(someone was walking down the street, earbuds in, lost in thought. He accidentally bumps into someone, spilling coffee on the stranger's jacket.)
Ethan
Panicked)
Oh! I’m so sorry! I didn’t—
lucas
(laughing)
It’s fine. Just an excuse to buy a new jacket, I guess.
Ethan looks up and meets Lucas’s eyes. Time seems to slow. Their eyes lock — Lucas smiles, and Ethan feels his heart race.
Ethan
I… uh… I’ll buy you a new one
lucas
Or you could just buy me coffee sometime.
lucas
Give me your number. Let’s call it even.
Ethan
Ethan hesitates, then smiles and types his number.
Ethan
I... uh...I go then"smiling "
( after 3 months they meet and talk until they fall inlove to each other)
Ethan and Lucas sit at a corner table, talking and laughing
lucas
So… you’ve been single for how long?
Ethan
Forever. Guess I was waiting for you." and wink at lucas"
Ethan
I think I really like you.
lucas
I think I really like you too.
They sit in silence, staring at each other. The world around them fades.
( weeks later. at lucas apartment)
Ethan
… I didn’t think people would care so much.
lucas
They shouldn’t. But they do.
lucas
It’s not. But it’s dangerous now. People are talking. My family... they
Ethan
(Tears forming)
What are you saying?
lucas
We can’t keep doing this.
lucas
I love you, but I can’t lose everything.
(Lucas takes Ethan’s hand and presses it to his lips.)
(Lucas turns and walks toward the door. Ethan’s breath hitches as tears fall down his face.)
(Ethan stands at the same street corner where they first met. Lucas walks by, their eyes meet for a brief moment. Lucas smiles faintly, but keeps walking.)
Ethan
(Ethan watches him disappear into the crowd, holding back tears.)
