Location- The Coastal Plains region is located along the Texas Coast between the Sabine River and Corpus Christi. The Coastal Plains area is bounded on the northeast by the Pine Woods Belt, inland by the Post Oak Belt and in the southwest by the South Texas Plain.

Climate- The Coastal Plains region is the wettest of the four regions. It gets the most rainfall and gets over 45 inches of rain , but just like all the other regions, it is still prone to drought. The summers are hot and humid with lots of rain. The winters are mild with some cold and little rain. During the summer this region is a hot spot for hurricanes. Since Texas is connected to the Gulf of Mexico, hurricanes have always been an issue. The Coastal Plains region gets hit by plenty of hurricanes. Hurricanes can develop in the Gulf of Mexico and hit the Coastal Plains during Hurricane Season which is June through November.

Landforms- The Coastal Plains has lots of landforms like the Balcones Fault, the Rio Grande River, the Balcones Escarpment, and the Colorado River. Since the Coastal Plains are near the gulf, it also has wet marshes, and beaches. Plains and forests also can be found in this immense region. The landscape of the Coastal Plain is relatively flat, with some rolling hills occurring closer to the sandhills region. Soils consist of muds, silts, sands, sedimentary rocks and ancient marine deposits. Coastal Plains have barrier islands along the coast, salt grass marshes surrounding its bays, patches of tallgrass prairies, oak mottes scattered along the coast, and tall woodlands in the river bottomlands.

Vegetation-The Coastal Plains is mostly prairie along the Gulf Coast. Live oak tends to be a major component of the region, especially north of the Nueces River and nearer the Gulf Coast. Rice is a major crop, grown under irrigation from wells and rivers. Cotton, grain, sorghum, and truck crops also are grown. The Rio Grande Valley is known for its Ruby Red Grapefruit and other citrus products such as lemons and limes. Pine trees, palm trees, and grasslands are also a part of the Coastal Plains.

Economic Resources- The Gulf Coastal Plains prosper in farming, ranching, natural gas, cattle, lumber, medical, grapefruit, beaches, fishing, oil, and petrochemicals, as well as ports, shipping, and transportation. The Post Oak Belt thrives in farming, livestock, natural energy resources, and manufacturing industries.

Cities- Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi are the major cities in the Coastal Plains. Dallas is the third largest city in Texas after San Antonio and Houston. It is the ninth most populous city in the U.S.A. San Antonio, is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second largest city in both Texas and the Southern United States. Houston is the largest city in Texas and most populous city in Texas, fourth most populous city in the United States, most populous city in the Southern United States, as well as the sixth most populous in North America. In Houston you will find Houston Medical Center. The medical industry is an important part of Houston. Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas, as well as the largest city of Travis County. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States, the fourth largest city in Texas, and the second-most-populous state capital city. The capitol building of Texas is located in Austin. Beaumont is a city in Jefferson County. It is the 33rd largest city in Texas. Corpus Christi is the 8th largest city in Texas.
