The warm sunlight filtered through the trees as Kai stood at the edge of Route 1, his heart pounding with excitement. Today was the day. He had just received his first Pokémon from Professor Oak—a Charmander. The little fire-type stood beside him, tail flame flickering with energy.
"Alright, buddy," Kai said, crouching down to meet Charmander’s gaze. "Are you ready to start our journey?"
"Char!" the Pokémon chirped enthusiastically.
Kai adjusted his backpack and took his first steps onto the dirt path leading away from Pallet Town. His dream was to become a Pokémon Master, and that journey started now.
The path ahead was lined with tall grass, rustling slightly in the gentle breeze. He knew that wild Pokémon lurked within, waiting for unsuspecting trainers. His fingers tightened around his Poké Ball, ready for his first battle.
As he walked, the grass suddenly stirred more violently. His heart skipped a beat as a small, brown-feathered Pokémon shot into the air with a sharp cry.
"A Pidgey!" Kai exclaimed, excitement bubbling in his chest. "Alright, Charmander, let’s do this!"
Charmander leaped forward, eyes gleaming with determination.
"Use Scratch!" Kai commanded.
Charmander rushed forward, its small claws flashing as it swiped at Pidgey. The attack landed, causing the bird Pokémon to squawk in surprise and flap its wings furiously.
Pidgey retaliated with a Gust attack, sending a small whirlwind of dust and leaves toward Charmander. The little fire-type staggered slightly but quickly regained its footing.
"You’re tough, buddy," Kai said with a grin. "Now, let’s finish this! Use Ember!"
Charmander took a deep breath, its tail flame flaring as it unleashed small embers from its mouth. The fiery attack struck Pidgey directly, making the bird Pokémon flutter weakly.
"This is it!" Kai reached for a Poké Ball, his pulse racing. He took aim and threw the ball at Pidgey. The ball struck the weakened Pokémon, pulling it inside with a flash of red light.
Kai and Charmander watched as the Poké Ball wiggled on the ground. Once. Twice. Three times…

"Yes! We did it!" Kai cheered, running forward to pick up the Poké Ball. He held it up proudly, looking at Charmander. "Our first catch!"
Charmander hopped up and down, its tail flame flickering happily. Kai felt a surge of pride—his journey as a Pokémon Trainer had truly begun.
Before he could celebrate further, a voice interrupted.
"Not bad for a beginner," someone said.
Kai turned to see a boy leaning against a tree, arms crossed. He had spiky brown hair and a confident smirk.
"But catching a Pidgey doesn’t make you a real trainer," the boy continued.
Kai narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?"
"The name’s Ken," the boy said, pulling a Poké Ball from his belt. "And I’m about to show you what a real battle looks like."
Kai clenched his fist. He had just caught his first Pokémon—was he really ready for a battle already? He glanced at Charmander, who stood firmly by his side, eyes locked on Ken’s Poké Ball.
Kai took a deep breath. "Alright, Ken. Let’s battle!"
Ken grinned and tossed his Poké Ball. "Go, Squirtle!"
A small, blue turtle-like Pokémon appeared, standing confidently with its arms crossed.
Kai swallowed. A water-type against his Charmander? This was going to be tough.
But as Charmander stepped forward, its tail flame burning brightly, Kai knew one thing for sure—this was just the beginning. And he was ready for whatever came next.
