Fire. Darkness. These are the only things I know. Fire surrounded me, melting me. Licking me with its hot ashes. Darkness, it’s where I live. For my entire life. All I have known was darkness. Then. He appeared. Out of the darkness he came to me. Comforted me. He adopted me when no one else did. For once, I can see the world, the big wide world in all its’ color. I could finally see the light. He who adopted me looked rough around the edges but his aura was unmatched. This was a new start. His name?

It was Aizawa Shota.

“MOM!” I shout as I sit upright in my bed.

She left me. She left me in the dark. I sit there and start crying. Then I decide to lay down, it was more comfortable. Then I hear my door open ever so slightly. I bury myself in my blankets, sobbing. “Sweetie are you ok?” hearing those words, I jolt upright. It was Shota followed by Hizashi, who was right behind him.

I sniffle. They cautiously approach me and my bed. Then, they finally sit down on my bed. Both Shota and Hizashi look at me with concerned eyes. “Dad… Papa, why did mom leave me?” I ask, still crying but softer now. “Is it because I don’t look like her, or is it because I don’t have a quirk?” I look at them teary-eyed, searching for an answer.

Yet, no one answered. They didn’t want to answer my question.

They watch me, their eyes full of sadness. “You know what. I don’t need a quirk if it means that I get to stay here with you two. Thank you, I’m so thankful.” I say as I wrap my arms around them. “Thank you for taking me in. Thank you!” I say sobbing as my arms are wrapped around them, they hug me with their big warm arms.

“Awwww pumpkin, come here, we’ll always be here for you,” Hizashi said while crying. “Even if you don’t want us around. Right, Shota?” Hizashi said, crying and then turning to his husband.

Reluctantly, he nodded in agreement. Though we all know he really cared, he just didn’t quite know how to show it.

That night, we all slept together. Surrounded by people who genuinely love me. But I wish I could protect them. I need to get stronger, not for me but for the people I love. That night…it changed my life. It was the year I turned four. I found out I had no quirk. Then, mom left me. But then Shota adopted me. That night, people came to me. They finally heard me. That night, miracles happened.
