I walked through the crowd as I searched for
my ever annoying blonde best friend, Mila.
It wasn't that hard. She always somehow
managed to find me first. She waved at me with her stupid annoying grin while
sitting on a couch along with the rest of our friends.
I rolled my eyes as I walked towards her,
bumping a lot of sweaty bodies along the way and almost spilling their drinks.
However I'd rather clean my best friend’s vomit than being lusted by these
horny sweaty college boys. I feel like they intentionally bumped into me just
so they could have my attention. Ugh.
As I reached to the couch, my best friend
immediately pulled me to her side with a stupid smile of excitement on her
face.
"Damn! I knew the dress would look good
on you!" She exclaimed and I just rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
She giggled. "I'm glad you're able to
make it. I thought your gig would hold you up again."
"You know it's not really the gig. The
guys just keep asking me to stay. I told them that if I don't make it tonight,
you'll have my head for breakfast tomorrow." She laughed and then suddenly
frowned.
"You're damn right." Her face was
serious and scary. I just shook my head in response.
"Heyyy, my favorite girlfriend is
here." In came my other best friend. He sat between me and Mila, his arm
went around m shoulders as he embraced me in one of his famous hugs and kissed
my forehead like he usually does.
"Have you decided for the upcoming
camping?" I arched my eyebrow.
"Dude, that's three weeks from now. Can
we just enjoy your party for now?"
He frowned. "Ugh, hello? Do I need to
remind you that I'm always here to remind you that you always forget our trips
and you just remember it a day or few days before the said date? And then you
don't even bother to ask your parents' permission which makes Mila and me a
huge burnt toast." Mila nodded like a little child agreeing with what Remi
had said.
"She's right, babe. We can't afford to
face your parents' wrath again. They're fucking scary." She said as she
shook her head while raising her hands in surrender.
"Point taken." I agreed. "I'll
ask my parents tomorrow. You could remind me again, Rems." I bumped his
shoulder playfully with a teasing grin.
"Of course, what'll you do without me,
babe?"
I laughed. "I don't know. Maybe free from
your stupid face." Mila and I laughed as he scowled at us.
"You're evil. I can't even believe I held
this party just so I could save your sorry ***." He shook his head with
amusement.
Did I mention that whenever I have a gig, Remi
holds parties just so he could cover me from my parents on finding out what I
actually do in certain events? To be honest, I'm actually a vocalist in a band
who has become pretty popular recently.
Why exactly am I hiding this exciting part of
my life?
My parents never supported me on this. In fact,
they hated the thought of me having a talent in music. They said it was
something that would sway me from the path they forged for me.
I am an heiress. And they want me to stay that
way.
"I know. That's why you're my number one,
Rems." I gave him my full blown smile showing how happy and thankful I am
that he's my best friend.
"Ah, excuse me." Mila protested
sassily. "I'm the original number one here. You're just second number one.
A replacement. My substitute." As she scowled at him.
And now the bickering begins.
"You're just jealous because Kai finally
said it."
"Well, she tells me that every time.
Pity, you just heard it." She spat.
"Kyree!" They called in unison. They
were looking at me with their eyes saying to end this argument by telling who's
who.
I rolled my eyes.
"I'm going to get a drink." I stood
from the couch.
"Hey, I'm going with you." Mila
hollered.
"I'm going to stick with the guys. Catch
you two later?" We nodded as he hugged both of us together around his
arms.
Mila and I went to the minibar they made and
asked for our drinks. She got vodka cranberry for us.
"How was your gig tonight?" She
asked as she drank her vodka.
"The usual." I shrugged. "I had
to hurry back though. I don't want a certain someone having my head on her
plate." She rolled her eyes as I laughed.
"You have every obligation to come to the
parties he hosts. I mean it is for you. Every damn time." She added the
last part with a roll of her eyes and shook her head.
I smiled as I felt thankful to the both of
them. The frat brothers didn't need to know that their leader is throwing
parties just for me. It's our secret. It's our cover.
"I know. I wish there could be another
way to do this." I looked down to my glass feeling disappointed.
