Chapter 1: A Historian’s Passion

The sun hung low over the ruins, casting golden hues over the moss-covered temple walls. A warm breeze rustled through the trees as Nandini Sharma dusted off a centuries-old inscription, her fingers tracing the delicate Sanskrit carvings with reverence.

Her heart pounded with excitement. "This could be from the 9th century," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

As a historian and archaeologist, Nandini had always dreamed of discovering untouched relics of India’s past. She had spent years studying lost dynasties, but something about this particular temple felt different. The air around her was thick with strange, electric energy as if the past itself was whispering to her.

"Dr. Nandini, we should wrap up for the day," called out Ravi, her assistant, adjusting his backpack.

"Five more minutes," she pleaded, eyes fixed on the ground. A glimmer of gold peeked through the dirt near the temple steps.

Curious, she knelt down and carefully brushed away the soil. Slowly, a small golden pendant emerged, its surface inscribed with a royal crest she vaguely recognized. The craftsmanship was intricate, unlike anything she had seen before.

Her fingers tingled as she picked it up. The metal was warm, almost as if it were alive.

"Nandini?" Ravi’s voice was distant now. The world around her felt… different. The air grew heavier, charged with an unseen force. The moment she tightened her grip around the pendant, the sky above darkened unnaturally.

A powerful gust of wind tore through the ruins, scattering loose papers and dust. A deep hum vibrated through the ground beneath her feet.

Then, before she could react—a blinding light erupted around her.

The world spun.

The temple, the ruins, Ravi—all of it disappeared.

She felt herself being pulled into a swirling vortex, weightless, as though she were floating between time itself. Her body tingled with an unfamiliar energy.

"What is happening?" she thought frantically.

She wanted to scream, but her voice was lost in the storm of light surrounding her. The wind roared in her ears, and suddenly—

Silence.

The light vanished. The air was still.

Then—a hard impact.

Nandini crashed onto the ground, her body trembling from the force of the fall. A sharp ache shot through her limbs as she gasped for breath. Grass. She was lying on soft grass, damp with morning dew.

Slowly, she opened her eyes. The sight before her made her heart stop.

She was no longer in the ruined temple. No broken walls. No remnants of a lost civilization.

Instead, she was surrounded by a vast, untouched forest, with towering trees swaying gently in the breeze. The sky above was clear and blue, unlike the polluted haze she was used to. The distant chirping of birds and rustling of leaves filled the silence.

Something was terribly, terribly wrong.

Nandini sat up, rubbing her aching arms. She still clutched the golden pendant, its warmth comforting in her palm.

"Where am I?"

She turned, hoping to find some clue—perhaps a road, a familiar landmark, anything. But there was nothing modern in sight. No power lines. No buildings. No sign of the present world.

Her heart pounded.

She wasn’t just lost.

She had travelled through time.

A rustling noise made her freeze. Footsteps—heavy and approaching fast.

She turned swiftly, her breath catching in her throat.

Emerging from the trees was a group of armed soldiers on horseback.

They were clad in traditional armour, their weapons gleaming under the sun. The man at the front—a tall warrior with piercing eyes—fixed his gaze on her and raised his sword.

“You there!” he commanded in fluent Sanskrit. “Who are you?”

Nandini’s breath hitched. Sanskrit? No one spoke it so naturally anymore. Yet, somehow, she understood every word as if she had spoken it all her life.

The soldiers halted, watching her with suspicion.

The leader’s voice was sharp. “Are you a spy?”

Her mind raced. She was a modern woman in ancient India.

And now, she was at the mercy of a king she had yet to meet.

Chapter 2: A Mysterious Portal

The forest was eerily silent, broken only by the rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. Nandini’s heart pounded as she stared at the group of armed soldiers in front of her.

The man leading them—a tall warrior with a chiselled jaw and piercing black eyes—sat atop a magnificent black stallion. His sword was drawn, the blade glinting under the sun.

“You there!” he repeated, his voice sharp. “Who are you?”

Nandini swallowed hard, her mind racing. She had no idea how to explain herself. How could she tell them she was from the future?

The soldiers whispered among themselves, their eyes scanning her modern clothes.

"Her attire is strange," one of them muttered. "No woman dresses like this!"

"She could be a spy from a foreign land," another said.

The warrior’s grip tightened on his sword. “Speak!”

Nandini took a deep breath. She had to say something—fast.

“I… I am a traveller,” she said, carefully choosing her words. “I got lost in the forest.”

The soldiers exchanged doubtful glances. The leader studied her, his brows furrowed.

"You are lying. Your appearance is unlike anything we have seen," he said coldly. His gaze flickered to the golden pendant clutched in her palm. His expression changed for a brief second, but he quickly masked it.

He turned to his men. “Bind her hands. We will take her to the king.”

Panic surged through Nandini. The king? She had no idea who ruled this land or what kind of man he was. Would he see her as an enemy? A threat?

"Wait!" she protested as two soldiers grabbed her arms and tied them behind her back. The rough rope burned against her skin, but she knew struggling would only make things worse.

She was lifted onto a horse behind one of the soldiers, her heartbeat erratic.

The leader turned his horse around. "We ride to the palace!"

With that, the group galloped through the dense forest.

A World from the Past

As they rode, Nandini took in her surroundings, her historian’s mind racing.

The landscape was untouched—pristine rivers, sprawling fields, and thick jungles stretched as far as the eye could see. She realized with awe that she was seeing ancient India in its full glory.

No modern roads. No tall buildings. No honking cars.

This was history—alive and breathing.

She had studied ancient Indian civilizations, but nothing could have prepared her for experiencing it firsthand.

The kingdom walls soon appeared in the distance—massive stone fortifications surrounding a grand city. As they rode through the main gates, Nandini's eyes widened in astonishment.

The streets were bustling with people. Merchants sold silk and spices, women in traditional sarees carried clay pots, and soldiers patrolled the roads. The air smelled of fresh flowers and burning incense.

It was like stepping into a history book.

But she had little time to marvel. The soldiers led her through the grand palace gates, where towering stone pillars and intricate carvings adorned the halls.

At last, they stopped before a massive throne room.

The leader dismounted and pulled her down roughly. “You will speak only when asked,” he warned.

Nandini took a deep breath.

She was about to meet the king of this era.

Her fate now rested in his hands.
