Emily sat on the park bench, her heart fluttering as she typed on her phone.
Emily
“Hey, Ryan! Want to grab coffee later?”
She pressed send, biting her lip nervously.
Moments later, her phone buzzed.
Ryan
“Sure! Sounds good! Just as friends, right?”
He replied, punctuating it with a smiley face.
Emily sighed, her heart dropping.
Emily
“Yeah… just friends,”
She muttered to herself, staring at the ground. Why can’t he see how much I care?
Ryan leaned against the tree, scrolling through their chat.
Ryan
“Emily makes me laugh,”
He said aloud, grinning.
He hesitated before typing back
Emily
“Glad to hear! I always have fun with you.”
As he hit send, he thought, Why can’t I just tell her?
He tossed a pebble into the pond, watching the ripples.
Ryan
“What if I misread everything?”
He whispered, feeling a pang of longing