"Well I wish your parents wouldn't have
to be assholes and let you live your life the way you want to." She
crossed her arms with a frown, letting herself lean against the counter.
"You're pure talent, Kai. You never failed to let the crowd go wild. Not
every singer or artist can do that. It's a shame that your family doesn't even
know that big part of you. And I'm so angry about it."
I sighed with a smile. As long as these two
support and love me, I feel like it's enough. They're my true family.
"Anyways, you should go have fun
tonight." My eyebrows creased as I stared at her inquisitively.
"Me? Not us?"
"Yes." She grinned with conviction.
"Every party you just sit down and watch us have fun. I didn't let you
wear every dress I bought for you just so you could sit down."
"Hey, you know I'm exhausted from our
performance and I enjoy watching you guys get wasted and feel stupid the next
day." I teased.
"Whatever. I'm not gonna fall for your
excuses. We're gonna find you a guy tonight." I rolled my eyes as I took a
drink of my vodka. How many times did we actually roll our eyes tonight?
"Ugh. I hate your lack of enthusiasm. How
about this? We're going to have a bet."
"A bet?" I raised my eyebrow as I
stared at her bemused.
"Yes. I'm going to find a guy for you and
you're going to go to him, talk to him, dance with him, just whatever it is
that doesn't get your butt attach on a couch.” I laughed at her weirdness.
“He's going to be your company for tonight."
"What if I don't want to?" I asked
challengingly, a teasing grin appeared on my face.
"You automatically give me one thousand
bucks." She shrugged.
I laughed. "What makes you think I'll
actually do it?"
She then pointed her painted index finger to
me. "Because babe, you have no choice. Did you forget when Remi is not
holding any party, you go to my house to 'sleepover'?" While air quoting
the word sleepover.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "You're
evil."
She crossed her arms and said, "No, I
just don't stop until I get what I want. There's a difference." She shrugged.
I smacked her arm while she reacted an ouch.
"If I win, you give me that two thousand bucks for being spoiled and I get
to 'sleepover' at your house anytime." Making sure to emphasize the said
word.
She grinned at me almost mischievously.
"Deal."
She grinned at me almost mischievously.
"Deal."
Well that's just shady.
She then started searching to the crowd in
interest while I stood beside her with a pout and an ugly frown.
Stupid best friend.
"Ah!" She yelled, acted as if she finally
found her lab rat. I frowned even more as I glared at her at the same time.
"This one... this one, he's pretty
popular." She put her hands on my shoulders and continued. "You
should know him. I mean the guy is a heartthrob. The type who's nice like the
boy next door who helps a grandma cross the road." I eyed her in
disbelief. Mila is such a weirdo. Can't help but smile about it though.
"I don't know anyone of the sort. I don't
know anyone who's good. Everyone is bad. Like for example... you." I narrowed
my eyes at her. She smacked me back in my arm. I winced at the impact and the
pain it brought.
"Stop making me love you even more."
She warned sarcastically. She nodded her head to a certain direction. I
followed her line of sight with a raised brow.
There's too many people. Too many guys to know
who she meant so I acted like I was searching, even though I wasn’t.
"Keelan... do you know him?" She
smirked proudly.
I eyed the guy who was holding a red cup. He
was talking to someone, not a girl. Mila was right. He really looked like a
nice guy. He has light brown hair, almost blonde when hit with light. It was a
bit long but was swept back not to cover his eyes. I don't know the color of
his eyes but it appeared to be light. He was wearing a white t-shirt. It
snugged his body so perfectly, his biceps bulged and from the looks of it, he
damn well has abs hiding underneath that shirt. He dressed simple but he looked
so hot.
Damn. Mila is so right. I almost bit my lip at
the sight but I’m not gonna give her the satisfaction.
My sight shifted back to my weird best friend.
"You must have forgotten that I maintain
a certain amount of distance from other students fearing that I'd be found out.
I'm only hanging out with you and Remi and the others. Remember?"
"Ugh." She then rolled her eyes.
"You're so helpless, Kai." She then faced me with determination.
"I choose him to be your date tonight. At least with him, I won't be
worried. I don't want a so-called bad boy with you. I mean bad guys are hot and
sexy but I don't want them with you. You're already living a dangerous
life." She laughed as she said the end of her little speech.
