeared on the stairwell, yet chose to be concealed within the shadows.

"By the way Jenny, my job is also just a part time interest for me. Care to guess what my real job is?"

"At firsthand, I would feel that you are a surgeon."

"Am I not one?"

Jenny continued, "As you have a strong alcoholic smell and have washed your hands many times during this interview itself, thus indicates your sense of cleanliness. Also, all the pictures that came with the autopsy translation further justified your position. That is why many people would think you are a surgeon."

"However, when you were making the tea just now, you spilled some tea leaves, which showed you do not have steady hands. Also, you made two kinds of tea, yet switched the teapot lids by accident. This showed you are not detailed."

Professor Bo nodded his approval at her analytical skills.

Jenny finished off by saying, "Through the conversation, you were very open minded, thus you should have a job that requires creativity. Also, you have fast typing hands, and thus your job should be more of a computer software developer rather than a surgeon."

Professor Bo clapped after her explanation, and said "You surprise me. I didn't think you would actually guess it right. Okay, I have decided to hire you as the translator."

Jenny then replied with a smile, "Thank you, but shouldn't you ask the real Professor Bo for his own opinion?"

"How did you know that I'm not the real Professor?"

Jenny pointed to an open magazine behind him and replied cheekily, "Because the picture of the real Professor Bo is out in the open!"

Really bamboozled, 'Professor Bo' picked up the magazine.

Up in the level above, the man hidden in the shadows had seen enough. He retreated back to the third level of the house.

"All right. Jenny, let me introduce myself again. My name is Fu Ziyu. You can call me Mr Fu. I work for Professor Bo."

" Nice to meet you too Mr Fu."

Outside the villa, Jason was already waiting beside his car, for Jenny to exit the house.

"Didn't you say you were too busy with work?"

"We've hit a plateau and our team leader told us not to get attached to it." "How was the interview?"

"Well, you could say I got the job!"

With that, the car pulled away from the villa.