"Whatever." I mumbled as I felt a
bit embarrassed and guilty from what she said.
I mean it is true. Living a double life is
extremely difficult. You're in constant watch whether someone's going to blow
your cover and report it to your asshole of a parents.
I sighed. "You owe me two thousand
dollars for this." I huffed as I walked towards the guy.
"That is if you'll win, baby!" She
shouted as I continued my way through the crowd.
I raised my head to watch him as I eased my
way through the crowd. It wasn't even that long, a girl approached them with a
flirtatious smile.
I stopped and turned to look at Mila. Nodding
at her and signaling her that someone was already there before me.
She smirked at me mischievously. She swiped
her palm with her other hand like it had invisible money flying as she swiped
it. I rolled my eyes. Okay. Challenge accepted.
No matter how rich we are, still... the things
I could buy with a thousand bucks. Better yet, two thousand. I'm going to buy
that guitar I'm eyeing on. Can't even buy it with my credit card or else I'd be
screwed if they found out.
I greeted my target with a grin as I reached
in front of him. A grin? Really? I feel like I'm a naive little teenager. I
shook away my thoughts and focused on my mission.
"Hi." I stopped as I realized I was
rocking my body back and forth childishly.
Keelan, my target, smiled at me softly but the
confusion on his face was quite noticeable. I ignored the girl beside him who
wasn't discreet with her scowl. The guy he was talking with earlier was long
gone.
"Can I help you?" The girl asked in
his stead.
I raised a brow at her. I again ignored her.
Sometimes I question the universe how it allows girls like her to torment other
people. Yes, the universe. She could be living in mars and she would still
torment aliens.
"I need your help."
Keelan raised his brow with clear amusement.
He looked at the girl beside him and smiled at her. "Talk to you
later?"
The girl scowled even more and walked away
without any word. But the guy in front of me just smiled. I find him weird
because I've never really seen anyone this nice... this clean. It felt like
whatever everyone's talking about- that he's nice, charming and a gentleman,
it's all true. I guess I’m kinda intrigued with that cause I’m always
surrounded by Mila’s and Remi’s evilness.
His smile never wore off. I shook my train of
thoughts as he waited for me to talk. There was a glint of amusement in his
eyes as he noticed me studying him.
"How can I help you?" He finally
asked as it took time for me to speak.
"Oh, right. My friend and I had a bet.
She finds someone for me to hang out with and if I fail I give her one thousand
dollars."
I know. I just told him the truth. I figured
it was much more effective this way rather than giving him some sweet talk.
Honestly, I sucked at sweet talks and even the flowery ones.
He smirked. "So I figure that guy is
me." I nodded. "What if you win?"
"She gives me two thousand." He
chuckled.
****. He sounded heavenly. What the hell.
"You're dealing good business." He
joked and showed me a genuine smile. It was simply impossible not to fall.
"You're having fun and then you get to have money along with it." He
chuckled.
I smiled at him. He's everything, I tell you.
Everything.
"You wanna dance?"
"Does that mean you're okay to hang out
with me?" I beamed.
"As long as you're going to treat me on
our date next time." He moved from his spot but stopped when he saw I
wasn't moving.
"A date? Next time?" My eyes wide as
I asked him in awe.
"Yes. I'm making sure you win this bet.
And I'm going to ask for a reward and I want a date."
"Yes. I'm making sure you win this bet.
And I'm going to ask for a reward and I want a date."
His smile never wore off. He was so stunning
and it makes me immovable. ****, am I crushing on him? I really can’t stop
admiring him like some star struck fool.
I smiled as I felt excitement and giddy.
"Okay." I looked down shyly.
He took my hand and dragged me towards the makeshift
dance floor. The gesture took me by surprise but I reveled at the warmth his callous
hand was giving me.
"Where's your friend?"
I froze as I almost forgot about my
mischievous best friend.
I started to search for her. She was no longer
standing at the bar or anywhere from my sight. Ugh. She obviously ditched me.
How could I prove to her that I'm winning this when she's not even looking?
"She ditched me." I grumbled.
We stopped walking. He looked at me with
amusement. I know what he was thinking. I was now feeling uncomfortable now
that Mila was out of my sight. I think her head will be on my platter at
tomorrow’s breakfast.
"I'm not lying. I swear. I'm going to
kill that girl." I said exasperated, muttering the last part lowly so he
wouldn't hear.
"Okay." He smiled with
understanding. "Do you still wanna dance?" I eyed him almost in
disbelief. I thought he was going to back out and leave me but he didn’t. I
guess there was no surprise there considering he was actually a nice guy.
I looked at the crowd wearily. People dancing
like they're going to have intercourse in the middle of the dance floor. There
was sweat and booze all mixed together. I definitely don't wanna go there.
"Can we go outside instead?" He
nodded without question.
"I wasn't lying, you know. I didn't come
to you so I could have you all to myself." I said as we reached outside.
I'm suddenly feeling embarrassed of the situation. Mila probably didn't expect
that I would tell him the truth but I'm still going to kill her.
He chuckled. "It's fine." His head
turned up, looking at the moon shining so brightly. I followed his action,
admiring the view. The night was not as cold as I thought it would be. The
night breeze made my skirt and hair wave slightly.
"A lot of girls are probably throwing
themselves at you. Like the one who just walked away. I feel sorry for her but
I can't lose my money. And not when I can have twice the amount." I
rambled on.
He burst out laughing. His attention then shifted
to me. His laugh made him show his perfect white teeth. Is that a dimple? Damn.
"Really now?"
I tilted my head to the side studying him with
his handsome laugh and of course his Adonis face- although he was more in the
boyish side. Not to mention the Greek bod his hiding underneath that outfit. He
really was so attractive. I can't seem to stop staring and admiring him. If my
life wasn't so complicated, I would have easily fallen for him. Deep inside,
I’m still that typical girl. I just don’t have time to entertain this feelings.
"Do you still wanna dance?" I asked
after pondering. His laugh toned down now and he looked at me with his emerald
green eyes. It sparkled with amusement and my reflection.
"I thought you don't like to join the
crowd or did I assume wrong?" His head tilted to the side as he asked. A small
smile adorned his face. Cute.
I smiled. "No, you're right. I don't
think I can stomach the thought of spending more time there." Honestly,
years of singing in front of a crowd like that would seem that I'm used to it
by now but I'm not. I could never get used to it. But parties and concerts are
different. I love the fact that in concerts, the crowd gather around to really
enjoy music.
"Let's dance here." I suggested. We
were just meters away from the frat house- well, mansion as Remi likes to put
it, but there weren't many people here in their little garden. Everyone was
inside getting wasted and probably high and satiated.
He raised an eyebrow inquisitively. "I
don’t think the music will reach here. It’s pretty much muffled." He said
with a shrug.
I grinned at him. A plan formed in my head.
The music inside was slow. It was R&B. I opted for something different,
something slow. Something not sexual. A certain song crossed my mind and it
felt like it suited the night.
I reached for his hand and he took it with
confusion and fascination. I put his hands on my waist and mine on his
shoulder. His eyes continued to have sparks of amusement as he carries along
with me.
I started to sway. He followed.
I imagined the beat, the rhythm of the music
humming inside my head. I closed my eyes as I feel the breeze, the moon
blessing us with her light, the warmth he’s giving me, my cold hands brushing
against his neck.
I then started to sing.
It's late in the evening
She's wondering what clothes to wear~
His hands tightened around my waist as he
heard my voice. He pulled me closer to him than ever before. I almost smile at
his action.
She puts on her make-up and brushes her long
blonde hair
And then she asks me, do I look all right?
And I say, yes, you look wonderful tonight~
I opened my eyes only to see his eyes swirling
with emotions. His face was now serious. It was like he was studying me for
something. The smile, the amusement, it was all gone as he stared at me like he
was sucked by my soul. And he knew it and he wanted to be pulled in the vortex
of my soul.
We go to a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with
me
And then she asks me, do you feel all right?
And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful
tonight"~
And then he kissed me.
